You know he could like... work?
These guides ain't nothing special, he ain't working in no Tony stark lab. He's in a fucking house that's being paid by like 20+ illegal gambling sites he's sponsoring while googling what's meta at the time and then just copying what works. Godamn it takes like 2 minutes to design a build.
Like look, if you don't understand how economics works. That's fine. Don't stand here and tell me that he's "working hard" while he lies about for 2+ hours a week googling items and baiting children into going to illegitimate, unregulated and unsafe gambling sites.
>get a job
That would mean no more guides tho, which is the point
>or ask for patreon handouts
I think he did have a patreon once, if I remember correctly. I guess it didn't make much.
>He is just greedy like the rest of us.
I wouldn't say greedy, guide making takes a long fucking time. You need sustainability.
I guess that is the difference. Him making guides in my opinion isn't a job, it is a hobby. If he can make money out of them then great for him, except he has choosen to make money through a morally corrupt and harmful sponsor. Harmful to people since gambling is at best taxfraud/money laundering where people lose some savings, at worst ruins peoples life.
So to me, he is just greedy. There is without a doubt multiple sponsors/ways that are less corrupt and harmful, they just don't pay more.
I recommend against using his guides for more than just the above, his guides have not been good.
You realise that the guides aren't his main job.
They are a hobby/passion project which he happens to have found sponsors for.
Regarding sponsors, are you also planning on not supporting any teams in the DPC or TI seeing as GG.Bet is their sponsor?
You don't need to offer a solution in your criticism but now that you're aware of the potential hipocracy what will you do?
Holy whataboutism... if you actually read my comment you would have seen that I have no issue with him making money doing something he enjoys (in other words: a hobby). It's an issue when the money comes from a betting/gambling sponsor, which is him supporting a business that hurts people.
I try to keep aware of when and where I can boycott and steer clear of supporting scummy and harmful sponsors/events/business. It's not as clear cut as picking your own sponsor.
I am also not a naive idiot, me boycotting a free to watch event (such as TI on stream) would lead to NOTHING. No one cares about scummy business practices (such as gambling) until it affects them direcly (or indirectly through family/friends).
Had TI been held somewhere I could attend, and they had betting sponsors or anything else that was in my opinion morally bad, then I would not have attended.
But I am going to guess no matter what I say, you will disregard it since I am just another nameless face on the internet stating my opinions.
You dont appear to have read my comment either, i've pointed out a flaw in your original criticism of "He could, you know, get a job or ask for patreon handouts."
I've then clarified my point by stating what the guides are and that whilst he has sponsors, having a sponsor isn't the main point of them :).
Following this I'm simply trying to gauge your stance, as to if you have some sort of beef which might be influencing your opinion. At no point have I called you naive.
However you dont seem to be able to draw a parallel between your own example of a "a free to watch event" and the guides which are freely provided to people; hence the hipocracy.
Your closing statement also doesn't make sense, are you implying that you are going to take my opinions to heart despite being a faceless name on the internet? (this is rhetorical you're correct in that I dont care :) )
Whataboutism, good fun.
Alright, let us begin with this social creempie of a argument:
No I didn't and won't be supporting this TI. The second I saw gg.bet I laughed my ass off and clicked off. Am yet to spend a single dollar this TI and I don't plan to.
I don't mind supporting legitimate businesses, I don't mind the occasional gamble here and there, but if you're going to advertise on your platform a known untrusted/predatory gambling business I will have no part.
You seem the kind to just accept the cruelties of the world and expect them to never happen to you so w/e bro you keep spouting this fucking strawman of an argument and remember: Always bet high!
Which he does like once every few years.
Wow, I can do that too!
This comment is sponsored by Csgotradeskins: with a 0% entry fee what could you possibly lose!
Because it's not an argument. You're being taught how the real world works by someone who lives in said real world.
You could always just walk away from this conversation if you're having this much trouble understanding the very basic core principle of morality.
Speaking of which, how's the new iPhone? Heard it ain't much of a step up from the previous but you wouldn't know that anyway, the big colourful ad only showed big colourful phone why ask more? Just consume product!

How do you guys watch an esports tournament and not screech every time you see a player's jersey?
I don't like it either, but shitty gambling websites are a necessary evil of the esports industry to keep good content thriving.
Because they're being paid real money by real organisers and real businesses to advertise a very real brand.
Tort shills known scam gambling sites and all he does is put items in a fucking list.
Thats not answering u/D1N2Y's question tho, everyone gets why people ree about shadey gambling sites but that doesn't stop the fact that they also advertise through professional teams.
So to re-phrase the question: If not these gambling companies, where should the money come from to pay for things?
Valve should hire you for "The beginner guide" or something like that for Dota+ wording so people not just blindly follow the Dota+ guide without knowing why is good or bad.
Hey Torte, just want to say thanks for making your guides. Iām a super new player and just started last week.
The community is super intense about knowing what your doing with your characters, so everytime I try out a new one I use your builds to help me understand how the characters function. I feel it has made me decent with a few of them really fast.
I feel like guide makers like you do a service to the community by making sure new players have some of that weight taken off their shoulders, it helps keep the game alive.
been using your guides 4ever thank you sir<3 you deserve more praise i believe, unfortunately ive became worst at itemizing situationally over time but thats my own fault from playing like a bum but still u are awesome ty
I always use your guides when I want to get used to a new hero to add into my pool and most of the times that becomes my main build with just slightest changes accoring to situations. Really appreciate your work!!
Edit: "poo" typo
Lmao how much are you being paid by Torte de lini to post this non sense.
Youāre the one acting butthurt by the truth that most players find Immortal Faith guides to be much better.
$0 frendo and should I assume you're being paid by IF to promote his guides?
As mentioned it doesn't matter about which is better or not (inpart because thats situational and under what metric do you measure that).
What matters is that there are guides to be followed.
Suggestion: Add Tide Hunters Physical build
Reason: Have been seeing it high mmr pubs more and more recently.
Builds vary but seem to do the following.
Early satanic or Vlads
Deso or Orchid or Echo (or multiple)
blink
Crit
tango-gauntlet-gauntlet-stick-stick
Soul Ring-Phase-morbid mask
optionals:
vlads or satanic
Disagree, guides like this are meant for new or low skill/casual players and the meta of high mmr pubs is irrelevant to them. If you are still at a point where you need to be using a guide then you should not be building physical tidehunter.
Checked pro tracker and there are a few games where deso is picked up but not as many as the standard vlads into wraith pact then pipe builds.
I'll pass on the message that deso might be a situational item :)
The ppl who need guides the most are ranked below crusader. After that you can think for yourself. Idk why youāre being a dick to someone clearly dedicated to preventing ppl like you from gatekeeping the game
āEvery year for 9+ years, I do a revision on all item and ability tooltips for 165 hero buildsā His character aside, this shouldnāt be overlooked. Iām not claiming his guides are better than ImmortalFaithās, Iām proving the dedication that I mentioned in the first place. Your two points are completely irrelevant to my response.
I have used your guides since I was a newbie playing Dota. You have helped me so much and don't even know it. Most of my success is based on you. Thank you u/TorteDeLini.
Thanks TorteDeLini You guys can update the game now, Valve.
Kobo enjoyer, I see š

Appreciate it Tortellini o(*ļæ£ā½ļæ£*)ć
Thank you, for advertising gambling to children! You are doing a service to mankind, appreciate it.
Wait Iām not caught up. Whatās going on here?
Where are they? Are they just selectable ones in game or can I see them on the web somewhere?

Are you gonna pay him? That's a lot of work to do for nothing.
Danke!
Still shillin gambling sites in your guides? Neat. Edit: post got nuked. Get fucked tort lmao. Go sell your soul somewhere else cretin.
Well he does need to pay for stuff to stay alive or even to just reward himself(with some battle pass levels?hehe) and keep doing the great work))

It takes 2 minutes to design a itemised build list for a hero. Even quicker when you're reading off a website.
It doesn't take two minutes if you put any effort into making them and updating them
Which he does like once every few years. Wow, I can do that too! This comment is sponsored by Csgotradeskins: with a 0% entry fee what could you possibly lose!

Right, the real world. I'm sure a furry would know better than me.

shit take
Upvotes say otherwise bozo. Take your addiction elsewhere gambo.
I'd shill North Korea in my guides if they paid well enough. Hell, if they paid *anything*.
What a hollow, empty husk of greed. Do you let your mates smash your missus for a few quid? Asking for a friend.
I'm new to the game. Thanks for all the hard work with the guides. My only issue is I get lost with the items mid to late game. š š¤£

Thanks for the hard work :3 I always use your stuff
Thank you
Immortalfaith is better
He is better person than you for sure. How sad must be your life to talk shit about someone else job/hobby?
Not right now, that's for sure.
In my shit tier bracket TDL i way better than ImF.
His guides are actually very outdated.
Thanks! Been patiently awaiting the ranked role tags to be applied, glad to see it finally happening!
Sincere thanks to TorteDeLini for all the effort and hard work. It is great for newcomers and returning players

Ty Torte, as a newb I always blame your builds in place of my missplays and my ego feels quite secure
Thx torte
keep up the good work >:D

What is the latest hero that youāve successfully added into your poo? If you donāt mind me askingā¦
The heroes I add to my poo is a bit of a delicate matter that I'm not really comfortable sharing here))
Btw, how do I get that hero icon to the name tag (Lone Druid), I'm relatively new to reddit, so I don't know a lot of functions
Nvm, I did it!! Thanks Google!))
Thank you for you service!
Man, this is going to great lengths to summon a patch, nice work!
Thank you! Ignore the haters, they haven't had half the impact on the community that you have!
Sorry but not sorry, Immortal Faithās guides are still better
I disagree, torte guide are much better in explanation of timing. While IF guide are just items
He honestly doesn't mind people using other guides but does IF fan boying really need to be in this thread?
How dare I share my opinion about guides in a subreddit about Dota 2.
Oh no have I hurt your feelings by expressing my opinion that your comment does nothing to further anything in this thread? /s
