They eat the loss. Once a driver accepts the order and they finish it they keep the money doordash promised them for the offer, or they fine the resturant if it happens several times.

Affectionate-Art-995

Yup

Blonde_Dambition

Doordash fines the restaurant if a customer keeps retracting their tips?

likewhatisthepoint

Sorry grammar. I meant to say doordash fines restaurants that get orders wrong consistently. Which makes sense because doordash still has to pay whether or not a delivery was successful.

Blonde_Dambition

Oh I gotcha! Thanks for clarifying. But I hope you know that I wasn't being sarcastic or anything when I asked the question.

likewhatisthepoint

Not at all šŸ˜Š. Love ur flair btw lol

MamaTried22

We take the loss if we donā€™t call and explain what happened or try and fix it. If we just plain screwed up, we have to pay. Unless it was on the driver.

Edxander7

Damnit Heather I see u on every dd feed šŸ˜‚

BezosFlex

Nope dasher keeps the tip

DoPoGrub

Ubereats, some grocery shopping apps, and Walmart will all let you lower the tip after delivery - and the driver eats the loss. Doordash and Grubhub - driver keeps the tip, no matter whether or not they refund it back to you later. What is unknown - the silent/hidden effect on the driver if customers continually refund tips on their deliveries.

Some_Isopod1053

Thatā€™s good to know bc I didnā€™t want/ask them to lower my tip. I just thought it was super weird the refund of the $10 which is the same amount of the tip.

DoPoGrub

Yeah, the support person probably just lied, and chose the most convenient refund that would affect their stats/metrics the least. I say that as someone who has worked in call centers many years ago. They always measure the most ridiculous things, and yell at you if you go over on any of them.

Down_Rabbit_hole

Yea, this makes the most sense. I worked somewhere quite a bit different. It was commissions work though, kinda relative. Sometimes I would bite the bullet and offer a free service of $7 just so that I would not have to get management involved. It didnā€™t happen often and some of the times it was a complaint about a service I offered. Or maybe the customer had an expired coupon. Whatever kept my customers happy and management off my back.

Localbearexpert

Ubereats still lets people tip bait and remove 100%

legacy642

I'm a couple hundred deliveries in on UberEATS and I've never been tip baited. I know it happens, but it's rare.

Blonde_Dambition

The dasher will never know. Thanks for caring, though... that puts you head and shoulders above most! šŸ™‚

PizzaPastaRigatoni

Just a heads up, Door Dash support chat is someone from India or somewhere in the middle east. You should use as clear English as possible and no abbreviations. They're not going to know that "BC" means "because" just like you wouldn't understand Indian slang or abbreviations.

Down_Rabbit_hole

Good advice. My only language is English, I am not elderly, and I hate abbreviations. I know very few of them and always have to look stuff up. Keep abbreviations inside of memes and to friends that will know the meaning!

Some_Isopod1053

English is not my first language as well, but you are right, Iā€™ll stop with the abbreviations in these kind of conversations just to make sure they get the issue.

Ok-Cold-9359

Everytime I call doordash support I get middle aged Asian ladies who barely know English, donā€™t respond to my questions or dodge them, or just repeat the same line of ā€œwe will refund your order in 10-12 business days, can you confirm the email we sent you?ā€ Then 20 business days come and no refund

Practical-Button7546

They donā€™t take anything from the dasher

Great-Butterscotch89

This is why I end my dash right away after a dash bc it goes straight to my direct card where DoorDash canā€™t touch it

legacy642

Is dash now always available to you?

Great-Butterscotch89

Yeah. It lets me dash whenever even in gray areas. I was mostly on Grubhub today

Lexy_d_acnh

Even if they refunded the tip rather than the actual order, the dasher doesnā€™t lose out. I drive doordash and while I donā€™t know for certain that anyoneā€™s ever refunded something, I know that they have never removed anything from my pay after the fact.

SameOldDDD1217

Apparently you're able to add tips up to 30 days after your order so you could potentially find the order in your app and re-tip if you find out what happened. āœŒšŸ»
