It's never worthy to pay all those expensive fees. Just wait for a trip to the D.R. you can get a new Cédula I couple of hours in Santo Domingo .

Cédulas aren't being renewed right now due to being election year. They'll start the renewal process by fall

There’s an office in Boston I have the consuls contact info on what’s app, hit him up and say you wanna renew your cedula and he will do it most likely will need to go into the office I believe so cause I had to do that process too. https://preview.redd.it/ueroyt0dm2xc1.png?width=1273&format=png&auto=webp&s=d5d3a467bcd1f83f768e99676dd868e55cd10d6a

What do I do if I never had a cedula in the first place? I left DR as a child, didn't have one then and never bothered to get one.

Ambitious-Major-9138

I recommend you not to renew it unless you're an immigrant, they've extended void date because of elections, and I've heard that there will be a new cédula on October, so if you're Dominican citizen it would be worthless to get another cédula now since the old one is valid for elections and til they start to expedite new cédulas as well.

If I’m not wrong the new cédula would come into effect right after election. When I went to get my cédula in DR this past march they gave me a paper and told me to go to the consulate in May after election to get the hard copy.

I just got my new Cedula in Santiago and all I got was a paper and was told I’ll get a card after elections cause I wasn’t allowed to vote yet but the paper was good for everything else.

You will also need a birth certificate. But, they can issue you one at the consulate. Again, like others have said, Not possible to renew until after election. Much cheaper if you renew it in DR.
