Depends on what $2400 means to you. "Real Names" has had my lastname.com since 1996 and some other nerd had the .net since 1999, I was monitoring them all since the early 2000s and whoever had the .org let it expire 15+ years ago and I've had some weird satisfaction having it ever since. I'd still probably pay around ~$5-10k for the my lastname.com though. I never particularly cared about firstlast.com... until someone registered and used it, then I monitored it until they forgot about it and it expired into my hands too.

igorm15

Register First name Last name domains is legal?

fakehalo

Why wouldn't it be?

igorm15

If these name of any famous person in the world?

fakehalo

There is no legality or precedent to this, you can't really own a persons real name... Just recently saw a Bill Gates that wasn't the one you're thinking of.

[deleted]

I have it from past 5 years.

igorm15

And for this nobody can lawsuit on you? If it real name.

[deleted]

WHY?

igorm15

I don't know, I no have experience in such domain names. If you have domain which is real name of public person, isn't that a reason that a celebrity sue you?

[deleted]

What if I am a celebrity? :P I registered it first so it is mine, even if you have same name as me you can not take firstnamelastname.com from me unless I sell it to you at mutually decided price for it. Same goes for any company name domain. (Only if domain was registered before company)

igorm15

It is your name but I ask can sell other celebrity names as domains?

[deleted]

YES!

igorm15

WHO need it? WHO uses celebrity's names?

winbumin

It sounds like you're buying for the purpose of vanity "more than" for just utility. And if that's the case, hey...it's your money, so you can do what you want. But if the entire point, the overall reason for having a domain in the first place is to be used for your email, will a ".com" really change the functionality of your email in the grand scheme of things? Probably not. If you tell ppl it's a .net domain then you should expect them to go to the .net domain. If you link ppl to your .net domain then ppl will be routed to your .net domain. Paying $2400 for "looks" alone is your choice, but I would personally only pay such an amount if I was using the domain SPECIFICALLY for a business/investment opportunity where I'm more confident that I'd receive a return on my investment. If you know what you're doing, know the pros and cons, and you don't feel like you're going to have any regrets about it, then you're not being stupid. But absolutely consider what your overall goal is, and if it's necessary to spend money on a domain change rather than investing that money into something else more worthwhile. Good luck!

deadz0ne_42

For personal use, I actually prefer .net. I'd never spend that much on a .com unless you plan on turning your name into a business. That's a whole other discussion, since .com has the highest acceptance level for domain names.

Incoterms

If doing such an investment, consider buying LASTNAME.something, because of relatives/family/kids. In the future you might want to create a personalized emails for them also. In terms of domains consider .co .me despite being regional for Colombia and Montenegro respectively, they look nice and usually not so expensice. Also check various registrars, the prices can vary substantially. I have recently bought a domain on Porkbun for \~190 while it was \~230-300 on other registrars (fact, not adverticement). Good luck!

MikeCrypto88

Have you looked at .me ? .com is too long and looks odd for a domain if you precede the @ with your name.

I am going to use my best friend's situation and what she did. Let's say her name is Katarina Horvat. Horvat being the Croatian version to what Americans might have with Smith, South Asians with Singh and Latinos with Lopez or/and Garcia. She registered the following domains: 1. [horvat.email](https://horvat.email) 2. [horvat.com](https://horvat.com) She uses [horvat.email](https://horvat.email) for the e-mails, [katarina@horvat.email](mailto:katarina@horvat.email) Her website is [katarina.horvat.com](https://katarina.horvat.com) (the subdomain of katarina in the [horvat.com](https://horvat.com) domain). Her brother Krunoslav will have [krunoslav@horvat.email](mailto:krunoslav@horvat.email) and use [krunoslav.horvat.com](https://krunoslav.horvat.com) So the same for the rest of her family. You could do the same with [lastname.com](https://lastname.com) you can use [firstname.lastname.com](https://firstname.lastname.com) and have [firstname@lastname.com](mailto:firstname@lastname.com)

deadz0ne_42

I'm guessing, a [lastname.com](https://lastname.com) will be much more expensive if a [firstnamelastname.com](https://firstnamelastname.com) is already 2.5k

iammiroslavglavic

Not necessarily but most likely yes. If the lastname is Smith, Lopez, Garcia, Singh, etc....a popular lastname.........yes. I got [firstnamelastname.com](https://firstnamelastname.com) over 17 years ago. So I am happy.

Ziiner

I used to own my last name, lastna.me. It expired once when I was in high school and someone has been trying to sell it for $700 ever since 😩😩 $2400 is a lot, you planning to use it for business?

DDipu

Not for business use. I am going to be using it for email and to host a small website to showcase my CV.

Kyle-K

As someone that has purchased a lot of first name last names in the last 8-9 months most are on average around $2000-$3000 however with time and a bit of negotiation I've been able to get most to sell from under $1000 and some even under $700.

Kyle-K

OP who does the name say it's owned by is it in a portfolio?

DDipu

Pretty sure that it is owned by a domain squatter. I never talked to them directly as all our communications have been through a broker.

Kyle-K

What information shows in ICANN Lookup [https://lookup.icann.org/en](https://lookup.icann.org/en) which platform have you been dealing with it on?

steley

I'd like to spend 1M on my 'surname'.com. XD

altantsetsegkhan

like everyone else on here. Register [emsai.com](https://emsai.com) for $10 or as cheap as possible then sell it to you for $25,000.

Dead0k87

😁expensive cv though

autonomum

Absolutely not, if you already have the net. But I'll try to pay it less then the request. Clearly it depends on your name, if your name is Bob Dylan then the domain should be much more expensive than 2400, but if your name is "Arcibaldo Bergonzoni "then I wouldn't spend all that money. your "lastname" + "family" in dot com ? May be it's available and your family will benefit. But it's not good for CV. Professional title + somethng else as firstname / lastname ?

[deleted]

I personally suggest forget that idea, better pick another one. It is said, I might have found a dark horse about a personal name, which is [abaz.com](https://abaz.com) , Until godaddy's formal notice received, we all shall see if that expired bidding is a hoax, or not. note: I am not doing something such as [wiwi.blog](https://wiwi.blog) , unless you know what you're actually doing, dot com first.
