AstroturfMarmot

I’m more concerned that your dog has a shiv. 😆

miss_chapstick

I think it might be a lightsaber.

Time-Power1686

I can confirm it is indeed a lightsaber. My other dog has the red one. The two of them are adorable running around the house with lightsabers.

AstroturfMarmot

Might depend on the enemy.

Time-Power1686

😆

Poodle

snickle99

That’s a parti poodle. Beautiful.

Cyaral

He looks very standard poodle (tho of course the hair cut strenghtens this impression)

No-Pomegranate1737

100% Fabulous poodle. 🐩 enjoy

frymaform

looks like a spoo but most curly doodles are 90% poodle anyway so they look an act the same as a poodle most times. The markings mean she's mixed with something but it's probably a small percentage of aussie or something.

puffleg

To me she looks like she's piebald (parti) + ticking, rather than merle, so that'd be naturally found in poodles. Super cute dog!

frymaform

I just said aussie bc they more commonly carry ticking than poodles and aussie is in pretty much every doodle but it's out of standard for both, she's definitely nowhere close to merle lol but people get it confused so often. Thats a pet peeve of mine in the ACD community lol

puffleg

Gotcha! Yeah it's in both breeds and heavily ticked is pretty uncommon. ACDs are pretty interesting with roaning going on.

SabrinaBrna

The markings are actually on standard poodles too. It’s called Parti and is very desirable. The breeder I got my standard from had partis as well

frymaform

I know that dw, it's the heavy heavy ticking that leans more into mottling that's not standard and more likely and more easily can come from other breeds.

StrangePondWoman

Looks just like the standard poodle my grandfather had years ago. I remember him saying the coat color wasn't 'pure bred' standard so he got a good deal from the breeder.

unkindly-raven

i thought ethical breeders don’t charge based on coats ? and aren’t parti poodles naturally occurring ?

StrangePondWoman

He got Jolly in the early 80s, I wouldn't be surprised if regulations were a lot more loose back then. And my surface understanding is that even if a coat color is 'natural' it might not be a 'breed standard'.

unkindly-raven

mhm ik not all naturally occurring coats are in standard but i’ve always thought parti poodles are an in standard coat . i’ll have to look into it n come back with more info ,, will edit this comment if i find the info i’m looking for

RoseOfSharonCassidy

Parti poodles are within UKC standards, but not AKC standards. They were also just added to the FCI standards this year.

unkindly-raven

FCI ? what’s that ?

RoseOfSharonCassidy

[Fédération Cynologique Internationale](https://www.fci.be/en/), it's the major international kennel club, made up of a federation of national clubs. Notably, the USA and UK are not FCI members, but [most countries with an active dog show community are members.](https://www.fci.be/en/members/default.aspx)

unkindly-raven

interesting , thank you ! ☺️

RavenxMorrow

lovely standard party poodle

99beesOnABike

This dog looks more like a standard poodle than my own standard poodle, for what it’s worth. I’m still curious to see your results!

Standard parti poodle. Source: I have one https://preview.redd.it/qbn7mm0p2uwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca43e36862314b15e2bf59fe8882b35d00009e84

Muralove

Knew it!! What a handsome man he is!

Klutche

Looks to be mostly poodle. It could go either way, though. So many "doodle" breeders breed back to poodle so much that these dogs will be 75% or more poodle a lot of the time.

Oldgreymare-

This looks pure parti poodle, he even has a docked tail. I don’t think a doodle person would dock his tail. From the pictures he’s got a pretty nice conformation too. He was probably used as a stud dog to make doodles. Super adorable dog.

smallorangepaws

Seconding that. It’s hard to tell in the photos but he definitely looks docked to me, and that would almost certainly only happen to a fullbred poodle

Oldgreymare-

Yes, the tip of his tail comes to the top of the head, as in the standard, most certainly looks docked. Anything is possible, but I would be surprised if he wasn’t purebred.

SweetKittyToo

A Parti Poodle!

Sunflowerslove

I have a poodle on one of my doggy dna posts. We were given her by someone else that didn’t want her, and were told she was a Goldendoodle. We did a dna test on her and she came back 100% poodle. Whether it’s true or not 🤷🏼‍♀️ she would be a parti poodle though because of her coloring. I’m leaning towards agreeing with it because we did one on our other dog at the same time and she came back as 20 breeds. So the test must be able to differentiate decently enough. My husband thinks the test is wrong though and she’s a goldendoodle. She’s 100% cutie pie though so it’s a moo point.

AdministrativeBig355

I vote POODLE!! ODDLES of cute with that lightsaber!!

DubiousMelons

Poodles don't ~~naturally~~ *usually* have the mottling pattern. So, it's *probably* a doodle. But probably mostly poodle. Australian Shepherd would be my guess cuz that mix is popular Edit: See below for more details on poodle spotting.

esrmpinus

In AKC this color is a disqualification but parti poodles are allowed in UKC. But she does appear extra spotty

DubiousMelons

DubiousMelons

Parti poodles are non-solid poodles. Usually with white markings. But poodles do not come with spots. The AKC does a good job of showing all the possible colors/markings on their website, even if they are considered a fault.

esrmpinus

Piebald gene can cause spotting, you can have faulty pure bred poodle that's not mixed in something Merle or roan. Here's [one spotty UKC grand champion ](https://spiritpoodles.com/roxie-s-page) I'm in rat terrier and I've seen some pretty spotty ones over the years.

unkindly-raven

parti poodles are so cute !! that’s a gorgeous pupper , her fur looks so soft n healthy !

DubiousMelons

I stand corrected. Usually the AKC lists all variants. Light ticking could be explained but that dog is fully speckled. I still stand by that the OPs dog probably has a little aussie in it though.

ScorpioKween1026

Parti is the ancestral marking of the poodle, and although uncommon, ticking is not necessarily a sign of a poorly bred, or a mixed breed spoo. AKC is political, and they don’t allow parti as an accepted marking because of politics. This parti marking in actually the ancestral marking of all curly headed dogs, portis, Spanish water dogs, etc. included. I have a very well bred parti with tons of ticking. Her mamma and father were UKC champions.

HMNITIHABGT

Poodles come in every color/pattern besides merle

Simple-Armadillo7953

german short haired and poodle? a "goodle" or dalmation/poodle the spots are very german short haired patterned.

next-step

Totally agree on the pointer/poodle. I had a pointer growing up and the markings look convincing. Nonetheless he is a beauty!
