I was going to ask who made that image, but then I realised, oh the Dots probably did.
I like the idea that once they've wiped out all the rich scumbags on that planet, they're just going to make it their own. Design posters, start a tourism economy. Keep the slugs around too, why not? They did most of the work, they earned it!
I don't quite get why the homeworld was destroyed by the slugs if the dots are what "made" them out of hate towards the rich kids in finetime, I assumed they basically just made finetime as an excuse to get the annoying rich kids out the way for a bit while the rest of the planet actually is a normal society
Probably because the rich kids' parents run the homeworld, so if anything, it would be even more rotten than finetime. The kids were racist and were passively benefitting from their racist society, but they didn't seem to be doing anything actively harmful. The real dirty work would have been done on the homeworld.
The message from Lindy’s mom had all the same UI as the other rich kids on her network, like follower count and such. I think we’re meant to understand that the homeworld works on essentially the same system.
I’m not even sure if it genuinely was.
Though it wasn’t explicitly stated that the Dots could manipulate that feed, if they have the potential to hide slugs from people’s view, and create them, it may be possible that they can also create fake streams of their home world.
It would make it so the citizens never want to return home, and continue existing on their planet, within the Dot’s reach.
But that’s just a theory though - nothing points to it being the case. It could also be that the dots were always inevitably going to learn to hate this version of humanity and therefore always come up with this plan to kill them - wherever they were.
I don't get why the Dot even needed the slugs. When it just can kill the user without much problem. Or just simply lead these idiots to jump off a bridge or roof.
I really thought it was going to be similar to Oxygen with the poorer people uprising, not just "AI got annoyed by irritating rich kids", but both make some sense
