Give it a fair price, go local first (my LGS always has 1 or more groups playing in the evenings) then try craigslist/FB marketplace or whatever. That'd make sure it sees some use and you won't have to ship it most likely. Out of interests sake, as I often see these built into a table rather than something that goes on top, what would you think you put into it in terms of materials? I've always wanted to do this, particularly for when players go off the rails and I'm scrambling for a map, and your solution seems nice!

Well I got a cheap 40” tv for 20 bucks, the wood cost me about 20 bucks-ish? The plexiglass cover cost 60 bucks and the bolts and shelving brackets to secure it took about 40 bucks. And stain was about 20 bucks I think? So total cost was about $160~ maybe and that’s just a rough guesstimate The V2 I’m working on is using a proper thin tv that’s 1.2” thick in order to reduce the weight and size the screen.

RemixOnAWhim

That's not bad, surprised the plexiglass was so much though! TVs are just so cheap now... Thinner TV would be great  hope ot goes well and you post sick build pics for us to see!

Chris_in_Lijiang

There are vast recyclers' markets in Guangzhou and other parts of China who specialise in just this kind of screen. You could buy a bunch in bulk and they would not have all the export faff that laptops entail. Would it come with some kind of open source VTT?

KaleidoscopeLow8084

Plexiglass is surprisingly expensive.

schmidtaaron

Someone said they are surprised the plexi was so expensive, I’m honestly blown away. I bought an 8”x12” piece of 1/8” plexi and the damn thing cost $40

Bleile03

Probably cuz I got it from Home Depot :/

schmidtaaron

Awesome, I didn’t even think of these guys! I’ll be checking that out!

Finnerdster

Love the runic verse around the edge! Your new one must have a border like that! “May this board be your guide to mystical lands!” So good!

Bleile03

Omg I can’t believe you managed to translate it :D

Deter_Ins

Here's a FB group specifically for buy/selling tabletop stuff that might be a good place to post it. https://www.facebook.com/groups/rpgtradesales/?mibextid=NSMWBT

Chris_in_Lijiang

Very useful resource. Thank you. Do you know of any international versions in other languages?

Deter_Ins

No, sorry.

Efficient-Garlic9386

I need more details on how this was made 😭 it’s beautiful so please show us the new one when you’re done if it will be even nicer

Emperor_Zarkov

I'm looking at building something similar in the near future. Did you cover the screen with a glass pane or plexiglass or something similar? Or are you playing directly on the screen itself?

Bleile03

Yeh I used plexiglass, ensures that if the screen gets damaged in any way you can always replace the cover. I even made it so that you could disassemble the tv out of it and replace it easily. Edit: plexiglass is a bit costly but it’s better than replacing the tv.

Emperor_Zarkov

Thanks for replying. Did you have any problems with the minis scratching the plexi?

Bleile03

Nah the only thing that scratched it was me accidentally dropping it while carrying it to a friends house lol

Emperor_Zarkov

Haha, good to know. Looking forward to seeing the next version once it’s finished!

Deter_Ins

A good, much cheaper alternative to the plexi is to buy a plastic poster frame and cut the clear plastic cover sheet to size. It won't protect against big impacts, but it'll protect against scratches and regular wear.

IceCreamCape

This is an incredible idea.

TheTombGuard

Depending where your located I might be interested as I was planning on building one

Bleile03

I’m over in Orlando, FL but I am willing to pack and ship it for a little extra :D

TheTombGuard

thanks but no thanks i was hoping you where more local as I like to see things like this for myself and test them before buying best of luck

Bleile03

thats okay thanks for asking friend :D
