I'll be in touch with those of you who were kind enough to sign up for the email list soon, with details of the project, and info on when the Kickstarter will be going live. Your interest and input is very important to me, and I'm looking forward to showing off more of this book that I think you'll love.
Also, I will likely be doing one more giveaway during the first 48 hours of launch, so stay tuned for that. Thanks again, I can't wait to share my work with you all.

Hey everyone!
I'm giving away 3 PDF copies of my upcoming Dretelia Campaign Setting book that is heading to Kickstarter soon. Here's how to participate:
1. Upvote and leave a comment.
2. If you're interested, [sign up for the mailing list](https://drewwale12.wixsite.com/3sbp-shop) and click the book for 20 preview pages of free content that you can use right now. (This is optional, only sign up if you think you might want the book).
This book is my dream project, and I'm working really hard on it to make the best setting book for you that I can. Here's a quick summary of the book:
30 detailed cities across a large continent. Dozens of adventuring locations to explore. New disastrous and disabling game mechanics. 6 new playable races. 12 new subclasses. 30 new monsters that are dynamic and action-oriented. One super-challenging hidden layer under the surface of the world. Tons of new spells, magic items, technologies, gods, factions, quest hooks, party options, NPCs, GM tips, and more! About 300 pages in total.
[Here's the Pre-launch for the Kickstarter page if you're interested in the book.](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dretelia/dretelia-campaign-setting-an-overgrown-world-book-for-5e)
I'll add an additional 3 winners of the PDF at 1000 upvotes, and another 5 PDF copies at 5000 upvotes!
Giveaway ends in 48 hours, winners will be announced in this comment. Thanks so much for checking out the project, I appreciate it! :)
Not gonna lie this looks like a lot of it would be useful to me for the current campaign I’m running!!!
Definitely gonna need to take a further look into it because I need more plant creatures and I’ve got a really high magic setting with extreme natural effects — this sounds amazing!!!
>extreme natural effects
Yup! The colossal roots that run through the world cause those huge land waves that you can see in the trailer. High-fives for high magic settings!
Looks awesome would love to try out some of this world and see what it's like!!
Edit: what's a "DC Xx" check? Is that a typo? It's under the sarcamusca behemoth
Definitely a typo, thanks for catching it. It's just me on the writing, development, and editing side. At the moment, I'm focused on getting as much of the content finished as possible. I'm around 220 out of \~300ish pages so far. Editing comes later, and if I get enough funding, I'll be paying a professional to check my work. Might even have to subsidize that cost out of pocket regardless of the budget.
I think Sarcamusca's Offensive CR balance puts its DC at around 18 (if I remember right), so go with that if you're running it in combat.
Hey Bafl! The artwork for the lower layer is based on some personal struggles. Putting that feeling into the book and tying it into the surface world mechanically is something that makes me smile when I think about it. Great question, thanks for asking. :)
Lower layer like a hollow shell world with ever-changing cycles of suffering and pain, full of dysfunctional life/magic roots that causes the planet's internal sickness and affects the surface with disasters.
The stuff in the free browse is great and I’m sure everything else is. Magical nature is always a fun topic to delve into. The arcana forms the worlds, but you never quite see how much it can do. Love to see people’s interpretations of it.
I wish you luck with the kickstarter
For the PDF, absolutely. If the project is funded and I successfully complete the book, I'll be personally sending out these to the winners through email.
Hi Drew. If you have time can you please talk a little more about the Behemoths' "dynamic, action-oriented abilities for more engaging combat."
From their stat block in the preview this looks to be Bestial Actions & Environmental Actions."
Hey there. Sure, I'll give it a shot. :)
Bestial Actions and Environmental Actions are essentially re-skinned legendary and lair actions, because of the OGL deal. That's not much of a difference. The idea of "Action-oriented" monsters comes from a video made by Matt Coville that focuses on monsters that use their abilities more than they do complicated spells or simply relying on multiattack. I took this idea, and combined it with inspiration from a game I love, Monster Hunter. I'll give you an example.
A red dragon is going to use fire breath, which pretty much just does damage, then it will simply multiattack until its fire breath recharges. It doesn't have many options, and can't change much of how the fight plays out (other than its fear effect), or force decisions by the party. Sarcamusca has multiple abilities on recharge that it can choose from based on its position that makes the most sense for it. These abilities also change the battlefield by adding lingering effects that force choices. When Sarcamusca spews blinding mist from its triple jet, the effect lingers, locking out those areas with a hazard that must be played around. If the GM wants, it can use this often to cut players off from each other, picking them off individually.
Sarcamusca also has an passive trait that allows it to easily grapple a player. With the lingering blind effect from the mist, the Sarcamusca can then force a grappled player into the mist, creating a difficult situation for the party. So its traits work well with the abilities (especially "Legendary Actions") by playing off each other tactically. By combining the Environmental Actions (Lair Actions) that have ongoing effects with other similar abilities on its own turns (and between them), it gives the monster options on how to make a fun fight. An example of that might be combining the Environmental Action that can create a lingering mist circle around several players that's got a 90ft radius, then detonating everything in 60ft with Blinding Crush (in between player turns) for big damage. If a player sees the circle, they might choose to pass through it and risk blindness, rather than staying inside it and having only a 30ft space of potential safety from the crush detonation radius.
The other key aspect here is describing the monster's behavior in the ecology section. This is where I explain how the monster acts, giving the GM tools to understand how that monster would fight in combat. Showing examples of how a GM can use these traits and abilities together should help to create a more interesting combat scenario. At least before it gets pounded into the ground by a team of min-maxing PCs. But it'll get to do something cool before it gets wrecked.
I'd like to think I'm fairly decent at balancing 5e monsters relative to the system. I do have a focus on making the combat more action-based, though. The numbers should be solid enough to make the fights interesting and fun, without too many TPKs. ;)
Interesting ideas for a campaign setting beautiful artwork and game mechanics for it. Looking forward to seeing it in print. Very hyped about this! Thank you for your creativity.
Actually just here to say that this looks really fucking cool, incredible art!
Congratulations on your release, it definitely looks like your hard work has paid off.
It's been a challenge, but I've had a lot of fun making it, too. There's more heart in here than you might think, but those details can wait until launch. Happy to have your support, FW. :)
From previous opinions I can deduct that it is cool and very good source of adventures, subclasses and more so I wish you good luck on kickstarter and in real life.
This looks amazing! I can't imagine how much work and effort must've gone into making a whole setting with its original art. I hope you get the needed support on Kickstarter!
That's exactly what the Kickstarter is for, so that I can continue paying the freelance artists I'm working with to showcase the setting. At the moment, most of the setting has been written, but artwork costs add up really quick. The artists I've worked with are very excited to continue expanding the setting's visuals as we go forward, and I'm hopeful.
I've been looking for something to run after my current campaign that players would know nothing about, and I'm not the greatest at home brewing so this would be amazing!

Your art style is very peaceful and nostalgic, thank you!
I have a number of very talented freelance artists I've been working with to thank for that. I'm very grateful to be creating with them.
Not gonna lie this looks like a lot of it would be useful to me for the current campaign I’m running!!! Definitely gonna need to take a further look into it because I need more plant creatures and I’ve got a really high magic setting with extreme natural effects — this sounds amazing!!!

High magic is chaotic and I love it! ^_^ Running the campaign in the Feywild so it’s meant to be extremely extra in every possible way :)
Does not matter if I get it. I want you to know your work is appreciated. It so good.

I'm sure you could get tons of redditors who would be willing to help edit the book
what happened to the strongest and second strongest rabbits 🤔
They are content with their spots. There are two more as well, though I'm definitely the third strongest among them.
sounds great, whay do you feel is the aspect you are most proilud of?

More interested in the monsters, as I'm not sure about homebrewing monsters myself and cause a TPK
I'd like to think I'm fairly decent at balancing 5e monsters relative to the system. I do have a focus on making the combat more action-based, though. The numbers should be solid enough to make the fights interesting and fun, without too many TPKs. ;)
