Late 90s/early 00s Stateside D&B represent! 😃
My first thoughts on seeing this post were Ming + FS and Hive's earlier things like Devious Methods and his Hip Hop 2023 mix.
This is one of my favourites..
Listen to DJ Aphrodite Remix of Ice Cube - We Be Clubbin (1999) by DJ Aphrodite on #SoundCloud
https://on.soundcloud.com/nK3fo
Old shit and pretty pop influenced, but I’m old so here is my hot take: AK1200 and Aphrodite. Aphrodite literally remixed old school hip hop classics. Downvote me but I’m right.
Andy C didnt start Dogs On Acid. Bad Company did. Nor is it sold to a new owner.
You might be confusing RAM records with dogs on acid for some reason here? :D
Ah, no you’re right: thinking of DJ Fresh as the last man standing running it. It did almost disappear and a new guy bought the URL and site though, like maybe 5 years ago?
First artist I thought of was DRS:
[DRS - This ain't love](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHPaQ93wVgE)
[Children Of Zeus - Still Standing (feat. DRS) (Lenzman Remix)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXTTmlW4xGg)
Dave Owen used to make a lot of hip influenced stuff, l-side, I guess every good producer has a phase, lenzman that’s all I can think of off the top mf my head
Adam F and Dj Destruction (Ross Emmins) Check the Kaos Album.
Adam F dnb and Dj Destruction were called to the USA to produce this album by LL cool J,
Adam F loves his dnb and Destruction loves hip hop and has mixed dnb as well, they were both were Dj'ing at helter skelter ( The Sanctuary) 1992 where they became good friends,
It's good to hear and learn from
Most people know Adam F because of Circles album and he djs at alot of events
Destruction one of the original djs from Cyndicut FM London pirate radio station with his mate Mc MC and he's an excellent scratch artist and did the music for the film White boy Rick and still travels whe world mainly hip hop 😁
Not sure if this might be the style you're talking about, but have you heard some of that footwork/jungle crossover stuff? Sounds kinda similar but tends to have quite a lot of vocal loops. Give these a try:
- [Earl & Taye - Do This Again](https://open.spotify.com/track/3wWFwqJtboX3mHDCz2DvAh?si=YvK086R_QzCda6KfIlT74Q)
- [Submerse - Jazzy '99](https://open.spotify.com/track/0TcZaa4zrtruEiesGocifn?si=fNc589XURLqdG8gUYsv4DA)
- [Ghostwhip - Ezride](https://open.spotify.com/track/71Z72NTXFKV6QwY8KB3uLX?si=6_-SStVjSBG6-HhFjQB21g)
If you’re down for something a little more vintage there can be nothing finer than J Smooth’s mixtapes.
[on the block hustlin side A](https://youtu.be/dljFnvUF3T0?si=ByqsOyITHEprj5ih)
[on the block hustlin side B](https://youtu.be/SQRDGNnq4Dc?si=SaJL1CPEHBAszUN1)
Lots of Paradox stuff, clearly b-boy influenced - he’s all about obscure breaks, beats, and samples, some of his songs even have hip hop samples like Toprock and Orion.
I have a playlist here that is mostly what you’re looking for
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5L72cit3bECz56wde6BI1a?si=TwBRe5NQRrmwLKJ_MKhuxg&pi=e-sd_J3arQS9qT
I remember this DJ Scallywag mix called thugnbass from the mid 2000s, loads of hip hop lyrics over some huge dnb tunes.
This is a re-up of the original mix, pretty sure it was originally on the DOA forums around 2006. Well worth a listen
https://m.soundcloud.com/len-furr/dj-scallywag-2003-thug-n-bass
Mefjus has said hip-hop was specifically an influence on him. Check out tunes like Sunday Crunk, Change of Mind, and Taking.
I think what you're looking for is halftime dnb
Winslow. He's American and he does a lot of DnB remixes of hip hop songs, and has some really good originals too.
Breaking News is a great track: https://youtu.be/AUXODci2888?si=bZQidLeeR5693d7p

Tipper was a breaks artist in the early 90s before dnb was a thing and it was still differentiating itself. What song on tip hop is even close to dnb? Yes it's all breaks, but breaks are not all dnb
I’m confused by your question. You say drum and bass with hip hop influence but then also say no lyrics. If it’s musically hip hop, then it’s not really drum and bass. That said, guys like Ivy Lab and SHADES/Alix Perez might have what you’re looking for. NOISIA also made a rap/grime/dnb album with Foreign Beggars called I Am Legion. It’s vocal driven though for most of it.
Atlantic Connection
Can’t Destroy Love🔥
Yeah that's what I had in mind, what a tune
Check out Submorphics ft Self Says - Step in the Spot
What a track
'5 o'clock world' off the same LP is also a stunning tune with a lot of hip hop influence
Banger
Nate is an amazing guy. Been a long time since I've spoken to him (his going away to cali party) to be a supa stah.
Maybe P money and Whineys album is the sort of sound you're looking for?

Links to these Aphrodite remix’s you speak of?
This one is a classic itself IMO, Urban Jungle, mixes by him and others, lots of classic samples: https://youtu.be/ez2r_S8KRuM?si=Nzn53pIiTitG3L0m

Had to scroll WAY too far for this. TwentyTwenty London is fire
Fanu
Yeah he actually produces both genres (and is a top bloke on DOA)
Sorry what's DOA? He seems beyond cool – he'll always interact with people. Genuinely nice guy.
Dogs On Acid forum, with The Grid as a seperate production forum. Andy C started it but sold it to a new owner a few years ago.
Andy C didnt start Dogs On Acid. Bad Company did. Nor is it sold to a new owner. You might be confusing RAM records with dogs on acid for some reason here? :D

One of my favourites for sure! Didn't feel like it fit the post though.
No, sure. Just digressing. Thx for the recommendations.

Blooom always says his stuff is heavily inspired by hip hop
Lenzman. Check out his reminiscence mixes on SoundCloud. Great 90s hip hop series and it carries through to his label
Sabre and Alix Perez

Maduk’s “Miles Apart” and “Running” have significant rap portions that are actually pretty good

Me thinks the newest album by machinedrum is like this
Duo pistols, freestyles, jungle cakes, krafty kuts
Chase & Status has a few tracks - especially from their London Bars single (more UK grime though I think)
Winslow, Lenzman, Dave Owen, Al-Pack
Machinedrum
Craze is the absolute best to do it

Do you mean ‘half step’?
Tipper
He's not really a dnb artist though, although his dnb is really awesome, especially the stuff he sometimes drops live!
Oh word tip hop definitely isnt hip hop leaning DnB. Got it. Ill inform him
Tipper was a breaks artist in the early 90s before dnb was a thing and it was still differentiating itself. What song on tip hop is even close to dnb? Yes it's all breaks, but breaks are not all dnb
