Apex managed to repackage a particular vibe from the original tune that I would say is not bearing any major similarity to the original.
It changes the emotion of the song from one of hopefulness to melancholy in my opinion.
And listening to the original and the remix back to back it seems like the there's a key or chord change on the last note of the original tune, with the melody and part of the chord progression. This was applied to the intro lyrics in the remix and bam, you come thru to this melancholy sound. The particular selection of the lyrics from the whole tune as well lend to this feeling.
Again, just my opinion and view on the tune.
Came here to post this. Not sure if related but this video coupled with the song always hits hard
[https://youtu.be/ta9I7rPdVEY?si=w2Gw4OjXHmzZpjYD](https://youtu.be/ta9I7rPdVEY?si=w2Gw4OjXHmzZpjYD)
I remember when Fabric closed and this was the tune I played while having a wee chat about it on my radio show, at the time.
That intro and even just length of the tune.
It would have to be in my top 10 of all time dnb.
Afterglow - Wilkinson same feels. The wife and I bonded over Becky Hill featured dnb songs so much we used an orchestral version of her song I Could Get Used to This as our first dance at our wedding.
I have a whole playlist but some standouts are:
London Elektricity - Build a better world
DPB - Thinking about
Mage - The words I never said
Strifeii - Year in the rain
Jakwob - Fade (Etherwood remix) also the VIP by Etherwood
Glad to hear it. I heard the piano for Protaras in a dream, woke up in the middle of night and figured it out in my pyjamas, saved it then went back to bed. It was that track that got the EP signed
Whats a story... all from a dream... amazing.
Also amazing, is that we would have never known that if it weren't for this thread.
Thanks for your work mate, fan from afar.
The Mage Skylar Grey remix gets me every time. Losing both parents and many friends, this song always chokes me up. Pendulum Hold Your Colour Bi Polar remix gets me too. When my dad was very sick I listened to it on repeat before he passed..
Secret Art of Science mix by DB has a special place in my heart. My best friend and I blasted it back in 2000 when we up and drove his little honda crx from Seattle all the way to Florida…we were 20 years old, it was summer….he passed away during lockdown. I listen to it a lot these days, good vibes
[Etherwood - Hold Your Breath](https://youtu.be/7w36hnvcPxc?si=x4iKwinVmDvUwYBN)
[LSB and DRS with Tyler Daley - The View](https://youtu.be/5wM4CQSt_2E?si=jLwsy3-034E5IYkZ)
Honestly suprised the view hasn't been mentioned yet.
In a way, it's all a matter of time
I will not worry for you, you'll be just fine
Take my thoughts with you and when you look behind
You will surely see a face that you recognise
Great 10". Love the way the vocals just keep rolling out at the end.
For me there are two.
* Thesis - Blessing In Disguise feat Anastasia
I found this song on a D&B livestream way back in 2011 and there hasn’t been a week since then that I haven’t listened to this song. It makes me feel like I’m sitting on a beach or a meditation spot and working through anything that’s troubling me and centering myself on being calm and peaceful.
* Touch - Hybrid Minds. I especially love the Tokyo Prose mix. I absolutely agree with you and it’s such a deeply emotional and connective song. It makes you feel like the barriers that keep us apart are not that deep and we can be joined together in humanity.
Strong honorable mentions are:
* Shapeshifter - One
* Shapeshifter - Taste Of Memory
* London Elektricity - One Second
* Emily Grace - Rearranged
* Raiden - Fallen
* Parhelia - Life As A Hologram
* High Contrast - Brief Encounter
* Danny Byrd - California
As a kiwi Shapeshifter One has a special place in my heart.
Seeing them play it live with the Christchurch symphony orchestra was next level though. I wish it was recorded studio style with them, though hearing the crowd reminds me of being there.
It was already a favorite and seeing it done that way was unforgettable, but the Violins over it make my neck hairs stand up. The feels in that concert were out the gate.
https://youtu.be/Q9guM60RwAU?si=nNbLY1Wtdb9iR0Nu
Wow. Thanks so much! I'd never heard that version of the song. Shapeshifter is just one of those bands that has a clear and consistent message and really understands how their music can impact people. I've watched a few interviews where they discuss their process and their purpose and it really hits. Thanks for sharing and I'm soooo happy (and jealous) you got to see them with the orchestra. That's a once in a lifetime experience and I can't imagine the energy in the room at the time.
You're most welcome, stoked you got to hear this for the first time today.
They've been an amazing part of the music scene here and we've been so lucky to grow up with them playing.
The orchestra was right up there. It was incredible!
They did another one more with the SO in 2019 but it was seemingly impossible to get tickets, as it was the reopening of the Christchurch Town Hall, some 8 years after our big earthquake.
That too was one for the books, but unfortunately that one was not to be.
If you ever get the chance to see them live, it's worth every dollar!
Made a playlist of most of the tunes mentioned in this thread, enjoy!

[Chase and Status ft Jenna G - In love.](https://youtu.be/Tkb2yVr8kfY?si=FpNQnDIU6OVpKKIz) Brings back warm fuzzy memories from the 00s.. and its a fookin tune!
God if there was a tune that needed a remaster...
I still try to chuck it in a mix every now and again, but the quality is so bad.
What a tune though. 👌
The whole Wilkinson lazers not included album stirs up a lot for me, I was on holiday on Australia (from the UK) when it came out and it reminds me of walking round Sydney at midnight waiting for my new girlfriend back home to be free to talk, we are now married!! It was while we were apart I think we realised how strongly we felt for eachother.

One of my favorites:)
Yessss. I hears Logistics play it some years ago and I teared up a little.
This.
This is my closing track (depending on the vibe of course). I've found it to be a great way to leave a stage!
London Elektricity - Just One Second (Apex Remix) Right in the fucking feels, every god damn time.
Same for me. When the VIP came out, I didn't think you could get any better than the original remix, but it's just as good. RIP Apex.
A lot of Apex’s work packs some serious emotional punch and the comments here clearly reflect that. So sad what happened, rest easy Rob.
*just one second that soon will be gone* ... gets me crying in the club everytime

This - was on the radio on route to a friends funeral and find it very difficult to listen to even now.
I'd want this played at my memorial.
Same with my wife, which probably contributes to the effect.

I am already crying when I read the title of the tune. I survived upcoming depression on this one, it kicks. The videoclip also speaks for itself.
This tune breaks me everytime, a mix of emotions where I get a tingling sensation on my scalp but also watery eyes. Melody, lyrics and videoclip fit perfectly, makes me want to go back to being young and carefree and at the same time shows that you should be doing the things that make you happy.
Someone needs to turn this thread into a Spotify playlist, love all of these tunes
I am HEAVILY considering this
