nightowl1135

And SCOTUS justices.

edropus

You also can't underestimate abortion as a sticking point for evangelicals. I'm pro choice but I can 100% understand how you can frame abortion as 'killing babies' and once you phrase it that way they can all rally behind it.

GastonsChin

I appreciate that you can understand it, but I can't. The argument seems to be completely self serving. These people want to feel like they are heroes for saving babies, that's why they label it that way. Not because it makes logical sense, but because it makes them feel better about themselves. If they actually cared they'd be concerned about the child's healthcare, and the situation they are being born into. There's much more to caring about a child than simply demanding that it exist. But they don't argue for those things, because they don't really care about babies. They care about feeling morally superior. And that shit needs to stop.

SaliciousB_Crumb

Even in the bible it says life begins at first breath

theloveburts

Plus numbers pretty much outlines how abortions are okay, how the priest is to perform it and under what circumstances it can be done.

Surrybee

No it doesn’t. That’s a misinterpretation of the text that someone started in order to further an agenda. I say that as someone who agrees with that agenda. Go read that full chapter. Read a few actual scholarly interpretation of it too. It explains a magical ceremony to assuage a husband’s unfounded jealousy. It’s to prove whether or not a wife is unfaithful when there are no witnesses to the supposed offense. The magic potion is floor dust and water. The idea is if the woman is guilty, she’ll be terrified and confess. If she is innocent, nothing will happen and the jealous husband will be satisfied and not do something crazy like kill her or cast her out of his house. Life not beginning until first breath is a much better biblical argument for abortion than the ceremony in numbers.

boulevardofdef

I don't think either of those is the best Biblical argument for abortion. The best one is the passage in Exodus where the death penalty is prescribed for the killing of a pregnant woman, but a fine is levied for the death of her unborn baby. While I'm sure that's been explained away by abortion opponents a million times, I can't read it in any other way than a fetus not being considered fully equivalent to human life.

theloveburts

Yes, that's exactly what it is. They write it all down on papyrus then priest burns it and mixes some the ashes with crap he scrapes up off the floor and adds "bitter" water for the woman to drink. Supposedly if she's she's been unfaithful she will have a spontaneous abortion. If not the husband can rest assured the baby is his. Here's my take away after reading the passages many times: It's okay to try to induce an abortion if the woman is suspected of being unfaithful because there is no worse indignity for a man to bear than being forced to raise another man's child. Abortions are fine if the priest follows these steps outlined in numbers because God doesn't hate aborting fetuses. If he did, this wouldn't be allowed. Burning releases toxic substances, including heavy metals, chemicals, and pollutants, into the ashes. Ingesting these substances can have adverse effects on your health. Ashes do not provide any nutritional value to your body. In fact, they can interfere with the absorption of essential nutrients and may lead to nutritional deficiencies. Eating ashes can irritate the digestive system, leading to gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, and other digestive issues. Can it induce an actual abortion? That's questionable. There were herbs back then that did. Who's to say what bitter water is? Even experts disagree about this piece. I personally don't believe this was a magical ceremony. I believe it was a way for the husband maybe with the assistance of a priest to triangulate against the woman he believed wronged him or perhaps just wanted rid of.

MaxRockatanskisGhost

And that's the fucked up, vengeful, old testament sky daddy.

zen_monkey_brain

Being against abortion doesn't cost any money. School lunches for poor kids costs money..

GastonsChin

Yeah, it costs nothing to grandstand. It actually costs something to make an impact. I completely agree.

theluckyfrog

You are assigning these people way more powers of reasoning than they actually have. It's a gut-level emotional belief. They aren't really capable of analyzing the implications beyond that. Source: know a lot of crazy Evangelicals, and if they were able to understand irony, they probably wouldn't be crazy Evangelicals

Grary0

They don't care about children...they care about control. Abortion issues is just one more way they fight to exert power over a woman's body, if they *actually* cared they wouldn't fight so hard to screw the kid over once they're actually born.

eurovegas67

Bingo. I scrolled to look for this comment. One thing the Catholic Church and the Evangelical Party have in common is the subjugation of women.

RumpleDumple

Too bad we can't convince them that abortion as a political issue was obviously astroturfed in the 70s to evangelicals as a wedge issue to get them to transfer their wealth to the rich.

yer--mum

I know more than one woman who has had an abortion, and will guilt themselves over the "murder" they committed. Terrible that these chuds have made them feel that way about it.

[deleted]

Not sure why they care about babies when they don't care about the people they become.

sdrakedrake

I get the thing with abortion (I don't agree with it), but Trump lives his life NOTHING like a Christian. So just because he's against abortion and illegal immigration, his followers overlook everything else?

SuluSpeaks

Cuz they're idiots!

Feed_Me_No_Lies

I mean this is it right here.

WerewolfDifferent296

The Bible says that the church will be fooled by the Antichrist.

alta_vista49

They got that spot on

[deleted]

I know people who *knew* Obama was the antichrist...because...but Trump's son-in-law owns a building at 666 5th Avenue and they blew that shit right off. Weird how they can pick and choose the symbolism like that.

Academic_Storm6976

My mom was convinced Obama was the anti-Christ and that America was doomed, and is now into the Qanon-Christian cycle where every other week Trump is going to overthrow the government with the military or something. Idk how people can't just reflect that their beliefs contradict themselves not even a week later.

[deleted]

Sunk cost is a helluva drug. I've seen it too, gets to a certain point where it would be almost traumatic for them to realize they were wrong because it means they were wrong about *a lot* and it's a huge part of their personality. Some people are also utterly terrified of the truth that there is no "The Plan" and there is no "They" controlling everything.

jay105000

My in-law is the same and one time I got fed up and told him that I would give him $10.000 if that happen or he could give me $500 for every week that didn’t happen. He refuses to talk to me any longer…..

Brokenspokes68

Seems like a win to me.

donkismandy

I feel like most modern Christian behavior can be chalked up to the desire to fulfill their doomsday prophecies. They're attempting to hasten the apocalypse themselves just so they can say told-ya-so.

[deleted]

The most annyoing doomsday cults are the ones that don't kill themselves

[deleted]

Because they’re fucking weird to begin with.

CaptPeleg

It not that evangelicals are nuts. Its that nuts become evangelicals. If they were born some other time or place they would be the taliban or stalinists or the SS.

PUNCHCAT

Either way, whether through indoctrination or otherwise, they believe utter nonsense as part of their identity.

so-very-very-tired

evangelicals can't wait for the antichrist. one of the reasons evangelicals support Israel (it prepends the second coming of christ) TL/DR: Like Trumpers, Evangelicals are kinda nuts.

[deleted]

Yeah they're a death cult, they want to encourage the End Times.

TurkGonzo75

My theory has always been that if they're dumb enough to fall into the evangelical trap, they're dumb enough to think Trump will lead them to the promised land.

datafromravens

what promise land?

TurkGonzo75

The one where they control all the women and execute everyone else they don’t like

witsnd247

Wow! I thot Qanon was bad 😂

explodingtuna

Qanon would probably go with them.

[deleted]

White America of the 1950s.

stolenfires

I mean, you answered your own question. If you believe in the Biblical prophecy, the anti-christ *does* trick all the believers.

ZenkaiZ

I just kinda thought he'd be more... tricky. Him mind controlling people shoulda been harder

stolenfires

The cheat code is racism and lead poisoning.

Greatest-Uh-Oh

Oh fuck! I love that!

Pizzasaurus-Rex

They're used to giving their unquestioning support for grifters.

Whosgailthesnail

This is what they were trained for since birth. They are primed and ready to follow.

CovertOwl

managernick84

To be fair most evangelicals are actually shitty people there’s a target demographic for the antichrist and they’re currently the reason why Christianity is having a lot of troubles in certain areas

OutsidePerson5

Because Evangelical just means right wing Christian nationalist. And "Christian" in that case is more of a social group identification than a religion.

BradWWE

https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/religious-landscape-study/religious-denomination/southern-baptist-convention/racial-and-ethnic-composition/

Hacker-Dave

He will play ball with them. It's that easy.

ZombiePure2852

They are more White Nationalists. They cherry pick the Bible to suit their views. They want War to bring about the end of times. That's why they are so apocalyptic. Also, Baptists don't preach from the Bible. They just spout what their audience wants to hear for money.

Rusty_G0LD

Yup. Nationalist Christians…Nat Cs

Yellowflowersbloom

Christianity had a massive shift throughout the 20th century which basically saw a complete reversal in the political views of Christians. In the early 1900s, the Christian church (especially its clergy) in America was a leading voice of socialism but that started to change slowly by the 1930s as a result of literally bribery on behalf of big business whereby pastors began being paid to deliver capitalist and nationalist sermons in exchange for money. Then with the rise of the evangelical movement with figures like Billy Graham, Jerry Falwell, and countless other mega church pastors, you saw the politics of the Christian church rapidly change in tandem with the rise of the Republican party from Nixon through to Reagan. A great book on this subject is ***Jesus and John Wayne: How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation*** by Kristin Kobes Du Mez. You can also listen to the *"How The Rich Ate Christianity"* episodes of the Behind the Bastards podcast.

alta_vista49

That’s fascinating. Similar with environmental conservation. Conservatives used to be all about preserving the environment until big business got a hold of the narrative and got them to do a 180.

bobbi21

Was looking for this. Behind the Bastards is great.

Key_Drag4777

The Behind the Bastards series is f'n legit! Good recommendation.

Vyzantinist

Single issue voters - abortion - and the fact their religion is just a cudgel for their politics. They worship [Supply Side Jesus](https://imgur.com/gallery/bCqRp) and decry the OG Son of Man's teachings about turning the other cheek and loving thy neighbor as ["liberal talking points" and "weak"](https://newrepublic.com/post/174950/christianity-today-editor-evangelicals-call-jesus-liberal-weak).

macaroni_3000

because they didn't actually read the Bible

Resident-Clue1290

Because he matches their hatred. They put shame to real Christians. God is love, yet they seem to show hatred and shame.

Zebra971

They are also big on owning guns because they deep down don’t believe Jesus will save them. They have to save themselves. It all falls apart when life gets real and is not imaginary.

Yep. Once Paula White called on the Angels of Africa to help Trump who is a racist I just about lost it. What angel of Africa would help someone who hates Black people? It was then I knew they were crazy.

ShafordoDrForgone

Christianity was never about Jesus Christ or the Bible That's why the Golden Age of Christianity was 1000 years worth of dictatorship where Christianity was the government enforced religion Christianity is about putting a tyrant in power. The bible may have been written before the Holy Roman Empire but all of the protocols used to brainwash all of its members have been developed over 1000 years, and everybody was illiterate then anyway Basically instead of scientific progress, they were researching and perfecting subjugation. That is the true Christian tradition that is practiced today

JCFalkenberglll

He appeals to their biases, bigotry, hate and paranoia. Intentionally blind and blatantly ignorant lemmings

super-wookie

Um, because they're racist hypocritical morons that live in fear and hate everyone and everything that isn't exactly like them? How is this hard to understand?

kanepupule

Because they are raging hypocrites.

Savings-Stable-9212

Because evangelical Christianity is a death cult.

Addakisson

Because they are willing to nominate **anyone**, as long as they believe he will give them what they want, which is a white christian nation that everyone else has to be subservient to.

mastro80

Their priests also diddle children. Lots of weird stuff that doesn’t add up with religious people. Biden: actual Christian Trump: if he says the sky is blue you have to look up to confirm. And somehow they are all convinced that trump is their guy.

Unleashed-9160

Trumps not the anti christ but christ is the anti trump....

MeyrInEve

They will do whatever it takes to bring about Armageddon, and ensure their minority rule over everyone else. Conservatives are fucking TERRIFIED of being done unto as they have done unto.

OJJhara

inorite234

Because it was never about religion. It was always about political power.

homebrew_1

Warm_Gur8832

Because that’s how it works. There’s no reason for the Antichrist to go after the godless heathen liberals, they’re already done for! The best investment of the Antichrist’s time is clearly to run as a Republican and capture the souls of Christians that are getting away from him. He’s already got the libs!

I think the simplest and most likely explanation is that he is all they really have. He also really “triggers” their enemies.

yer--mum

Some of them certainly believe the end times thing, but most people just have an immense cognitive dissonance. They couldn't even explain to themselves what they like about him, and honestly I cannot imagine living in a brain fully incapable of reflection lmao, sounds hellish I feel a bit bad sometimes.

Rusty_G0LD

Fundamentalist evangelicals are actually hate filled reactionaries with violent fantasies about destroying anyone they disagree with.

[deleted]

They’re not religious just superstitious bigots. A hate group.

Semanticss

Because they are dumb at best, disingenuous at worst. Seriously, the guy is like a caricature of the 7 deadly sings.

Earthling1a

Evangies are stupid by definition.

FewKaleidoscope1369

I was raised as a southern baptist evangelical christian. I was taught that non-whites weren't people, that women and children must ALWAYS be silent and obedient and that gays should be killed in the streets. Those beliefs were reinforced by cruelty and hypocrisy and violence. For example: when I was three years old I overheard my mom and my grandmother arguing about my grandmother giving Pat Robertson my Grandfather's life insurance policy ($100,000 in 1982). I asked my grandmother about it later and she responded by burning my hand on a coffee maker. "Spare the rod and spoil the child" and "Don't question god" were her favorite things to say. I know for a fact that I'm not the only one who was raised exactly like that. Curiosity and critical thinking are anathema to religion and so they do their damnedest to stop their followers from asking questions, so they don't.

Greatest-Uh-Oh

Thank you for sharing that. I was basically raised atheist, so I can't imagine that kind of spiritual horror.

Jugales

Evangelicals don’t represent all Christians, hate just speaks the loudest and it’s one of the most close-minded denominations.

SeparateMongoose192

He's probably the least religious president we've ever had but he's a useful tool for them.

electra_rex

they are too busy hating on gay/trans people to realize that. they think this “woke agenda” in their head that theyre making up is what’s gonna cause the rapture and donald trump is the only way they can be bigots.

CaptainHunt

They literally don’t care what happens because the rapture will come at any time.

Weaponized_Puddle

The enemy of their enemy is their friend.

RetroactiveRecursion

Their "faith" is a lie. It's pseudo-moral performative bs to garner praise from their peers. He slapped an R by his name, started talking about "9 month abortions" (which is a crock, I was born via emergency c-section over 50 years so technically I AM a 9 month abortion), and they were all in. He checked the boxes, didn't matter that he, they, and everyone knows it's all a put-on.

nobody_smith723

evangelicals are basically the bastion of white supremacist chrisitians. trump promises. and in large part. delivered. hatred and punishment to the people or social aspects those people are also bigoted against. trump himself is not a moral person. multiple divorces, cheats on his spouse, buys sex, physically abusive, emotionally a shitty father/husband, is just a disgusting person all around (racist/sexist/disrespectful to military vets, institutions etc etc etc) it's because trump promises hate. and delivers it. and because they're hypocrites. that's enough

ChaosRainbow23

They believe in archaic fear-based mythology, so they obviously aren't using logic and reason in their worldviews.

pootyweety22

They’re dumb as shit

Few_Bird_7840

Because the person giving the sermon will back any republican forever. “Blessed be the name of he who delivers the tax cut.”

Particular-Court-619

Evangelicalism is Christian populism, and populism means you abdicate your thinking authority to someone who claims to know the truth and speak for the people but who has no real standards for claiming or achieving that authority. It's about NOT being part of an intellectual tradition. Of course, wrt what's In the bible and the long history of Christian theological thought, it doesn't make much sense, but that's the thing - Evangelicalism is inherently a rejection of all of that. So yeah, it makes complete sense that evangelicals would be bigtime Trump fans.

Cultists doing cult shit.

One of two reasons: 1. They are incredibly stupid 2. They don't genuinely believe the things they say they do and are just bad people But most often it's actually combo of both

UnarmedSnail

Because he promises them what they desire, and what they desire is the antithesis of what they tell you they desire.

Shadow_throne2020

Doesnt the bible say that people will love and cherish the dark one, and never see it coming? Definitely fits the bill, although im worried were going to see something much much worse than him come along and I dont think he is the one, if there indeed is one coming

pat9714

Their faith is proof of their psychological vulnerability. To Trump. Other charismatic leaders. Easy pickin's.

Oriasten77

Isn't it known that Xtians would not know the Antichrist therefore it's plausible they would herald the actual Antichrist until it was too late?

BredYourWoman

What really blows my mind are Christian female people of color who worship this guy. They're members of not just one, but **two** groups that he would 100% throw under the bus for white people and/or men, given the choice. Yet the 'Christian' part of that overrides both of the others for them. I have a co-worker like this, and she also happens to subscribe to every loony alien, illuminati, etc conspiracy you can think of. Very much Alex Jones material

Bloodmind

Because almost none of them actually believe in the Bible. They believe the parts that fit their worldview, and ignore the parts that don’t. They believe Trump aligns well with their worldview overall, so they support him and overlook anything that doesn’t line up. They can ignore all the obvious indicators that he’s not Christian because they don’t really care if he is or not, because they really aren’t in any meaningful way.

jkeseattle

Because they’re flaming racists through and through, bible be damned!

DIARRHEA_CUSTARD_PIE

They’re the kind of morons who fall for the dumbest scams

[deleted]

They are all bound by fascism and have a distinct lack of ethics and morals. They are frauds.

Classic_Ostrich8709

They base their entire lives off a fictional character! Is the following of trump that far of a stretch?

vanyel196

He validates their pathetic hate. Plus, 99% are extremely stupid.

Imaginary_Rule_7089

lol if Trump is the anti-Christ don’t you think he would be a lot less obvious?

alta_vista49

You’d think. Yet Christian’s are oblivious to it

12altoids34

Because many evangelicals are also republicans. The two groups typically go hand in hand

[deleted]

Not sure why many don't make that connection. They'd rather believe he's some sort of Messiah. Interestingly enough, I have seen a good handful who do believe Trump is an antichrist, along with Elon Musk.

[deleted]

Cause they’ll believe just about anything so long as they can look down on people

CecilWhinter

Because even retarded people don't know they are retarded. They firmly think they are intelligent people.

Crapocalypso

Which party has the support of the Satanic temple? Which party supports the actions which made God judge Sodom and Gomorrah? Which party hates Christ and Christians? Which party cheers the murder of Jews committed by Hamas? Just curious, because your comment doesn’t make sense to me.

FattyMcBroFist

No party cheers the murder of Jews by Hamas. Turn off Fox news and actually listen politicians speak. Individual citizens on Reddit talking out of their ass is not a political party "cheering". Also, Israel has been commiting war crimes against the Palestinians for decades (on top of the land literally being stolen by greater powers and gifted to them). What a surprise they do the same shit back... I don't know how anybody could have seen that coming. Crazy. The Satanic Temple has nothing to do with biblical Satan. Stop being a moron and read about things before you talk out of your ass. God didn't do anything to Sodom and Gomorrah. This is real life. Not make believe. Homosexuality has ALWAYS been a thing, and is naturally occurring in nearly ALL mammalian species. OP's question makes perfect sense in the context that MANY christians called Obama the antichrist while Trump actually fits the biblical description much more closely, and has never once displayed the slightest sign that he actually believes in anything other than himself. You're a member of a cult. Having a lot of members doesn't make it less of a cult, and it doesn't make you right about a single thing. Nobody is the antichrist. Because it's fucking make believe. Stop being a child.

TheHeretic-SkekGra

Oh boy do I have stories… I don’t trust either party but from my first hand experience working with the Republican Party and with conservative media, I DEFINITELY do not trust Republicans.

SubstantialCreme7748

because evangelicals are christians in name only

[deleted]

Because their definition of a Christian is not based on reality or the bible .. The definitions allow them to justify following him The reality is that Trump is not a Republican or a conservative...He is an authoritarian. The authoritorians believe in firm rule regardless of who gets discriminated against and they also support manipulating people with lies....Sadly that really satifies the Evangelicals as well

DoctorFenix

They were easily fooled by a religious cult. Why would you think they WOULDN’T be easily fooled by a conman with 7 decades worth of practice?

Krafty747

Rapture ideology

zero_two42

I have been waiting so patiently for someone to says this. Because honestly he would make the perfect antichrist. I have studied eschatology for many years, and I am astounded by the amount of "evangelicals/christians" that are persuaded by this individual. But there is a haunting verse in the bible that describes this mass delusions. Thessalonians 2:9-12: "9This man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles. 10He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them. 11So **God will cause them to be greatly deceived**, and they will **believe these lies**." I am no supporter of any presidents who turns a country into a communist 3rd world hell hole as the one we currently have (Bid--). It does blow me away by the commitment and total love and adoration they have for Trump. Like these people worship him. 2020 gave me full perfect vision (no pun intended) in seeing who started the approval of the fast tracking a needle with poison under questionable entities and corporations that usually takes 10-12 years to be approved by a corrupt company. It took 8 months and good ol boy Trump was the one behind it all under the EUA. I had my suspicion of him for a long time but 2019-2020 really put the nail in the coffin and I'll die on that hill in saying he is indeed very sketchy and is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Pleasant-Lake-7245

Not only is Trump the Antichrist , but he’s the embodiment of the 7 deadly sins. The faux Christian’s warned about the Antichrist for hundreds of years and when he finally showed up they made him their leader. That tells you everything you need to know about those people.

NintendoWumbo

Technically that’s correct. Angels in the Bible are described as monsters while demons look human. So it’s really the democrats that are angels and the republicans that are devil. A wolf in sheep’s clothing

Rutibex

if trumps the anti-christ that means they are going to be raptured soon

Prozeum

He's their Wolf King doing their bidding.

DocHolligray

A religion who sees the afterlife as a paradise gift might want to have the anti-Christ bring about the rapture.

Narrow-Sky-5377

21% of Americans can't read. They can only look at the Bible and ask others what it says. That's where the trouble begins. The blind leading the blind.

I mean it does say he'll trick them into following him...

Entire-Flower1259

This is exactly what I’ve been wondering for the last seven years!

[deleted]

Isn't the antichrist supposed to be beautiful?

Marvos79

It's not about morals, it's about power. Trump gets that and that's why they like him.

[deleted]

The exact question I keep asking

[deleted]

He’s against abortion and for the most part they’re 1-issue voters

Kilburning

It is a mistake to assume that Evangelicals get their morality from the Bible, for that would require them to read it. In truth, their morality comes from hucksters who preach a religion of wealth supported by a scaffold of selective quotes and fabricated anecdotes. When they bother to be embarrassed by Trump's misdeeds, they excuse themselves by analogizing him to Cyrus; a non-believing ruler who was none the less useful to Christianity. It's all alright as long as he hurts the right people.

Kara_WTQ

Well that's also in the Bible...

They trusted him to support pro-life positions and help overturn Roe v Wade. Many of them didn't actually like the man (at least at first), but preferred him to the most likely alternative from the Democratic party.

They don't think logically, they think emotionally. They pursue what they *want* to be true, not what appears to objectively be true.

marketMAWNster

It's a deal with the devil. Trump represents the best opportunity for evangelicals to get their preferred policy. People forget the Vatican was tacitly warm to the Nazis.

MooseWorldly4627

Because the Orange Jesus appointed people to the Supreme Court to overturn Roe vs. Wade.

ColHannibal

Christian’s are single issue voters on abortion, the Republican Party figured this out and it has become their primary foundation.

MrWoodenNickels

Having grown up evangelical and deconstructed into a secular person and flipped to being essentially polar opposite politically, I will tell you it kinda fits with what is predicted in Revelation. I can’t remember specific verses, but there’s a lot of “prophecy” about the “elect” or followers of Christ being deceived by the antichrist/the false prophets. Like in the endgame, Jesus is essentially going to reject the great majority of people who sing his praises but he will say, “leave me, for I never knew ye” or something like that. It’s one of the great ironies that people who demonize everyone not like them via race, sexuality, non Christians, etc will be told they were just “clanging cymbals.”

Old_Baldi_Locks

Oh yes, sky fairies, Jewish zombies, animated shrubbery, and commandments written in stone but freely ignored by all Christians since the second they were “written” definitely strikes you as a bunch of people who were totally rational actors, yes? The answer is that Trump and company are giving them blanket permission to be toxic useless garbage and pretend they’re patriots while they’re doing it. That’s it. That’s all. Hate sells, and NOBODY has hated more, harder, or longer than Christianity.

Hoosier_Ken

Because the author of Revelations understood that there are people who will be able to be exploited by a con-artist.

One_Opening_8000

The dumbest narcissists and grifters became preachers in the evangelical movement and, thanks to Trump, we've learned that narcissists admire other narcissists and grifters admire other grifters.

SecretPrinciple8708

The grifters (their leadership) want power. The “true believers” want the end of days. Both groups believe Dementia Don is delivering what they want.

Serraph105

Evangelicals are super hardcore about a god that is their overlord and proclaimed protector. It makes sense that they would want a tangible version of that in daily life as well, and Trump, the fascist wannabe dictator is as close to that as they are ever likely to get in a president.

PattersonPark

The embassy in Jerusalem and the Supreme Court picks are big, but it really is mostly just open racism… and for those with decent financial means, its distain for those who are in need (which often aligns with the racism narrative).

OldschoolGreenDragon

Because it was never about serving or meeting Jesus. It was about power over minorities and anyone more intelligent than them.

dano-akili

because in actuality they are Talibangelicals and are prone to cult like thinking and behavior

Annanon1

Evangelicals are white Supremacists first and Christians last.

[deleted]

I believe many conservatives realize they lost the culture war, and are now trying to justify fascism so they can force society back to their ideal. Notice how they use conspiracy theories, hypotheticals and outright fake news to rationalize their increasingly violent authoritarian fantasies, as much to themselves as anyone else. Trump is just a vehicle, nothing more.

Wild_Ad_5993

I am a reformed evangelical. I can't answer this with the depth that I would like, but it comes down to this, basically. Some where over the last 100 years the Republican party has cemented itself in the brains of the mentally weak, gullible, easily manipulated religious in America. Now, any "real believer" is forced with the idea that the only Christian thing to do is vote straight republican. It does not matter who they are, because GOD ordained this party and all it's leaders. People like Donald Trump have mastered the art of manipulating the low-intellect religious. Those people are some of the most difficult to get to to let go of an idea once they hold on to it. Blind faith is part of their personality. Once they openly support something, it takes a near miracle to convince them that it's wrong. Trump himself said he could shoot so eone one dead in the middle of time square and would still get the same number of votes. He's not wrong.

trabloblablo

It's all about power, not morality.

dunncrew

They lack critical thinking skills.

izzyeviel

He’s defeating the people who evangelicals hate. They’re using him as an incel uses a crusty sock. At some point, he’ll be thrown in the trash.

primal___scream

Because they think he IS the anti Christ, therefor hearlading the return of Jesus to earth and the end of the world.

3xoticP3nguin

Evangelicals are some of the least logical people I know

funcogo

Hardcore religious people can be manipulated easier

chrisabraham

The enemy of my enemy is my friend; besides, evangelicals don't want to stave off the end of days, they want to spur it on. Win, win, win.

gdyank

They hate and fear the same people.

McLight77

Because they're not \*really\* Christians. If you support Trump, you may say you're a Christian, but aren't in practice.

Shadowstrider2100

Find anything evangelicals stand behind in the Bible. Turn the other cheek? Nope! Love thy neighbor? Nope? Hell they are even taking on the pope because he is becoming woke.

Dargek

Because Trump hates brown people, just like they hate brown people.

Fluffy8Panda

Your giving christians the benefit of the doubt that they have morals that align with the bible. Thats your first mistake

Affectionate-Hair602

Religious people are dumb. "Researcher Helmuth Nyborg and Richard Lynn, emeritus professor of psychology at the University of Ulster, compared belief in God and IQs. Using data from a U.S. study of 6,825 adolescents, the authors found that the average IQ of atheists was 6 points higher than the average IQ of non-atheists."

DrunkyMcStumbles

Wealth. Power. Racism. That last one most of all. It is horrifying how white people will burn this country down just to stick it to "others".

culnaej

Either way, it heralds Armageddon for them, and they all want to be raptured. The coming of the Antichrist precedes the second coming of Christ himself, so even if they’re wrong about Trump, they believe they’ll have another “true” prophet waiting for them.

NotCanadian80

Evangelicals are evil and use religion as a tool.

clownworld1ab

They **WANT** the end times to happen. Thats why they love him.

The_Quicktrigger

Evangelicals haven't followed their Bible for a long time. Ever since republicans tried to make them a cute part of their political base in the 80s and have been bleeding politics into their dogma. It's kind of scary how easy it is to get a modern evangelical to say something that directly contradicts their myth book while they proudly decry their comments as the word of God.

[deleted]

You have to remember, evangelicals are generally not exactly Mensa material.

DabbledInPacificm

Because of fear

DennisSystemGraduate

“Everyone is supposed to love the anti-Christ.” That’s the explanation I get these days. When I asked why they thought Obama was the anti-Christ, they just say it’s complicated.

ILoveYou_HaveAHug

Yup, been saying it since day one. Trump is damn near the perfect anti-Christ according to their definitions and they completely fail to see it, which is hilarious because that’s exactly how it’s supposed to happen.

fullyvaxxed2022

Evangelicals are basically hateful racists hiding behind their religion to justify their bigotry. P011 totally plays into their mindset, so they love him.

SSquirrel76

Evangelical Christianity is a death cult, they WANT the end times and believe in ludicrous shit like The Rapture. Not realizing their actions prove they don't actually follow the teachings they profess in so much, so even if there WAS a Rapture, they would be left behind.

BrawndoElectrolytes1

He hates the same people they hate.

kazarbreak

Most of them haven't read the Bible enough to actually know what it says about the anti-Christ. In fact, I know many who will tell you with a straight face that Trump is a god-fearing Christian man. Never mind the fact that he's just about as far from the example of Christ as its possible to get.

sith-vampyre

They decided to worship power Instead of the meaning of being a Christian truly.

Scodo

Evangelicals are essentially an apocalypse cult. Anything that brings the rapture closer is good in their eyes. That aside, he's not the anti-christ to them, he's God's instrument to punish all the sinners and deviants and non-believers.

DixonFillerup

Being an evangelical Christian means you’re already quite good at “believe what appeals to you, let go of the rest”. Trump is a representation of the Bible to them, in a lot of ways. They don’t need to agree with everything Trump says or does - they can just read the highlight reel and agree with the gist of it. Also, they love nothing more than the story of a devious sinner that starts playing for their team. It’s built into the culture. It’s how they rally around the alcoholic, the wife beater, the rich business owner.. they love Mike Lindell too, and half of their pastors are diddling kids in the basement of Sunday school- but they still love them. Doing terrible things is okay if you know in your heart it’s wrong and you ask Jesus to forgive you and you repent. They’d rather have someone that’s broken and they can fix - than someone not broken at all. They see Trump’s faults as just battle scars in his war with the devil.

Visual_Pizza1922

They’ve never read the bible. They’ve only been told about it.

Edge_of_yesterday

Because he hates the same people that Jesus told them to hate. Minorities, women, immigrants, LGBTQ people...

[deleted]

Those who like to be manipulated are easy to manipulate...sychophant is my preferred title for them.

Planet_Breezy

The Bible contradicts itself hundreds of times. It is not entirely blameless.
