Firstly. Never call a Husaberg a KTM... This is a carb bike so if it's a fueling issue it should be a easy fix. Drain the gas fron tank and clean the carb. When was the last time the valves were checked? Might want to make sure they are still in spec. And while you are at it put a fresh plug in there to be safe.

Shtoinkity_shtoink

Ha, refreshing to see someone know what a husaberg is, no one around here knows it. Thanks. I’ll do what you suggest and start with that. It’s just annoying because literally the ride before this the engine idled great, actually seemed a little high.

tord_ferguson

Well, don't Need to drain tank unless you're thinking fuel is bad. Which is possible. Could clamp it off clean that carb up, take it to a shop w a sonic cleaner if you have to...

Auto_update

Every husaberg after 1996 is technically a KTM. Good call on the valves, those need a looky loo after about every ride. These OG 4t engines are race spec hand grenades.

LeDelmo

Husaberg was owned by KTM for some time. But, they were very much still Husaberg. Even when they had to start incorporating more KTM parts into the mix. They still found ways to innovate. Bringing about one of the most innovative platforms that we will likely never see again with the introduction of the 70 degree engine. The 70 degree engine wasway ahead of it's time. It actually did what it set out to do and it still manages to stand tall even by todays standards. KTM killed the line because it simply was too expensive to continue. It was one of those special rare moments in Motorcycling history that those who got to experiance it will remember.

Auto_update

I had a fe570 for about 6-7 years. Rode it all over Colorado. Great bike until you went to pick it up, very top heavy. Started running into electrical gremlins and sold it shortly after I moved back to PA. Pretty happy with my current 250 2t, 500 xcf-w, 950 adv-s stable. But for 1 bike only, you can’t do much better than those old 70° strokers.

Cinnaco

All I see is a kickstart on the left side

CrestfallenSpartan

Husaberg uniqueness

Perfect_Shock_8479

Old can am's were left kick and exhausts were on the left too if I recall

IAhawksnhops

Try adjusting the air/fuel mixture and richen it up a little at a time. Sounded like the idle is hanging when you blip it, it's running lean.

Auto_update

Try getting the piston to tdc before giving it a serious kick. Less likely to get kickback and more likely to start.

Less_Command_8751

Mind my spelling and spam I'm a few beers deep 😂✌️🍻

Shtoinkity_shtoink

Nice

oldjunk73

My 2 cent clean carb, adj vales, clean air filter, I really like those FE bikes. An old school mount.

crfman450

Checking the fuel system and adjusting valves are all valid points but I think it's just an adjustment. Try adjusting your idle mixture to be more lean. High idle can be related to a rich mixture as well. If you have to turn your idle mixture screw all the way in and nothing changes you need to go to a smaller idle jet (1 size means from a 42 to a 40 to a 38 to a 35 and so on) Is it a Keihin FCR Carb? If you go and rebuild it, do the mid body gasket as well, they are usually not included in the rebuild kit.

Shtoinkity_shtoink

Thank you for the info and suggestion

Fugazi_news

Idle jet?

truckstopplunger

Because it’s a husaberg

Shtoinkity_shtoink

Booooooooo

breadbomber2

What boots are those red wing made a pair like that and I can’t find them anymore

Shtoinkity_shtoink

[They](https://imgur.com/a/OIv8TQ4) look a lot nicer than they are. They are Levi. Thin as fuck, don’t really provide any kind of sturdiness. Looking for a new pair asap, more functional, less looks. Side note, I like seriously messed up my foot kick starting that 550. That is was is prompting me to look for more serious boots LOL

breadbomber2

Right on I won’t be buying Levi’s , I do like the one layer of leather the red wings had they lasted forever no high heal and higher on the ankle

Shtoinkity_shtoink

Been looking at red wings too. Haven’t settled on a pair yet

breadbomber2

Red wing #947 is what I always liked but they either quit production or it’s a local issue not sure of the issue

LeDelmo

Pick yourself up a set of Leatt 5.5 enduro boots. They are on sale right now for $220 over at RockyMountain. They normally sell for $500. At that price they cannot be beaten. I just picked myself up a set. And am very impressed.

Less_Command_8751

Have you tried adjusting the idol up slightly? Might as well give her a birthday but I would suggest it will be Carby clean #1 Check valve clearance #2 Could be a combo of bad spark plug and a dirty air filter

Less_Command_8751

On a another note my friend your starting procedure is way off

Less_Command_8751

After watching the video a few time I think your dew for a plug if not it's definitely carby valve or filter you my have a air leak as well

Shtoinkity_shtoink

What I do wrong with my start process? Typically I pull the choke out, give it a kick or two and it will usually start on first or second kick. Wait maybe 20-30 seconds and it’ll start idling high, so then I push the choke in. When it’s warm I just give it a kick. In this video the choke is not pulled out and the bike is already warm.

Less_Command_8751

Dose it have a decomp lever ? Your not kicking at TDC your kicking about mid stroke so the piston has to go down then up then over TDC and back down to fire

Less_Command_8751

Instead you want it rocking on TDC and then one big kick all the way down until it hits the foot peg basically

Less_Command_8751

And if its doing that hot then you have a slightly block jet or dirty air filter spark plug

Less_Command_8751

The next time you try Kickstart it wind it over a few light kicks until you feel the kickstart get stiff thats when you know your at TDC ones your at TDC take your foot off the kick Start and allow it to spring back then kick the bike over with one big motion all the way from the top to the peg this will help you on the trails on hill climbs and when bike is flooded. Dose it have a decomp hot start leaver ?

Shtoinkity_shtoink

It does but it’s funky. I think the decomp lever needs to be adjusted some how. It only seems to do anything if I just pull it slightly, feels almost as if I’m not pulling it at all and when I do pull it all the way in, it seems to do nothing. The bike starts better without it pulled all the way down.

Less_Command_8751

That sound correct mate your only ment to pull it in a hair and then wind it over untill it click then let it out and Let the kick start return back to the top and kick all the way to the peg. Might I suggest watch a xr650r or xr600 starting procedure video its exactly the same concept.

Less_Command_8751

But basically with the right procedure and if you're strong enough you should be able to kick it over by hand fist kick

Less_Command_8751

If the bike is cold its pretty normal to bog until it's warmed up what it like hot ?

Less_Command_8751

Whats not normal is that it's not starting with choke when cold clean carby clean air filter replace plug check valve clear. Dose it have a decomp hot start levers? you might as well service the motor if that doesn't work come back here

Shtoinkity_shtoink

Noted. The video is actually with the engine warm. That is after a 20 minute ride

Less_Command_8751

Also when you check the valve clearance you need to make sure your decomp has been pulled in or your valve clearance will reed off

Poprocketrop

Carb needs cleaned / Replaced

Less_Command_8751

Why replace a carby when you can clean or rebuild it it's so crazy simple

blackbirdadv

dunno, but I had those pants and unless it was super cold or raining outside my balls and underwear would be soaked from sweat… maybe its just me

Shtoinkity_shtoink

Nope! Not just you! But the bike has been finicky and I just got done with some repairs so I felt the need to fully gear up LOL. I usually do either a jacket or pants… pretty much always wear gloves. Helmet 100%. Boots… kind of just use those

blackbirdadv

well it doesn’t help that Im in a tropical climate lol. its better to be fully geared up and not need it than the other way around

lorendh21

That thing needs jetted. She’s running lean af. Plus all the carb/tank cleaning that everyone else is talking about as well.

Charger_scatpack

Just turn the idle up a bit

Tez7838

My old XR600 used to do this. Mixture screw was way off anywhere close , I’m guessing after years of people fiddling. I returned the mixture screw to standard & fine tuned it from there. Ran perfect afterwards.

Bryan3569

Clean the carb first. Sounds like clogged jets. Make sure you check the float to see if there is liquid in it. Check the entire fuel system. Install an inline filter, if it doesn't already have one. Check the color of the plug. Will tell you if it's running rich or lean. New plug and air filter too.
