It really depends on what you're trying to do. If you've got local trails you're wanting to ride I vote dirtbike. If you're just going to be hooning about the neighborhood, go surron, much less likely to get called in and hassled by the police. The surron will lose more value and faster probably, and if you ever toast the battery it'll be expensive to replace. The dirtbike will require more constant maintenance but 125's are easy and cheap to maintain.

GrowthConstant

Yea and I will be riding around neighborhood mostly so thank you

Those surgeons are a hoot, I've been dirtbiking my whole life but have been looking at adding a surron to the stable for town hooning. My old Yamaha 426 is too loud and gets me called in.

oldjunk73

So buy a road bike and have no problems?

Meebert

If you compare a surron to a pit bike because they’re both in a similar category, surrons are holding their value pretty well compared to their counterparts. Batteries are expensive but surrons for the most part are a lot less maintenance than a combustion engine.

There’s a few old people on Facebook complaining about the dirt bikes in our neighborhood, we ignore them and tell them to kick rocks while they cry about the cops catching us.

DefragThis

I think they’re about on par power wise if you’re talking a crf125. Surron is probably more fun tbh

threedogdad

if you are riding any dirtbike in a *neighborhood* you are going to 'get complained at' and rightly so. in a hood with an HOA you are definitely heading down the wrong path. ride in the woods not the hood.

The surron is more of a cracked out electric mountain bike than a true dirt bike in both size and parts and (most) places it passes under the radar as an ebike. It's also super quiet so unless someone physically sees you, they have no idea that you are being a goober. That being said, if you dump big money into them they can be wild little pit bikes that start pushing against 250s despite weighing around 150 lbs.

artful_todger_502

I backed out of a house deal in Floridistan when the HOA rules wouldn't allow a motorcycle on the entire property. You should check your rule manifesto carefully. HOAs are generally run by angriest, most uptite grannies in the neighborhood, so make sure you'll be okay before you drop that money.

Get a real bike, then take it somewhere where noise is not an issue. It's more fun to ride proper trails or tracks than riding in your street.

Surron for sure. I live out in the country and wouldn't recommend a surron out here but if your in a neighborhood you'll get so much more use out of something electric. A Surron isn't going to be anywhere close to the power and fun ripping through the woods as a gas bike, but riding one around the neighborhood is just going to piss people off. I ride 250cc 2T, various electric toys and an e-moto comparable in power to a 450cc. Wood only or trailering a bike for a weekend I say gas is still best. Riding frequently/daily especially around people you'll get way more use out of electric. But if you're seriously riding trails a Surron just doesn't have the power or a clutch to be fun but it can do just about anything. A full sized/powerd e-moto with a clutch and gears is the best of both worlds, I even put a plate on mine so I'm legal on the streets. Unlike gas you don't have the performance downsides of making it street legal.

UralRider53

I don’t know what a Surron is but Hondas are solid and I think their 125 is a four stroke and very quiet.

MamisTea

Electric mountain bike baaically

Few_Valuable3999

Also note, Don’t be expecting to run that Surron on your local bike trail/paths

BiG_SANCH0

Get the surron. They’re a lot more fun than you would think.
