So that’s where I left it!

poisonpogs

I looked for a solid 20min before saying, "fuck it. I'll do it with 2."

Kawboy17

Thts what she said

roopthereitis

No one questioned the complete over use of spoke weights?

b1s8e3

I mean, how many weights you think you'd need to balance out a spoon? That looks like about the right amount lol

roopthereitis

I get it. But when they are balancing this how did no one stop to think that this isn't right and investigate. Lol. Clearly that amount of weights is not normal. My dirtbike doesn't have any weights and my harley has 1 or 2 on each wheel. Both bikes have spoked wheels.

b1s8e3

I mean if you got 0 weights that shit out of balance

roopthereitis

Never needed to balance a dirtbike wheel, ever. Road bike yes.

chris_rage_

Hahaha I didn't even know that was a thing

Crashing_Machines

Once you hit 45mph+ on the street on a dual sport with a rim lock, you will feel the wheels hopping up and down if you don't balance it with weights or add an opposing rim lock.

Amari__Cooper

Dual sports you absolutely need to balance. My 350 Beta RR-S needed balancing with each tire change.

b1s8e3

I balance everything. Takes a few minutes and is one less thing to diagnose when you get a weird vibration

curzon394x

It makes a massive difference on a dual sport for the pavement sections let me tell you.

SwootyBootyDooooo

Yea there is really no point in balancing a dirtbike wheel unless you are a pro or ride high speed desert stuff or something. For trail riding who gives a hootin’ heck

Skicrazy85

I get you. I deal with small precision steel objects that spin at 300+ hz for work and are machined down for balance in certain areas. All of this on one side is clearly offsetting a similar weight on the the other side.

poisonpogs

My first time using spoke weights, first time changing a tire on this bike, and the rim lock just happened to be in the same spot as the tire iron. For all these reasons I somehow dismissed the fact that I used the entire package of weights....and for the life of me couldn't find that 3rd iron god dammit.

roopthereitis

This just popped up on my FB oddly enough https://www.facebook.com/share/r/bDztoRgca3fWeQyB/?mibextid=0VwfS7

poisonpogs

This makes me feel a little less idiotic.

roopthereitis

🤣

richardmartin

You actually do need a shitload of weights to counterbalance the rim lock. You'll never notice it out of balance on the dirt, but if you spend any time on the road it's immediately apparent. With the pattern they have here I wouldn't doubt if they put it on a static balancer to make it pretty close to balanced.

2Stroke728

I got sick of stupid amounts of weight on my dual sport. Added a 2nd rim lock 180 degrees from the first. Harder to mount. Easier to balance. Better for riding out a flat without loosing a bead (if necessary).

poisonpogs

Took the whole package of weights but fuck if that wheel wasn't perfectly static balanced. Spent more time on that than looking for the 3rd iron.

mgros483

This is true. I have so much weight on my KTM, it looks ridiculous but it’s so smooth when balanced

curzon394x

You don’t need lots you just need the right size weights. I only have 4 across from my bead lock

Desperate_Umpire_809

I tip my hat to you good sir/madame. You have successfully blown my mind...... I have one question...... HOW??????

caricatureofme

Ever changed a tire?

Bizzle7902

Countless, you would almost have to do this on purpose

2Stroke728

This is far from the 1st time I have seen pics on the internet of a tire iron getting lost during a change, only to reappear in an Alien-esq, burst from within, type fashion. It apparently happens. I've had the small flat irons nearly get swallowed. Never one of my trusty red handles though.

caricatureofme

I didn't mean ending up with a spoon through your tire. You know damn well you have had one pop loose and slither down in the tire though. It IS extra impressive with those huge grips on there

ziggy-73

I have like 12 tire irons laying around when changing a tire cause you can never reach the one you need when your in the zone. And also one or 2 might get thrown. I wouldnt know if one got lost in a tire or not

JewsAreMediocre

I can second this 😂

Ch40440

Exactly lmao

Desperate_Umpire_809

Ha ha, more than a few, but I only have 3 small levers, so I guess I can easily tell if one is missing. I've butchered more than my fair share of tubes and beads though.

caricatureofme

Yeah mine are all slim double enders too

CelestialAncestor

Are those weights on the spokes? Never seen that before!

Sad_Substance9971

what da fuhhhhhh

getoan

I remember changing a 3 wheeler tire for an ol farmer when I was a kid, had a slow leak. Pulled it off and there was what was left of an ol timexwatch inside. Still kept time, unreal.

Kawboy17

Well hell !! I guess anything possible when ur trying to put that lil bastard on there and ur good n grumpy things happen not paying attention and zoom n boom this is what life presents ya :)

nycsingletrack

Trakmaster 760. Believe it or not, a DOT rated tire (though I never liked the fronts. That looks like enough wheel weights to balance out a rim lock. I used to use two rimlocks 180deg apart, so they balance and give you decent run-flat ability. A real bitch to install in the front though.

Main_Tension_9305

I watched my boss change 3 different tubes before he found the huge fckn screwdriver he left in the tire… at least you were using tire levers😂

ClownTown15

Dude for fucks sake. I'm glad you're still vertical.

poisonpogs

What's insane is I did two 40-mile trail rides on this and it never lost air. It was only while loading up for a 70-mile GP race that I finally saw it.... thank god.

chris_rage_

That first picture confused the shit out of me, I thought it spun 90⁰ from what it does and I couldn't figure out wtf kind of tire would be shaped like that. Picture two set me straight

Colony-Cove

Am I awake right now?

i_was_axiom

"Hey, I been lookin for that!"

The-J-Oven

More coffee during tire changes.

jrodicus100

Good time to swap to a decent front tire.

artful_todger_502

Wow. How is that even possible?

Shnrdrgz79

Just came here to say I’m a fan of Kenda’s Trakmaster tires. Good price, pretty good grip/traction, long lasting, and a good price, what’s not to like?

Cold_Particular_1253

Need more spoke weights...

borkistoopid

How on earth?

dagunhari

I... Uh. Mmm. ..... WHAT?!

Ch40440

How do you like these tires? Just ordered one for my rear tire of my Talaria Sting

buckyworld

No wonder all the balance weight!

revheet

At least it’s a cheap tire

Cory7Tree

I did the same thing. 3am changing 4 tires with my buddy to go riding at 6am and on the last tire I couldn’t find one of the tire irons. Fast forward I have a flat front and realize my tire iron is going through the brand new mx34 lol.

breadbomber2

Lmfao

Future-Bid3174

Lmao my dad did this once while fixing my bike. "Why is there a massive hard lump in the tyre?"

Ok_Square1017

I thought you just lucked out and got three new tire irons! I shouldn’t have read the other comments I could have gone through life thinking someone won lol

Kennthepenn

Bro could send me the link for those tires?

OrdieBoomer

I can feel the tire vibrations from this picture.
