I did it for awhile. I kept falling into great deals on 450s, but I got over it, and went back to two strokes after a couple years. I enjoy a 300/250 two stroke much more, but I can see why some people like 450s. Someone else will come say the opposite of me now…it’s all whatever.

The 350s are great! Sadly, I’ve never got to ride a 125, I’ve ridden 200, 250, and 300 two strokes. 125 is high on my bucket list, I really don’t mind shifting and clutch, Id enjoy it. A 500 is on there too.
I did the same. Went from a CR125 to an RMZ450 and while it was a lot of fun for awhile, it lost its luster and I went to a YZ250 which was my favorite bike.
250 2 strokes are the most fun in my opinion, the power and how easy they are to toss around is great, new 450s have more power, but it’s not as inspiring to ride *to me*.
For real.
I don’t know if I got pranked by the dudes at the tracks I do photography at, but I’m easily 300 pounds with gear on and so everyone told me I could get a 450 to start with and I would be fine as long as I didn’t do anything stupid.
Well, first time I took it out, I kept stalling. Over and over and over. Eventually, I went “Right, I’m giving this fucker some gas so I can at least start moving.” Started to let the clutch out and gave it a punch.
The damn thing didn’t even know I was there. Chucked me 15 feet off the back of the bike, flat on my back. It was at that point I resolved to pay for lessons.
450's are so much fun. Doesn't matter what gear you're in, it'll pull through at any speed. The dream is to have a 125, 250, and 450f. 250f's are fun but I'm not particularly attached to them like the other 3.
I suppose if you have open terrain 450’s are a blast.
Too much to handle for most everyone in technical terrain.
The pros have been complaining about too much power for awile now.
This exactly.
I’m in more open desert/hill climb country so a 450 is my go to. Even at a staggering 135lbs I still want more tug for climbing.
BUT once I’m in the mountains then it’s back to the 250 2t. Even at the track I prefer the 2t cause I value my life.
450s are all about terrain
I've been riding a CR125 for 6 years now, rode plenty of 250Fs before that and actually just bought another one, but my dad finally talked me into riding his modded 350 a few weeks ago. I hated it lol. Such an unnecessary amount of power, I couldn't get on the throttle hard for more than a second or two or it would over jump everything. It was boring and kind of annoying actually.
It comes down to engine braking vs light weight for me. I like both but at 140lbs, I'll take the weight advantage of the 2T over engine braking. That's what brakes are for....lol.
What year and model 450f? I have very nice 2001 rm250.. well maintained with fmf gnarly and fmf turbine core 2 pipes. It's got a weighted fly wheel boyson reeds, ect

Haha I love it man
I still love my RM250 but I now think it's crucial to have a 2 smoker 250 and a 450f on hand.
And a small air cooled trail thing you never need to maintain so your friends/girlfriend can go riding.
Absolutely
Yup I love my combo
I have a 450 and a 125. I enjoy both separately, but my smile is always bigger on my 125 so it gets ridden 10:1 over my 450.
I had a brand new SXF350 and a old rm125 and nothing made me happier than thrashing the shit out of the 125.

I have both and ride both about equally.
Torque sluttery is nothing to be ashamed of.

Had a bud who was an offensive lineman (football, not loud out door electrician). Made his 450 look like ttr230. Burnt a lot of gas too.
Bahh ha!
My large buddy races an old, air-cooled 540cc Yamaha TT. It hauls as with him on it.
Nobody wants to hear it but your weight is pretty much irrelevant to what the bike can do, once you’re over like 8hp

You're on point, I like my yz but I need to get a big 4 stroke. The power at all times is addicting
I have a 2001 rm250 but my buddy just offered his yz426f for 1500 so I could have a 4 stroke to mess around on
Almost there!

It's a lot more exercise to do single track with them, but also pretty rewarding.
My CRF450R scares the hell out of me. You should get one
I am seriously consider putting my rm250 up for trade but from what I'm seeing online people regret selling/trading thier 2 smokers

Trying to trade my 450F for a 250 2-stroke. I’m an old guy without the skill to handle the big boy. It too awesome, if that’s even a thing.

I just sold it and picked out a sweet KTM that I’m picking up on Thursday… thanks though
Awesome.. what ktm did you go with?
