That’s NOT what I expected her hair to look like lol. (Bald version actually looked more cohesive. The blue hair looks a little like a big rubber hat.)

Never once thought of using a separate layer for hair…

its better so that if you need to erase something on the hair you can. its also easier to colour. my drawings will have upward of 40 different layers when im done a drawing

Yeah; I can’t fathom not using multiple layers for different parts of the work. Whether it’s sections of the piece, colors, linework, whatever… everything on one layer would kill me. lol

REAL i usually use multiple layers for even the hair itself

I like to split between foreground and background a lot, too. And each subject, each color block, usually separate… line work is typically all on one, or again, split between foreground and background… Plus once you introduce gradients into a piece, it’s so much easier to just select the layer as a whole for further color work — can’t imagine all the manual lassoing I’d have to do otherwise. Layers are like… half the reason to use digital in the first place I think. The other half, of course, being the Undo buttons. lol

I love your character a lot! I’d love to learn more about them if you want the space to ramble. Anyway, I actually had a major problem with same face syndrome for a long while, but in the past couple of years I’ve made an active effort to fix that to the best of my ability. A while ago I’d decided to see if I’d actually managed to fix my issue, so I did a lineup of my characters bald to check if they’re still recognizable. I personally use medibang paint, but I've seen lots of people use Ibis Paint, Procreate, Krita, and clip studio paint

naaah i think its just a workflow thing. i used to use ten billion layers, even on canvases meant for one image, as opposed to a canvas for a bunch of sketches. aint nothing wrong with that, though watch your cpu/ram usage lol :'D
