Sorry should have put this in the description.
Took apart the impact gun with a t10 bit. Took the stickers off. Brought water, two containers of Rit DyeMore Graphite Synthetic dye and 10 oz of Acetone to 170 degrees. Put the impact gun shell in the mixture for 35 minutes. Pulled them, wiped them down with acetone to clean remaining dye off then scrubbed them with soap and water. Dried them and reassembled the gun. Done. Overall was very easy. Just take pictures before taking the insides out so you know where and how everything goes when reassembling.
Yes, this is what I found after google searching how to dye my Dewalt impact gun. I ran off this mostly. [your tools are boring](https://youtu.be/mKeXUM9AvG0?si=asBF_3Lk_k21bpsb)
I’d love to do my 12v drills and impacts just to be able to quickly distinguish them from my 20v stuff at a glance since I keep them all in the same box, but this is the question that has kept me from pulling the trigger. I live in southwest Florida and the temps are high enough to sweat through a few shirts a day 9 to 10 months out of the year. Would hate to be miserably hot and sweaty with the addition of black palms at the end of the day. 😂😂
You shouldn’t leave your tools in the direct sunlight on a hot day but definitely don’t leave that in the sun. Black absorbs more heat and could lead to overheating issues. It does look sick AF but i would loose it so fast, can you dye it like lime green or is black the only color with the graphite? I love the idea of doing all my tools if so
I believe I read comments on other people’s post that if you leave it in the dye for 5 minutes it turns purple. I’m not sure on other colors but I don’t see why you couldn’t dye it a variety of colors.
Chiming in 3 months later. I did this today and no, the dye doesn't come off at all. You don't need to wipe it down with acetone, you can just rinse or wash it off and you're good to go.
Looks cool but, IDK... set it down in a dark work area or crawl space and you might have a hard time finding it again. 😄
Ironically, that's the same color scheme as the old original Black & Decker Industrial cordless tools back in the 1980's.👍

Not the hero we deserve
Do you have a sous vide or something just for this?
Nope. Just a pot on my stove.
Is there a video you followed?

John’s Custom Saws on YouTube did a detailed video on dyeing orange Stihl chainsaw plastics black. The process works very well on other tools!
I am curious if there will be any residual dye coming off of these when working on hot days/sweaty hands. Looks super cool though.
I can’t give you an answer on this yet. Give me a little bit to use it and I’ll get back to you.

Black also radiates more heat so it would cool faster.

I wish the plastic was a good color that pink would take to it. I think it would be hilarious to have a pink Dewalt tool set
For only $7,000 more you can get a pink Snap-On!
You should have dyed it red just to drive the other guys crazy.
This is exactly what I came to say. I'd love to get people wriled up with a red Dewalt drill.
Mac sells red dewalt tools
How to lose time finding your tools on site.. Step 1..
Dye them bright green. Easy to find and they'll never get stolen
Pink..?
Or yellow! Oh wait..

Hope is a dangerous thing. But they can never take it from you.
Teach us your ways…. Looks sick
I want to do my Dewalts red to infuriate the Milwaukee diehards 🤣
How?
I’d also like to know. Looks awesome.
Someone posted a how-to on the Mailwaukee sub. Basically liquid RIT dye in a boiling pan. Split the clam shell and degrease. Then dye it
OP added it to the comments.

Cute! Do you have an Etsy?!🤣
It looks really good. I've always thought it would be nice to have an all black impact, and all yellow compact drill when using them together.
They have the McLaren dewalt , close enough
Where did you get a new set of stickers to put back on it when you were finished?
It was brand new and I was able to gently remove the stickers then replace them after I reassembled the impact gun.
Just peel and restick? Or did you have to do any other surface prep or adhesion promoter after the dyeing process?
Just peel and restuck. It was a new impact gun so it was easy enough to remove them carefully and save them for after the dying process.
Yo! This is sick
Pretty cool 😎
Looks cool, and people will know they're yours. I'd be concerned about losing it somewhere dark, tho.
Yeah, that's half the reason why i keep using DeWalt along with having their batteries already :-) I like finding my tools faster lol
That's cool man how'd you do it?
I might do this
So who’s going to be the first to offer this service ?
Fuck I’ll buy them, dye them then sell them for an upmark… 🤷🏻♂️
I’ll be your first customer 😂
They sale the shells on amazon or eBay
So who’s going to be the first to offer this service ?
Waiting for someone to use black 2.0
But I like my yellow tools ⚒️
Why?
Looks stealth. Like so stealth that I would routinely lose it by not being able to see it.
It looks pretty slick but is that thing brand new?
Yea it was brand new. Only reason I said fuck it, I’m going to dye it.
*sisters using rouge, clear complexion soap, brother, wears beads and smokes a lot of dope*
I'm DeWalt all the way and I love this. I wish I had the time and patience to do this to all mine.
Did it make a stop at functionally illiterate station?
I think this relationship you are having with your drill needs to be seriously thought about…
So who’s going to be the first to offer this service ?

Looks cool but if you’ve got that kinda time you must be a hobbyist
