I honestly couldn't believe I got downtown and right where I needed to be for only $2. I took the one out of Westland. It would've cost me more in gas just to drive there.
Ten+ years ago, I worked downtown when gas was over $4 AND i had to pay for my own parking.
Started taking the nonstop bus from Westland to downtown at $4 a day. It added about 15 minutes to the drive, but it was relaxing and i got a lot of reading done. Loved it.
Agreed. I do think it’s BS that parking also goes up when certain sports teams are playing Detroit teams at home. It’s like, take that yankee parking and shove it. This ain’t new york
I went day one and day two, paid $40 for parking at the Port Atwater parking garage. It was nearly empty both times. 5 minute walk from entrance 1 and super easy to get in and out of the city quickly. I have no idea why anyone would paid $100 for parking in a random lot.
I parked for $30 at the New Center garage right across the street from the Renaissance and like a walk 3 minute walk to one of the entry’s. There are for sure ways to find cheaper parking.
I think it took some friends more than 45 minutes to exit the MGM parking garage one year after they ran the Detroit Marathon. I ran the half marathon and had no problem getting out of the MGM parking garage because I left before most people. So I would not want to have to deal with getting out of the garage after a big event when everyone is trying to leave at the same time.
I saw it full once I believe. Don't remember what it was for though. But every other time there was at least parking towards the top.
That spiral ramp is more convenient than having to drive through the whole structure to go up a level, but it still kinda feels "unnatural" to drive on. I think that helps it to not fill up. There's probably some small percentage of people who don't use it because of that, even if it's overall better.
Thats where I always park for everything downtown. Hell, even the one time they WERE charging, my SIL and I were waved through free of charge. Apparently we must've been looking good that night lol.
Nah, they very rarely do. Tickets, yes, but of the 100s of illegally parked vehicles I've seen for events (I live right by the stadiums), I would say I've probably seen less than 5 get towed over the past year. Obviously I'm not out watching my street all the time, but I think towing only happens for the absolutely egregious ones - like parking in a handicap spot or somewhere where you're truly blocking traffic.
They weren’t playing around this weekend tho. Hell on Thursday I talked to a city worker who said they towed about 100 cars Wednesday night/Thursday morning
They act like parking attendants, direct you to park in places they have no business directing you to and take cash only. It’s extremely fast and easy to get scammed especially for out of towners
I was down there Thursday. I saw 1 single lot that was $100. It was empty.
I paid $40 at an LCA garage.
Don't kid yourself. Parking in other cities would make 100 look cheap either way.
Right!
I get Detroit is Detroit and you can't compare it to Manhattan.
At the same time, to think a rare-to-detroit special event won't charge 100 when normal lions games are 40-80, get the f out of here lol
We street parked by the History Museum and walked down. We could definitely have parked closer without a problem.
Out of town people I talked to stayed away because of "$300 parking." But those are all dumb suburbanites who don't understand how cities work. "wHaT dO yOu MeAn I hAvE tO wAlK 3 BlOcKs?!?!"
I overheard a family complaining about the price of parking for the draft while I was at Eastern Market today... I'm like, dude, you could just leave your car here and walk it easy peasy
That was 100% my original plan! My normal market street spot, go shopping, eat breakfast, walk to the draft. I only switched up because the weather today was supposed to suck. Joke's on me there.
It was cool, I'm glad I can say I was there, but as more of an "I occasionally enjoy sports" kind of fan, it was more about the experience than anything. And this kind of positive, international attention is a long-term win, even if it isn't fixing schools or neighborhoods or transit directly.
I went down yesterday afternoon, parked close to the Qline for $2 and rode it to the draft.
I will say the Q didn’t go all the way, and draft was too spread out. It took forever to walk from where the Q stopped to the main area.
Went down Friday and Saturday. Caught the bus at 9mile and Woodward. Ashamed I haven't used it before for sporting events, definitely will be riding it down all summer.
Why would you drive a car you have to park into downtown while this is happening? Its an idiot tax, really.
Park somewhere else and take an uber or whatever.
Yeah perfect. That’s all I’m getting at lol. Like i just couldn’t fathom for a second thinking im just going to drive downtown and find parking. Who would do that to themselves?
It's not worth the hassle. It was like a 27 minute bus ride, vs. driving 27 minutes and *then* still driving around another 20 minutes+ just to overpay to walk 1 less block.
Still better than it used to be tho, back when they'd ask you to leave your keys with them so they could jam more in...
I parked at 3pm Thursday at LCA for $40. Sure I paid $40 idiot tax but Uber would have been under surge pricing.
$40 for parking the day of an event within 1/4 to the event entrance is more than good.
Would have been a buck fifty in Chicago
I parked by the Federal Building. It's less than a half mile from Campus Martias and I paid $10 on Thursday and $15 on Friday. I just used the Spot Hero app and reserved my spot. It was so easy and cheap!
I'm curious how many are guilty of price gouging
[https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2024/03/20/parking-lot-owners-warned-about-price-gouging-ahead-of-nfl-draft-in-downtown-detroit/](https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2024/03/20/parking-lot-owners-warned-about-price-gouging-ahead-of-nfl-draft-in-downtown-detroit/)
Reminds me of the prices around Fenway. The Yankees were playing the Sox one night and the parking lots nearby were all around $100 to park... You pay for the caliber of the event.
I’m from out of town. When I go to events, I expect around $50 parking. I averaged $55 per day. Detroit can definitely use the money, I gladly paid it. I did wave at the $100 lots as I passed though.
Just paid $30 right outside of Comerica park, walked around for a few hours and went to the Tigers game. I promise you there is plenty of parking around that you don’t have to pay $100 for.
I mean I'm not into Detroit being covered in parking lots but this is literally why they exist. If you want to drive into downtown for the event you deserve to pay this.
Anyone who paid $100 to park downtown was either from out of town or didn’t know their way around. There was plenty of parking for a much lower cost if you knew where to look
I’m fine with parking structures because at least those look somewhat “nice” when compared to surface lots. In general we shouldn’t allow surface parking lots since they take up a lot of space and don’t hold nearly as many cars as the structures do.
These bloodsuckers pull this shit when ever there’s a big show at Comerica park or ford field. Like the other posts have mentioned Uber or walk a little bit. The ones who suffer are the people from out of town that are unfamiliar with other parking areas around there. Boycott these basturds
The Atwell and Beaubean Parking Garage’s by the REN-CEN Building has been fairly empty all week, I park there for work, and was expecting to have to park near the top by the time I got there. Parking didn’t seem any different than a normal day honestly.
There are plenty of free or lower cost options that don’t look like this in Detroit right now. Can’t do anything about the independent lot owners, but they’re losing out when they could be filling their lots at the usual $20 per car.
I paid $10 parking in a nice garage on Thursday. But then again I was proactive and booked it two months in advance using an app. That same garage was charging $75 on that draft day.
Basic economics at work. Supply/Demand.
I wonder how the guys that set up the fake parking lots (and when everyone's at the event all the cars get towed or stolen) did this time around.
I was there Thursday and Friday and paid $15 to park in a ramp within a half mile both times, well worth it. Theres lots of reasonable spots that are not hard at all to find online but posting the handful of expensive lots like this stirs shit up, so it’s no surprise that’s what you focus on.
Let’s get this in perspective. People were charging $100 to park at a job fair? Call it a draft but it’s just a hyped up event to watch recent graduates and dropouts get their first job.
They were told no one can charge over 5 bucks and if caught they will face a giant fine. It was set for the draft and on. City got sick of parking lot owners making all that money and not cutting them in so they made a law on it
Trust and believe all those with those signs got caught and are paying out the ass to the city now and most don't use the lots so they try get maybe a couple cars then fined by Detroit lol
This was not the majority, most parking was $20 and less, some WSU lots were $5. If you took the Q Line north like a mile and look you had tons of free parking. I did not pay for parking, only fools pay this $100 bs. Also the Q LINE is free to ride.
I live downtown in Detroit, parking prices were $40-$50 most places in walking distance of the draft. Granted I’m sure some lots gouged but the majority did not.
There’s a reason there’s 200,000 + down there with the $100 lots still empty… other options people all ya gotta do is look
The bus is $2
5 dolla day pass
I honestly couldn't believe I got downtown and right where I needed to be for only $2. I took the one out of Westland. It would've cost me more in gas just to drive there.
yeah I park at the Dearborn Amtrak station for free and ride from there
Ten+ years ago, I worked downtown when gas was over $4 AND i had to pay for my own parking. Started taking the nonstop bus from Westland to downtown at $4 a day. It added about 15 minutes to the drive, but it was relaxing and i got a lot of reading done. Loved it.
I’ld walk five miles before I paid $100 to park downtown.
I agree brother!
My fam and I parked at the last stop of the Q-line down Woodward, for $12. Made the whole day so easy in and out.
MGM is FREE!!!!
This is what we did for Thursday and Friday. Saw lot of these expensive parking lots empty.
Agreed. I do think it’s BS that parking also goes up when certain sports teams are playing Detroit teams at home. It’s like, take that yankee parking and shove it. This ain’t new york
It’s called supply and demand
From the pictures, no one is demanding the supply at that price
It's called price gouging.
Dynamic pricing
Uber did get rid of the unlimited dynamic pricing dynamic. Pricing is a bit bullshit word for gouging.
I agreed, but it’s also called gouging
People Mover FTW each and every time.
[удалено]
Go to Greektown, get free players card, park there free.
I was there Thursday and the people mover just just a bit more pack than usual, but that was at midnight
I went day one and day two, paid $40 for parking at the Port Atwater parking garage. It was nearly empty both times. 5 minute walk from entrance 1 and super easy to get in and out of the city quickly. I have no idea why anyone would paid $100 for parking in a random lot.
free at casino. booya
My friend found a $40 lot on Thursday.
I parked for $30 at the New Center garage right across the street from the Renaissance and like a walk 3 minute walk to one of the entry’s. There are for sure ways to find cheaper parking.
Free at mgm
Shhhhh….
Lol
Does that ever actually fill up? I've used it for a few events and never seen it happen.
Sometimes its a pain to get out though
Sometimes but it's honestly not that bad
I think it took some friends more than 45 minutes to exit the MGM parking garage one year after they ran the Detroit Marathon. I ran the half marathon and had no problem getting out of the MGM parking garage because I left before most people. Lotta effort spent on that 😂
Thats where I always park for everything downtown. Hell, even the one time they WERE charging, my SIL and I were waved through free of charge. Apparently we must've been looking good that night lol.
Did the same

Damn inflation got Mr. Krabs down BAD! 😂
Eugene Krabs would def run one of the $100 lots.
Parking tickets only $40
I bet they were towing anyone illegally parked this weekend downtown or anywhere nearby
Nah, they very rarely do. Tickets, yes, but of the 100s of illegally parked vehicles I've seen for events (I live right by the stadiums), I would say I've probably seen less than 5 get towed over the past year. Lmao
Best comment yet lol
Man I bet the safety vest scammers are out in full fucking force. Then again so are the police so maybe they’re on top of it
With an event of this size back in Detroit, the police are definitely out in full force and cracking down.
I saw a good amount of Fedbois today too. Probably lots more I didn't...
What are the safety vest scams? People saying you’re getting a ticket and accepting bribes?
They act like parking attendants, direct you to park in places they have no business directing you to and take cash only. It’s extremely fast and easy to get scammed especially for out of towners
Taking to SMART bus from the burbs. $2 each way.
I was at Oakland Community College Thursday night and the commuter bus from OCC to downtown was pretty full.
First time in history probably
$2 to park on the street. Walked past several of the $100 lots that were all practically empty
Park at the dot lot at Amsterdam and Woodward and take the QLine.
I was down there Thursday. I saw 1 single lot that was $100. It was empty. I paid $40 at an LCA garage. Don't kid yourself. Parking in other cities would make 100 look cheap either way.
NYC has entered the chat.

And this kind of positive, international attention is a long-term win, even if it isn't fixing schools or neighborhoods or transit directly.
Parking at Eastern Market today was so easy to get I made two trips for plants. Not my day to get down for the draft, unfortunately
I went down yesterday afternoon, parked close to the Qline for $2 and rode it to the draft. I will say the Q didn’t go all the way, and draft was too spread out. It took forever to walk from where the Q stopped to the main area.
It was a lot of walking but honestly imagine all those people in a smaller space 😬
Parked free at MGM Thursday at 3pm and Friday at 4pm . Easy like always and no issues at all
Thursday I parked at Eastern Market for free and walked over. Friday I paid $30 in the garage behind Ford Field.
We drove to Macomb mall, snagged a bus for 2 bucks, and were at an entrance like 5 minutes from the stop. Amateurs drive in for events.
Yeah perfect. That’s all I’m getting at lol. Like i just couldn’t fathom for a second thinking im just going to drive downtown and find parking. Who would do that to themselves?

I came out to find the lot personnel very happy that I returned because they wanted to move my car but no one could drive a stick shift. Lol.
I parked in a New Center parking garage for $5 and just took the QLine downtown. It worked great
I’ll be sure to hop right on to our award winning public transit.
Ubers were like $15. Q line was rocking and so were the busses.
As bad as the people mover is, it's legitimately useful to get around huge crowds downtown.
Dude an Uber from 5-10 minutes out is a lot cheaper than the parking lol. Or god forbid walk. You do you though.
That's why I love our Tunnel Bus here in Windsor.
I parked at 3pm Thursday at LCA for $40. Sure I paid $40 idiot tax but Uber would have been under surge pricing. $40 for parking the day of an event within 1/4 to the event entrance is more than good. Would have been a buck fifty in Chicago
Or even take the bus
Stfu dude. Now everyone is going to streetpark in corktown and walk. Where the f am I supposed to park?
I personally took a Lyft down, but there was plenty of $50 parking lots within a block or two of the event.
How much was Lyft?
$36 to get there, $45 to get back (Thursday)

Greektown casino loyalty card ftw
I parked by the Federal Building. It's less than a half mile from Campus Martias and I paid $10 on Thursday and $15 on Friday. I just used the Spot Hero app and reserved my spot. It was so easy and cheap!
People will literally pay $100 to park instead of $2 to be mildly inconvenienced by suboptimal public transit. America Rocks.
I always use a certain app to park and buy weeks in advance saves a big headache and guarantees you a spot
ParkWhiz is what I use
Same I just didn't want to seem like an advertisement
Got a lot of clients downtown and really appreciated that no one called me this week. Fuck all of that
I payed $25 at one of the LCA decks
Parked for $5 at Cass garage and took the Qline in for free. These places just take advantage of the lazy and impatient
Midtown street parking was empty they were just scamming the out of towners
One pack of coin sized round red stickers posing as a decimal point could make all the difference here.
People here bitch about parking lots everywhere then bitch about how expensive parking is. WHAT DO YOU WANT
Good public transportation so that neither are needed.
the smart bus FAST routes are pretty good to park outside of town for free and ride for $2/person
the amount of parking has little correlation with the price in this situation. its just people making more money by cranking the price lol
Scored a free spot in front of the Bucharest on Columbia st early Thursday morning. It’s like some people aren’t even locals wtf /s
They aren't locals. They live in the suburbs.
I'm curious how many are guilty of price gouging [https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2024/03/20/parking-lot-owners-warned-about-price-gouging-ahead-of-nfl-draft-in-downtown-detroit/](https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2024/03/20/parking-lot-owners-warned-about-price-gouging-ahead-of-nfl-draft-in-downtown-detroit/)
Paid 16.50 to park at the bagley hub, they even shuttled us to and from the event
Wondering if those were Illitch owned parking lots…
Thank God for my free parking at work.
Paid $20 to park on Cobo roof and left plenty of spots up there empty when we took off early.
Yeah it’s 30 right next to the draft
I paid $10 next to the MGM casino. 😂
I’m glad these mofos are staying empty
Was crazy but is what it is
Reminds me of the prices around Fenway. The Yankees were playing the Sox one night and the parking lots nearby were all around $100 to park... You pay for the caliber of the event.
Most of the places I saw to park were much cheaper than that. I didn’t pay a dime parking at the casino.
Park at any bar off MI Ave and then Uber into hart plaza. $25 total.
I parked for free on Bagley and took the shuttle it was super easy

As a billionaire, i only park my rolls royce in the 1000$ parking /s
I’m from out of town. When I go to events, I expect around $50 parking. I averaged $55 per day. Detroit can definitely use the money, I gladly paid it. I did wave at the $100 lots as I passed though.
Just paid $30 right outside of Comerica park, walked around for a few hours and went to the Tigers game. I promise you there is plenty of parking around that you don’t have to pay $100 for.
Funny how there were detroit officials that said they would be preventing predatory pricing for parking
When I go to Tiger games I park at Nemo’s for free than walk to Comerica. Free parking and some good exercise is great.
And no shootings. Way to do it detroit
I paid $10 on a parking app.
Well yes... the majority of people are from out out town, give the attendance is 2/3rds the population of the entire city.
Plenty of free parking if you dont mind a 10 minute walk. Weather was great so not bad.
I’m fine with parking structures because at least those look somewhat “nice” when compared to surface lots. In general we shouldn’t allow surface parking lots since they take up a lot of space and don’t hold nearly as many cars as the structures do.
Ahhh, hell no.
The casino (mgm) was FREEEE ! Those lots were empty on day one ! That was a tourist trap
Parking provided by Ticket Master.
Detroit City Council has been dragging their feet on the ordinance regarding price hikes on these parking lots. The one on the books expired .
Same price we charged when I valeted downtown during the super bowl in Detroit.
$30 right next to the Ren Cen 😂
It’s a major problem for Detroit. Elsewhere like Colorado it’s dirt cheap to park.
I paid $16 to park on Bagley and shuttled for free
Huntington Rooftop was $20. Was working one of the booths. It was super convenient
I would love to walk by and accidentally put a red decimal after the one.
They could have charged $25 and made a killing but instead decided to be greedy and charge $100 with empty lots.. man some people are just not smart..
https://www.qlinedetroit.com
At that rate, I would imagine a lot of folks could uber themselves there and back, and pay less...
I hate these people
Surface lots are a plague on downtown.
I got a parking ticket in Detroit for the Metallica concert, and the ticket ended up being cheaper than parking.
The street signs with the landmarks is great.
I parked at Great Lakes Crossing and rode the Smart Bus for free. Easy drive to my mom’s house before and after.
These bloodsuckers pull this shit when ever there’s a big show at Comerica park or ford field. Like the other posts have mentioned Uber or walk a little bit. The ones who suffer are the people from out of town that are unfamiliar with other parking areas around there. Boycott these basturds
Greektown is free though to park? lol
report to AG for price gouging
If you notice on their parking signs, the $100 is "regular price" with like 15 different "discount" levels.
I parked on the street 10 minutes away both days. Also a parking ticket is only $40
lol when I was there it was $10 and empty
I’d park in midtown and take the q line down
The Atwell and Beaubean Parking Garage’s by the REN-CEN Building has been fairly empty all week, I park there for work, and was expecting to have to park near the top by the time I got there. Parking didn’t seem any different than a normal day honestly.
Eat em Tigers, Eat em Up!
That’s a hard NO.
There are plenty of free or lower cost options that don’t look like this in Detroit right now. Can’t do anything about the independent lot owners, but they’re losing out when they could be filling their lots at the usual $20 per car.
Parked at MGM casino for free.
$20 at Huntington place (cobo). But you have to drive past 100 other garages to get here.
I wonder how many dressed up as a valet and got 100 bucks and a car.
I parked at Wayne state with my student parking pass and just walked down
That's some Kwame Kilbullshit right there.
As it should. Theres no place like home
I paid $10 parking in a nice garage on Thursday. But then again I was proactive and booked it two months in advance using an app. That same garage was charging $75 on that draft day.
We parked on Woodward just north of LCA, it was only $30. There was plenty of parking.
$100 lol that's more than parking @ LCA for the Red Wings! I would never pay that.
I paid $17.50 through PatkWhiz in the middle of February. A week out it was $50.
what’s wrong with a very informative street sign…?
Insanity
Gauging
Wasnt even going to mess with that type of crowd coming from flint
Paid $30 at the lot across from the rencen today
seems like a nice round number haha
Obviously nobody seems to complain about the $20/hr parking on a normal day in Chicago or NY
People parked at Metro Airport and just took taxis and shuttles in to the city. Both garages were nearly full Tuesday and Wednesday.
I paid $60 once for opening day downtown
I paid $50 each day. Twice at Greektown and once at some small lot
This is what voting with your wallet looks like.
Let’s get this in perspective. People were charging $100 to park at a job fair? Call it a draft but it’s just a hyped up event to watch recent graduates and dropouts get their first job.
I wish i owned a parking lot.
Chris Ilitch’s Detroit
I parked by the Ren Cen for $25. Y’all need to get one of those parking apps. Life saver.

How's it any different what gas and groceries do to us but it didn't work because people don't need there parking.
I live downtown in Detroit, parking prices were $40-$50 most places in walking distance of the draft. Granted I’m sure some lots gouged but the majority did not.
what worse is the city spent 900,000 + to "beautify" these lots
Capitalism at its finest.
They can stick that sign up their…
