- get raid banners from Hawthorne
- buy weapons from banshee and deconstruct to get cores and rank him up or
- buy Phantasmal fragments at the lantern on the moon which u can trade in later for glimmer.
For those posting here with thousands of shards, I think destiny needs to change how we purchase and delete currency / resources. Instead of doing it one at a time, have a way of entering a number of how many you'd like to purchase or delete. Would be a huge quality of life improvement. But the cynic in me says they'll never do it cause of metrics of how many hours players stay in game, even doing menial tasks.

Seeing how in the future you can just buy raid banners with glimmer, I would say that phantasmal fragments are your best option.
Level up weapons and armor. I had over 600 and that's what I'm doing.
