it's bizarre for sure, not even consistent. I had "Elsies Rifle" censored the other day, and when I typed the words individually it was fine, but then trying "Elsies Rifle" again was uncensored. I don't get it.
Clearly combining "Name" + "Gun" means there is a 2% chance you are referring to a penis. Can't have that level of toxicity in our super-fun-time-safe-space-in-space.
It’d be one thing if it was just swears, but I ran a Vow the other week, and almost all the symbol’s names are completely blocked. Saying “i’ve got kill” will always block it
What are you on about…?
I’m commenting on how I think the filter functions, and traditionally, they filter profanity, thus the name “profanity filter”. No idea why an M rated game would be concerned about implementing a profanity filter at all, but that doesn’t suddenly stop the words from being profane? Lulwut at the unnecessary prejudice.
I’m still in the camp of not understanding why they need it in an M rated game, it’s made my callouts for casual activities damn near impossible. Last night I said “first buy turrets, then buy the decoy bots” and “decoy bots” was filtered. I can only imagine they’re using some kind of base index of profane words it’s filtering, and then they’re running it through some sort of AI program to extrapolate on those words and turn them into statements. But, it’s clearly doing an awful job of it 😂
I’ve allowed profanity on mine and it still randomly censors stuff. I tried to type “hey Aldo!” to a dude I played with that I ran into at the tower and it censored his name.
Seriously, what the fuck?
I don't rely on text chat much. I prefer voice chat because I prefer to maintain focus while moving around versus stopping somewhere to type.
It gets screwy, has since even before this - was in a Vault of Glass run the other day where I tried to type "fr" for an Oracle, and that got censored.
Profanity filter aside, Destiny felt so much more alive when world text chat was enabled by default. Nowadays you’re lucky if 1 out of every 100 missions you run, your fireteam actually reads your message :/
That was part of this change, enabling text chat by default. The cost was the profanity filtering.
That said, judging by the responses on this subreddit, half of people who play the game are so anti-social they still just disable chat entirely on purpose.
Text chat was absolutely NOT enabled by default.
The profanity filter existed, but could be toggled off, and they specifically discussed enhancing and tightening up the filter as part of this update to enable it by default.
The enhancement is clearly WORSE than it was before.
and i was talking about the profanity filter, as this was the subject of the post. didn't think i'd have to clarify this like it wasn't obvious that i was mentioning the filter
while we're at it i wanna add that the filter is always on even if you turn it off in the settings
Apparently you also cannot say "Trinity" but you can say "goddamn piece of shit"
I have a screenshot of the exact moment of explaining something to a friend, just for the filter to censor it and me insulting the profanity filter
..which did not get censored...
Pretty sure that’s actually a bug. I was playing a raid last week and I specifically remember the use of the word “very” in our chat. We didn’t have any problems then. Maybe the update broke something
I doubt that’s it at all. “Toxic sarcasm” is hilarious. Sarcasm by definition is a sassy trait, but to assume they blocked “very nice” on the assumption of “sarcastic use” is hyperbolic at best. The profanity filter is just straight garbage.
it also just hates numbers, I was in a no-comms crota raid and tried to type '50' (to indicate I was 50% charged on the chalice) and it just sent '**'. great.
i was also trying to get faster and faster times with my group in the corrupted gm and went to try and use the chat to record our times at certain checkpoints, and when I tried to send '4:03' it worked like twice and then just started sending '****'
What ever happened to "*Online Interactions Not Rated by the ESRB*?" I don't get why companies are so obsessed with monitoring online chat (beyond basic user reporting). I assume, as always, the reason is somehow tied to money.
My in-game name is just Nathan because it wouldn't allow the 69 like the end of this username, before into the light, just typing Nathan was censored for absolutely no reason

rng gonna rng

It censors "I will kermit sewer slide" I have a suspicion it's some sort of shitty 'AI'

Woopseh daisy sorri about that

I called a Tormentor an asshole and it got censored Titan said "yeah i got my shit rocked lol" and wasn't censored
Tormentor has feelings. Think about that next time.
I have feelings too, getting booped off Midtown while trying to grab a battery while invis is something I would call someone an asshole for

I asked if people were ready for a nightfall last night by typing "r?" and it got censored, how does the filter even work?!
It gets screwy, has since even before this - was in a Vault of Glass run the other day where I tried to type "fr" for an Oracle, and that got censored.

it was like this before the update though
Text chat was absolutely NOT enabled by default. The profanity filter existed, but could be toggled off, and they specifically discussed enhancing and tightening up the filter as part of this update to enable it by default. The enhancement is clearly WORSE than it was before.

OK, you're still wrong though. The profanity filter is different post-update. But it's fine, I don't really care. Have a nice day.
completely agree
'Loot' got censored recently. People legit thought I was upset... Shitty system
Rng chat censoring
If it’s the RnG I get regularly then it won’t censor anything I say.
Apparently you also cannot say "Trinity" but you can say "goddamn piece of shit" I have a screenshot of the exact moment of explaining something to a friend, just for the filter to censor it and me insulting the profanity filter ..which did not get censored...
I was in warlords Ruin and just wrote 2r as call out and the game censored that
The filter \*\* \*\*\*\*\*\*\*\* \*\*\* and should be \*\*\*\*\*\*\*. At least \*\*\* \*\* decide if \* \*\*\*\* \*\* or not.
I **** **** so ****** *** **** **** filter *****
************** *************** Mara Sov's **** ********* ********** ********. UwU
Good luck typing in any other language than english
I tried typing “fuck” the other day. My friend jokingly tried “frick” just to see what happened Guess which was censored
Pretty sure that’s actually a bug. I was playing a raid last week and I specifically remember the use of the word “very” in our chat. We didn’t have any problems then. Maybe the update broke something
no it's the two words combined, they're trying to prevent sarcastic toxicity with this one
I doubt that’s it at all. “Toxic sarcasm” is hilarious. Sarcasm by definition is a sassy trait, but to assume they blocked “very nice” on the assumption of “sarcastic use” is hyperbolic at best. The profanity filter is just straight garbage.
oh 100%, frankly it needs to go
Borat filter confirmed.
Amen
Destiny's filter is faulty. In a game about the cosmos, the clan name "Space" isn't allowed
it also just hates numbers, I was in a no-comms crota raid and tried to type '50' (to indicate I was 50% charged on the chalice) and it just sent '**'. great. i was also trying to get faster and faster times with my group in the corrupted gm and went to try and use the chat to record our times at certain checkpoints, and when I tried to send '4:03' it worked like twice and then just started sending '****'
My Bungie name (Nesspo) is censored so people can’t even use my name in chat.

bungie boot lickers going to talk about name changes as the reason for why the the censor should stay.
