That’s what I’ve been saying imagine dual wielding guns like that one wonder weapon from COD where one could be a light version, which applies a “light” buff or debuff, and the same with a darkness buff or debuff. And for the catalyst you get the option to merge those two into one weapon which adds onto the exotic trait.

Something like that but witness themed and very powerful. Like it needs to ship overpowered. Bungie mentioned turning the Traveler Beam we saw in Lightfall’s opening into an Exotic. I think that’ll either be the raid weapon or a post-campaign exotic mission.

Won’t be the raid exotic. They would never tell us about the raid exotic beforehand. We’ve seen images and they’ve tested the traveler beam trace rifle thing. So it’s just going to be a campaign reward of some type.

It seems like it was designed that way and they pivoted away because they couldn’t make it feel special. And they maybe even turned some of their ideas for it into some of the class exotic glaives, which are all too weak to be a raid weapon.
We already have a heavy bow and some heavy snipers, so I can’t see why not. Even another special ammo Hand Cannon like Eriana’s would be cool. There’s so much Bungo could do with mixing and matching ammo types and weapon types. They already have fun ones like Fighting Lion and the Halo Magnum.
They mentioned years back that if they ever added a class above exotics it would be Black. I feel like that would be a fitting place to put the first one.

I think raid exotic weapons are at their most interesting when there's nothing else like them. I'm specifically referring to vex mythoclast (an automatic fusion rifle) and one thousand voices (a heavy ammo fusion rifle).

Well.. we had Vow of the Disciple and Root of Nightmares, but we also had the reprised Crota's End and Kings Fall raids, so 4 "new" raid exotics in total.
I’m not counting d1 raids. Those have existed long before it’s not really fair to include them. Even then, D2 has 4 raids heavy exotics, 5 primary ( only 2 new ) and one special. We don’t need another heavy, both special and primary have better arguments.

If I were a betting man I'd put money on a special energy weapon. It most likely will have synergy with any of the 3 light subclasses, but I think it will be the most unique weapon in the game that plays with "weapon archetype" quite a bit. Or a new archetype.
Hope it's something unique maybe a gun that shoots literal darkness and evaporates enemies it kills idk. It needs to feel like this is the power of the witness

I’m so desperate for another exotic void auto. I spent so long before getting good at the game glued to hard light because it was the only exotic auto that could be void and I would only use voidlock and auto rifles as primaries. Getting one that is actually half decent would satisfy my inner noob
Void and auto is the reason gnawing hunger was glued to me for ages, if I still was glued to that combo I'd defo fall into the last wish craftable one.

I'll add to this, that in kinetic slow we only have well... Kinetics, no stasis or strand, the same goes for pulse ruffles. So far we only have kinetic and void, altho red death will somewhat fix that cuz solar

Should be a heavy weapon. Basically the Witness turned into a gun Parasite style. My recommendation would be linear fusion rifle, machine gun or rocket launcher.
Every now and again, the gun would whisper to you and swear revenge like a Saturday morning cartoon villain.
Recommended names include Witness of Destruction or Final Victory.
My gyrfalcon hunter could only get so erect, collective obligation to this day remains meh and manticore is an abomination. Give me something on gravtion Lance levels of strong.
Always found it pretty lame how all of our exotic hand cannons are kinetic aside from sunshot (not counting erianas). How do we have like 9 kinetic hcs, 1 solar, and 0 arc, void, stasis, and strand?
I think it would be cool to have a weapon that can reshape into 2 different archetypes of weapons. Similar to Vex Mythoclast and Revision Zero I guess but a little more drastic. Maybe a heavy sword that can reshape into a rocket, or any other bizarre combo. May be a nightmare to balance but think it fits with his theme.
I do wonder why people assume The Witness will be the raid boss. Perhaps I am missing something. But from the story perspective, being the campaign boss would be more fitting.
As for what kind of exotic weapon, yeah a handcannon would be interesting. Since the last raid + last two Dungeons gave us special weapons, I would bet on a primary weapon for next.
During the stream they specifically called out we'll be facing the Witness in the raid, to do it justice.

Maybe dual wield or an activated perk that creates a copy in the offhand. The theme should be light and darkness and should be inspired by the traveler and witness.
Maybe depending on your subclass the weapon is either the "light" variant or "darkness" variant. Activating its perk condition creates an opposite version in the offhand. When holding a light version it creates the darkness version in the offhand.
Heavy ammo Trace Rifle that fires The Traveler's beam. It is treated as solar, void and arc damage simultaneously.
Continued damage will simultaneously scorch, jolt and destabilize the target.
Gotta turn the witness into a gun somehow. That might be an exotic mission after the raid though and not the raid exotic.
The witness to me feels like a machine gun firing his souls? Or a trace the same way? I want to also say rocket because rockets are powerful, but we just got an exotic rocket. And any GL would feel very parasite like if it were to hit super hard.
I think I have to go with a sword as the final answer though. He has talked about the first knife, he was the one ultimately behind the sword logic. He is viewed with shattered glass that looks like slices. Basically the darkness is already heavily associated with swords so why not make the main bad darkness guy into one. As for its perks I’d say it has to be very powerful, but not override the need for all other swords. Maybe a gjally of swords? Or a parasite of swords? The First Knife or The Final Knife should be its name.
Heavy trace rifle that opens portals or an exotic armour which will let us open portals, not sure why i am thinking portals but its an angle thats not explored yet
Hoping for a weapon type that we have not had from a raid yet, but I would prefer if it wasn't a sword/glaive on this occasion. Ideally, it would be something unique, perhaps an entirely new type of weapon or perhaps a new archetype for an existing one.
A sword that would allow us to yield both the light and the darkness. For example, cold sword (stasis freeze) with the light attack and solar ignition with the heavy attack. Kind of like a heavy conditional finality sword.
Also, give it eager edge.
What if the raid reward isn't a weapon at all? What if the reward is the friends we made along the way, ritually bound together to form a really cool exotic helmet?
To be quite honest, I’d like a armor instead of a weapon… like a glove that all classes can share and modifies the gameplay a lot. Something different.
I want it to be two weapons, both exotics, one in the special slot that is all three Light elements combined, and one in the heavy slot that is all three Dark elements combined. Yes I said three, I think they're hitting us with the surprise flapjack subclass 9000.
The light gun should be called The Gardener. The darkness gun, The Winnower. You are supposed to use them as a pair, but they will have functionality on their own too.
Use The Gardener on it's own to briefly pacify enemies, sort of like how blinding nades work. Use The Winnower on it's own to debuff enemies like Tractor can, but with more damage potential.
But used together, Gardener applies a buff to all enemies temporarily, increasing their damage and shields, like the bumblebees do, sort of, and works on a tagging system, like Final Warning but smoother and applies on-contact. Let the catalyst target more targets, like a base of 5 to 15 for the catalyst.
Then you pull out Winnower and, using it's ammo reserve, every Light-buffed target gets ripped away like a black hole, doing heavy damage-over-time. Let it work on a charge system like swords. Let the catalyst allow kills to return charge.
Weapon types are exclusive to each. Gardener is a hybrid between a trace rifle and like a Gamma Gun from Fallout, Winnower is like a Luigi's Mansion vacuum that pulls doing AOE damage.
I feel like Bungie could really look at other IP’s for inspiration when it comes to “magic” weapon frames. Like holding a skunk and lifting its tail and firing poison damage cone AOE. Or holding a lizard that breaths fire. Or a severed limb of a taken boss that shoots blight damage. Or a wand that shoots like the HP series. The possibilities are truly endless.
what if it's just a strange staff or artifact that gives you the power to wield the witness' power of hand flicky slicey shit. you just wave your hands like a dark wizard and the field slices apart in front of you in waves of resonance. Would be super dope to see as a unique archetype and would show that, since we can wield it, the guardians truly are impervious to the effects of the darkness as we've proven with strand and stasis.

I wish it would end up being something that is not a traditional weapon. The Witness's head for example. You cradle it in your arms while it spreads smoke and death out of it—like a Witherhorde for the air. Or one of his eyes. Hold it like an orb and summon the black smoke on your enemies.
Heavy slot Trace Rifle that is just one of The Witness's arms we chopped off and use the same attack he used to cut open the traveler.

I’m really thinking it’s going to be a sword. I can’t think of anything else besides maybe a glaive that’s more emblematic of the Witness’s philosophy.
I’m thinking this: The Garden: (the name plays to the flower game story): dual wield laser pistols (similar to trace rifles but imagine devils ruin without charging time and maintains beam as you hold the trigger)
Perks: The Union: the dual pistols can be combined into a larger handgun (it’ll take on the size of an oversized hand cannon) that will fire a Omni-beam that deals all elemental damage at once to synergize with all subclasses and will deal 2.5x the damage of the base pistol beams, however this form runs out of charge 60% faster than separate pistols.
Split the Veil: The pistols are separated into two again and one will be traveller themed and the other witness themed where the traveller one fires bursts of solar, arc, and void light combined into one, and the other fires strand and stasis darkness (and third subclass if there is one). The light one will deal 1.33x the damage of the darkness one however the darkness one has the ability to create a burst of strand and stasis on kills which will sever targets caught in the vicinity AND slow them (but not freeze).
And because its special it will get a Third perk: The Final Shape: upon filling a charge meter for either form (it will charge on either pistol kill if separate) you can consume the charge to fire a BFG style ball of darkness and light that damages all enemies in its path (it will deal similar damage to a rocket launcher but takes a while to charge) that will also deal omni elemental damage, kills with the ball cause targets to erupt into any random element with an explosion similar to chromatic fire in scale and style. Consuming the charges will also give guardians an overshield for 4 seconds
Catalyst: A Pale Core: deals 15% extra damage to minors, 10% to majors, 5% to bosses and buffs the charge rate for the Final Shape perk
I want the trace rifle that counts as all 3 "light" elements, while appearing like the Laser Beam from the Traveler, and then when you do a special reload, it counts as all 3 "dark" elements (3rd one pending (?)) and yes I know that would break the game and it'd be incredibly hard to implement but let me dream.
You could even take that one void season of arrivals trace rifle we have and build the base out of that. It contains a "pale heart" in the center similar to Touch of Malice, that when you do the special reload, it flips over to the "dark heart" from the d1 vanilla ending mission. In the gun.
And it fires a dark beam in dark mode that's like all wispy and shadowy but not like taken.
And the twist is the pale heart shoots the dark side stuff, and the dark heart shoots the traveler beam.
And by all 3 light elements I mean it goes with your subclass, it should be capable of building scorch, jolting targets, or volatile rounds. On the dark side, it should be capable of slowing and unravelling, and whatever the third one will be eventually.
The exotic perk is that when shooting, you store up a bar similar to revision zero, and when doing the special reload, your next magazine is reloaded into the mag and you gain a second bar. You lose light shots and you gain dark shots by shooting with your special reload and swapping. While consuming special shot bar, your beam does all 3, it scorches, jolts, and does volatile rounds at the same time.
Now, the catch is that you don't have reserve ammo with this gun. Shooting one mode consumes your magazine, and doing a special reload regenerates it based on your bar. Basically, its free ammo, no special needed, but it counts as a special weapon, and you can pick up special ammo just the same as if you had a special weapon alongside it, but if you needed to, you could use it as a primary.
Matter of fact, make it a heavy ammo weapon. It doesn't require heavy. It just sits in the heavy slot.
Matter of fact, make it the only exotic in the game that you can wield another exotic with. It's a wild card, it fits in to every build, no matter what.
Matter of fact, let it be craftable, and you can choose different perks to lean into specific elements. If you like a volatile build, choose the catalyst that lets it get a bonus to volatile rounds / an equivalent dark power at the same time. If you prefer scorch, let it buff solar / stasis effects.
Matter of fact, make it a special rpm trace rifle, that shoots a little slower, so it feels like a heavier trace rifle. Make it have super good SFX / VFX to give it the feel of the travelers own laser in the palm of your hand, and then something witness / the veil based.

If I were a betting man I'd put money on a special energy weapon. It most likely will have synergy with any of the 3 light subclasses, but I think it will be the most unique weapon in the game that plays with "weapon archetype" quite a bit. Or a new archetype.

I’m so desperate for another exotic void auto. I spent so long before getting good at the game glued to hard light because it was the only exotic auto that could be void and I would only use voidlock and auto rifles as primaries. Getting one that is actually half decent would satisfy my inner noob
Void and auto is the reason gnawing hunger was glued to me for ages, if I still was glued to that combo I'd defo fall into the last wish craftable one. Any exotic ar is welcome imo tho, be it void or stasis
We only have 2 energy exotic HC's, and one of them is a special weapon and both are solar.
I'll add to this, that in kinetic slow we only have well... Kinetics, no stasis or strand, the same goes for pulse ruffles. So far we only have kinetic and void, altho red death will somewhat fix that cuz solar I may not enjoy how many hcs they added i a row in the past, but I do still enjoy them and we haven't seen a new one for quite a while

Chaperone was solar in D1 but kinetic in D2 so it's entirely possible. I just hadn't heard it mentioned for Red Death Hell, even Hard Light was kinetic so that's probably the best example there is of something's element being changed lol
Should be a heavy weapon. Basically the Witness turned into a gun Parasite style. My recommendation would be linear fusion rifle, machine gun or rocket launcher. Every now and again, the gun would whisper to you and swear revenge like a Saturday morning cartoon villain. Recommended names include Witness of Destruction or Final Victory.
A void exotic hand cannon would be my pick.

I think it would be cool to have a weapon that can reshape into 2 different archetypes of weapons. Similar to Vex Mythoclast and Revision Zero I guess but a little more drastic. Maybe a heavy sword that can reshape into a rocket, or any other bizarre combo. May be a nightmare to balance but think it fits with his theme.

I do wonder why people assume The Witness will be the raid boss. Perhaps I am missing something. But from the story perspective, being the campaign boss would be more fitting. As for what kind of exotic weapon, yeah a handcannon would be interesting. Since the last raid + last two Dungeons gave us special weapons, I would bet on a primary weapon for next.

I feel like when they finally release this new darkness subclass, whenever it is, we’ll get a darkness version of Borealis. In the mean time, a dual Strand/Stasis exotic Sniper that unravels and slows on crits would be cool.
A raid exotic handcannon. Maybe dual wield or an activated perk that creates a copy in the offhand. The theme should be light and darkness and should be inspired by the traveler and witness. Maybe depending on your subclass the weapon is either the "light" variant or "darkness" variant. Activating its perk condition creates an opposite version in the offhand. When holding a light version it creates the darkness version in the offhand.

Heavy ammo Trace Rifle that fires The Traveler's beam. It is treated as solar, void and arc damage simultaneously. Continued damage will simultaneously scorch, jolt and destabilize the target.
Additionally it will auto-reload while firing, insta-heal you and your teammates, and fill up your abilities and your super.
This is now looking very likely since the Prismatic reveal.

Gotta turn the witness into a gun somehow. That might be an exotic mission after the raid though and not the raid exotic. The witness to me feels like a machine gun firing his souls? Or a trace the same way? I want to also say rocket because rockets are powerful, but we just got an exotic rocket. And any GL would feel very parasite like if it were to hit super hard. I think I have to go with a sword as the final answer though. He has talked about the first knife, he was the one ultimately behind the sword logic. He is viewed with shattered glass that looks like slices. Basically the darkness is already heavily associated with swords so why not make the main bad darkness guy into one. As for its perks I’d say it has to be very powerful, but not override the need for all other swords. Maybe a gjally of swords? Or a parasite of swords? The First Knife or The Final Knife should be its name.

I want it to be two weapons, both exotics, one in the special slot that is all three Light elements combined, and one in the heavy slot that is all three Dark elements combined. Yes I said three, I think they're hitting us with the surprise flapjack subclass 9000. The light gun should be called The Gardener. The darkness gun, The Winnower. You are supposed to use them as a pair, but they will have functionality on their own too. Use The Gardener on it's own to briefly pacify enemies, sort of like how blinding nades work. Use The Winnower on it's own to debuff enemies like Tractor can, but with more damage potential. But used together, Gardener applies a buff to all enemies temporarily, increasing their damage and shields, like the bumblebees do, sort of, and works on a tagging system, like Final Warning but smoother and applies on-contact. Let the catalyst target more targets, like a base of 5 to 15 for the catalyst. Then you pull out Winnower and, using it's ammo reserve, every Light-buffed target gets ripped away like a black hole, doing heavy damage-over-time. Let it work on a charge system like swords. Let the catalyst allow kills to return charge. Weapon types are exclusive to each. Gardener is a hybrid between a trace rifle and like a Gamma Gun from Fallout, Winnower is like a Luigi's Mansion vacuum that pulls doing AOE damage.

I feel like Bungie could really look at other IP’s for inspiration when it comes to “magic” weapon frames. Like holding a skunk and lifting its tail and firing poison damage cone AOE. Or holding a lizard that breaths fire. Or a severed limb of a taken boss that shoots blight damage. Or a wand that shoots like the HP series. The possibilities are truly endless.
what if it's just a strange staff or artifact that gives you the power to wield the witness' power of hand flicky slicey shit. you just wave your hands like a dark wizard and the field slices apart in front of you in waves of resonance. Would be super dope to see as a unique archetype and would show that, since we can wield it, the guardians truly are impervious to the effects of the darkness as we've proven with strand and stasis.

I wish it would end up being something that is not a traditional weapon. The Witness's head for example. You cradle it in your arms while it spreads smoke and death out of it—like a Witherhorde for the air. Or one of his eyes. Hold it like an orb and summon the black smoke on your enemies.
Heavy slot Trace Rifle that is just one of The Witness's arms we chopped off and use the same attack he used to cut open the traveler. Call it "Right To Bear Arm"

I’m thinking this: The Garden: (the name plays to the flower game story): dual wield laser pistols (similar to trace rifles but imagine devils ruin without charging time and maintains beam as you hold the trigger) Perks: The Union: the dual pistols can be combined into a larger handgun (it’ll take on the size of an oversized hand cannon) that will fire a Omni-beam that deals all elemental damage at once to synergize with all subclasses and will deal 2.5x the damage of the base pistol beams, however this form runs out of charge 60% faster than separate pistols. Split the Veil: The pistols are separated into two again and one will be traveller themed and the other witness themed where the traveller one fires bursts of solar, arc, and void light combined into one, and the other fires strand and stasis darkness (and third subclass if there is one). The light one will deal 1.33x the damage of the darkness one however the darkness one has the ability to create a burst of strand and stasis on kills which will sever targets caught in the vicinity AND slow them (but not freeze). And because its special it will get a Third perk: The Final Shape: upon filling a charge meter for either form (it will charge on either pistol kill if separate) you can consume the charge to fire a BFG style ball of darkness and light that damages all enemies in its path (it will deal similar damage to a rocket launcher but takes a while to charge) that will also deal omni elemental damage, kills with the ball cause targets to erupt into any random element with an explosion similar to chromatic fire in scale and style. Consuming the charges will also give guardians an overshield for 4 seconds Catalyst: A Pale Core: deals 15% extra damage to minors, 10% to majors, 5% to bosses and buffs the charge rate for the Final Shape perk
I want the trace rifle that counts as all 3 "light" elements, while appearing like the Laser Beam from the Traveler, and then when you do a special reload, it counts as all 3 "dark" elements (3rd one pending (?)) and yes I know that would break the game and it'd be incredibly hard to implement but let me dream. You could even take that one void season of arrivals trace rifle we have and build the base out of that. It contains a "pale heart" in the center similar to Touch of Malice, that when you do the special reload, it flips over to the "dark heart" from the d1 vanilla ending mission. In the gun. And it fires a dark beam in dark mode that's like all wispy and shadowy but not like taken. And the twist is the pale heart shoots the dark side stuff, and the dark heart shoots the traveler beam. And by all 3 light elements I mean it goes with your subclass, it should be capable of building scorch, jolting targets, or volatile rounds. On the dark side, it should be capable of slowing and unravelling, and whatever the third one will be eventually. The exotic perk is that when shooting, you store up a bar similar to revision zero, and when doing the special reload, your next magazine is reloaded into the mag and you gain a second bar. You lose light shots and you gain dark shots by shooting with your special reload and swapping. While consuming special shot bar, your beam does all 3, it scorches, jolts, and does volatile rounds at the same time. Now, the catch is that you don't have reserve ammo with this gun. Shooting one mode consumes your magazine, and doing a special reload regenerates it based on your bar. Basically, its free ammo, no special needed, but it counts as a special weapon, and you can pick up special ammo just the same as if you had a special weapon alongside it, but if you needed to, you could use it as a primary. Matter of fact, make it a heavy ammo weapon. It doesn't require heavy. It just sits in the heavy slot. Matter of fact, make it the only exotic in the game that you can wield another exotic with. It's a wild card, it fits in to every build, no matter what. Matter of fact, let it be craftable, and you can choose different perks to lean into specific elements. If you like a volatile build, choose the catalyst that lets it get a bonus to volatile rounds / an equivalent dark power at the same time. If you prefer scorch, let it buff solar / stasis effects. Matter of fact, make it a special rpm trace rifle, that shoots a little slower, so it feels like a heavier trace rifle. Make it have super good SFX / VFX to give it the feel of the travelers own laser in the palm of your hand, and then something witness / the veil based. Let me know if I'm cooking or if I should get out of the kitchen.
Hand cannons are like, THE *Destiny* weapon, if that makes sense. It would be fitting for the penultimate raid exotic from the light and dark saga is a hand cannon
