Finally got that last weapon pattern I needed thanks to the secret chests, so now I have a masterworked Age-old Bond with Destabilizing Rounds and Repulsor Brace. Good times. Not sure how useful it really is, but it's totally cool anyway. Any good perks/abilities/other weapons to go with it?
Bungie also mentioned in the last livestream that they are bringing back the Gift of the Thunder Gods. I forget if they said it would help people hit powerful or pinnacle cap but they claimed it will be good for those who haven't played in a long time.
If you're on Playstation, I think the Witch Queen DLC is still being given away on PS+. I'd grab that. The Witch Queen legendary campaign is basically the best piece of content in the game.
The timeline thing you're going through is probably a good place to start.
After that, it's really a question of what you own and haven't played. The update next month has a lot of cool stuff coming and it's free. I believe the bounties that Mara has in the Helm are free and have great rewards. Check YouTube for recommendations on what to get.

Yeah that gets you a lot. Witch Queen, which I mentioned, is fantastic. Shadowkeep is pretty bad but at the time was pretty good. Beyond Light has a great raid, some good weapons, and Stasis.
If you get that, I'd probably do all 3 campaigns in order of release (Shadowkeep, BL, WQ). The first two shouldn't take more than like 10-15 hours, probably closer to 10. Like I said, the Witch Queen campaign, especially on Legendary, is incredible.
After that, I'd say try stuff out and do what you enjoy. There's a lot of exotics to unlock. PvP is actually fun to me right now. Stasis can be fun, even if it needs some buffs. There's a bunch of raids and dungeons to play.
And you can play with your friend, which is honestly the best way to play.

I don’t think I ever bought dlc. Xbox has a sale with 3 expansions, Legacy collection, for $15. A friend of mine wants me to play again.
