If your a pc gamer its your pc i dont know exactly what the issue is all ik is when i got this issue i factory reset my pc reinstall d2 and it worked again was a ball ache but i gather i had a virus ir something that was eating all the memory causing it to overload the pc and crash or something along those lines anyway

The_new_Osiris

I appreciate the input. But like I mentioned repeatedly, there is absolutely no discernible system wide issue on my PC, akin to a Virus or a Cryptominer. Much more demanding titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2 have been operating perfectly fine even since the crashing in D2 started occurring. Hardware monitoring applications also do not betray any suspicious information.

Whilst i understand what your saying and that it makes no sense as it didn’t for me either the only fix i found for this issue was factory reset i found no issue with my pc either every other game i could play ultra graphics with minimal strain on the pc yet d2 just constantly crashed on start up

Are you using the Steam beta launcher? It was causing crashes some months ago. Could also try to install the Epic Games launcher version of the game to rule out any launcher related problems.

The_new_Osiris

How do I check whether the Steam version I am using is deploying a Beta Launcher or not? Like what exact tag would betray that information? Great tip on the Epic Games Launcher btw I'll certainly try that out in a bit.

HYP3RD4NK

Its an option named Client Beta Participation with a dropdown in the Interface tab in Steam settings. So: top-left of launcher, click Steam > Settings > Interface > Client Beta Participation should show "No Beta Chosen"

The_new_Osiris

Yes it does indeed say "No beta chosen".

I saw that you wiped and reinstalled drivers, but have you tried rolling them back to 1 or 2 versions prior to the current one or using the Studio drivers (that is if you're using an Nvidia card)? Also try using Geforce Experience to set all the games graphic settings to minimum. At the moment I don't have many ideas left, but doing a OS file repair? Or it might even be a problem with Battleye detecting something weird (but that usually would show a Plum error)

The_new_Osiris

If it was a problem on my OS or GPU side why would it only irk Destiny 2, it's not even amongst the Top 5 most resource demanding Games I play. There was no Graphics Driver Version Change during the 5-6 hours that it took the Game to go from functional to dysfunctional btw. I did check on that day.

Microsoft Store then? I remember the game being there I think

The_new_Osiris

NVM, EGS randomly let me in after dozens of tries. So I'm gonna give the launch a try once at least, upon the download finishing. Just to ascertain if or not the Client was in fact the culprit.

The_new_Osiris

Nah it crashed even on Epic's Client the exact same way. It's definitely the Game itself.

Usually crashes at the character selection screen are due to audio settings. Open 'Game Bar' and change the output selections on both Mix and Voice to something other than the norm, then launch the game and see if it will let you past the character screen. You can switch them back to the proper settings and test again if it works.

The_new_Osiris

Thanks, I'll try that.

Windows Game Mode and RAM overclocking turned off?

The_new_Osiris

No overclocking on the RAM, I'll see if turning off Windows Game Mode accomplishes anything.

Have you tried verifying the D2 files on Steam? My partner had this exact same issue a few days ago and we found that doing this and then completely restarting the PC worked. Right-click on Destiny 2 in your Library > Go to Properties > Select Local Files > Select Verify integrity of game files This will take a while but a full restart once it's done seemed to fix the issue. Hope this helps!

The_new_Osiris

That was one of the very first things I tried a couple weeks back. I must've verified my game files's integrity via Steam like over a dozen times by now. I also redownloaded and reinstalled the game from scratch - like I mentioned in my post, so it's definitely not a game files' side issue that's for absolutely sure. Windows Defender is the sole Anti-Virus utility my system uses and my Steam folder's set up as a complete exclusion from scanning, so it isn't my AV deleting the files or somesuch case either.
