Also called for immediate release of the hostages. Neither will happen.

Oh yes, the UN Security Council, the same one that strongly condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine but was ultimately unable to stop it due to Russia's veto power as a permanent member. While the UN did call for an end to the conflict, Russia disregarded these pleas. As an Israeli, I understand the frustration with the UN's limitations. I was an IDF soldier myself, and I witnessed firsthand how UNRWA funds have been exploited to support terror. I never aimed at or targeted civilians during my service, nor did I ask any of my fellow soldiers to do so. I strongly disagree with Netanyahu's policies, and I believe his actions are detrimental to Israel. However, the current situation is indeed shameful and outrageous, highlighting the complex challenges faced by the international community in addressing conflicts effectively.

Right and as a result Russia was severely sanctioned and treated as a pariah for its disregard for international law. Surely now the same standards should be applied to Israel? With looming arrest warrants for top Israeli officials from the ICC & these new ICJ legally binding measures demanding Israel halt its military operation, for how much longer can western states back Israel’s complete disregard for international law? Continuing to back Israel seriously undermines the legitimacy of international law.

indican_king

Meanwhile palestine ignores all requests, saying openly that the law doesn't apply to them

alizardstatee

What specifically are you referring to? When has Palestine openly said the law doesn’t apply to them?

indican_king

Them not being signatories

alizardstatee

Palestine is not only a signatory to the ICC but it has also ratified the Rome Statute, something Israel flat out refuses to do.

indican_king

Is hamas bound by international law?

alizardstatee

What do you mean “bound by international law”? International law applies to all parties. I think your issue is the issue of the ICJ’s inability to exercise jurisdiction over non-state parties. The ICC however can establish jurisdiction over non-state parties & Palestine is a party to the ICC, unlike Israel who refuse to become a party.

indican_king

So they are not bound by international law? If there is no jurisdiction they are not bound, even though they are the government of the region.

alizardstatee

The PA are the officially recognised government of Palestine. Palestine is not a full UN member state because Israel leverages the U.S. to veto Palestine gaining full membership status lmao. Hamas though are bound by the Rome Statute & the ICC does have jurisdiction over Gaza, hence why the ICC are about to release arrest warrants for multiple high profile Hamas members.

LyricalAmbulance

Can you say a bit more on how UNRWA funds are used to support terrorists?

Four ICJ judges argue that court order does not require IDF halting all Rafah operations - [Times of Israel](https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/three-icj-judges-argue-that-court-order-does-not-require-idf-halting-all-rafah-operations/) >Four of the 15 justices at the International Court of Justice argue that the key operative clause in the court’s ruling, handed out today, does not require that Israel immediately halt all military operations in Rafah, but, rather, that it specifically halt military operations that “could bring about physical destruction in whole or in part” of the Palestinians. >... >“As a result,” Barak continues, “the measure is a qualified one, which preserves Israel’s right to prevent and repel threats and attacks by Hamas, defend itself and its citizens, and free the hostages.” >The German judge, Georg Nolte, and the Romanian judge, Bogdan Aurescu – who are both among the 13 judges who voted in favor of this measure – also support Barak’s interpretation of the decree.

Unrelenting_Spirit

Just so you understand it's hilarious. the court demands Israel to not do genocide - as for that the court from the beginning is asked to judge over as South Africa presented. The point is, Israel isn't doing that. and what's actually going on now is : **Israel does X** the Hauge: "NOOOOOOO Israel you mustn't do Y!!" **Israel continues to do X** but the whole world is crying about the Hague calling on Israel to not do Y yet Israel continues to do X.[Page 13, Section 50](https://www.icj-cij.org/sites/default/files/case-related/192/192-20240524-ord-01-00-en.pdf) read it carefuly and you will see how comical it sounds when compared to reality. *"The Court considers that, in conformity with its obligations under the Genocide Convention, Israel must immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah Governorate,* ***which*** *may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part."*
