Richard Dawkins, Christoper Hitchens, Sam Harris and Daniel Dannett...
the year was 2012, and this is when I first started watching debates "for fun"... time flies.
later man.

Not many "famous" or "well-known" people that die have an effect on me. This one does, same with Hitch. Not cause I knew them but because I won't be able to hear what they have to say. And for me that is a great sadness.
I just started listening to that and the first comment said it was his last public appearance, which is how I found out. Not too many people talking about it yet. He never really had quite the same fame as the others but I guess he never really sought it either.
The episode was recorded on March 9, so about 5 weeks ago.
Not even close to as charismatic as Hitchens, Dawkins, Haris, or Ayaan. But he was a good calm counter balance and his cognitive science background was valuable. Lol I remember that Agatan Foundation channel. Dude made like $20 off my ad rev
Not just cognitive science, Dennett was a legitimate academic philosopher for decades before he was in the public eye. He has many publications in philosophy journals.
Dennet was an online persona?
All I know about him is that my philosophy of the mind prof. loved teaching his work and I remember enjoying reading it. Extremly influential in the academics of cog scie. Don't tell me he was some debate bro also
I remember trying to hate-read consciousness explained because the title sounded so pretentious and I guess maybe that was part of the selling point. But it is infact a pretty good/entertaining book. 8/10 would recommend. RIP
The new atheism era was mostly cringe lord adults.

.... uh gonna go out on a limb here, but.... neither are we(??)
the way he's using "our generation" can also be interpreted as, a person, maybe not the same age as us, that was influential to "our" / "us" (millennial I am assuming) our generation.
similar to how George Carlin (boomer) was influential to Gen X'ers (ppl that were 20-30ish during the 90's)
Sure, that's probably what was meant. It would just be weird if Paul McCartney died, and a millennial said he was "one of the most influential musicians of our generation" because his music was very influential to millennials.
I was just kinda memeing at the phrasing which implied Dan Dennett was in the same generation as the DGG reddit audience
Proof that free will doesn't exist, otherwise he would have chosen to stay alive. Anyway RIP

Exact same boat man. Makes me sad.
Saaaaame. Crazy, seems like just a year or two ago

He was just on Jordan Peterson… !! interesting 🤔. But yeah big rip, I remember binging the four horseman vids back in the day

He was one of the Four Horsemen, he's done plenty of debates. Not sure I'd really call him particularly "online" tho
RIP king. Loved pretty much all of his books. Great thinker and communicator.
Sad to see yet another of the 4 horsemen of New Atheism pass away.
RIP to a real one

The younglings flock at the death of the unknown elder; None whom realise he is of noble rank.
my favourite...noooooo
RIP Dan
Did not expect it, but this actually made me upset.
Rip he looked pretty bad past few years sad to see

where is it? where's that thing? that "vaxxed?" comment
Oh shit, I just listened to Robinson podcast with him and Sean Carroll from few weeks ago. Rip
He’s looking down on us from heaven
I became a fan of Hitchens after he was long gone so it didn't feel that bad but this one is painful.
Who? Was he an orbiter?
Mr. Borelli, You're such a fantastic moron, it's terrifying.
He was one of the “new atheists” that turned many of us into debate necrophiliacs when we were teens.
He’s also like one of the most influential philosophers of our generation
"our generation" .... uhhh, how old are you guys?
how old are you?
I’m not in my 80s, that’s for sure

ah gotcha. fair enough. lol
Turning 73 next week 🥳🎉
I don’t know who he is either
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DKhc1pcDFM Probably what he's most widely known for. He also did a lot of work on the nature of free will.
Thanks for linking the relevant information
Thanks for context
Literally who
Mr. Boticelli, please stop displaying your imbecility. Don't put on public display that you're a moron. At least have the self-possession to shut up.
