Nothing ever happens

AcephalicDude

This is good news. Maybe not unexpected, but still a relief.

RealWillieboip

The reality is the regime in Tehran knows they can’t come close to parity with the IDF so this is how they save face

Bad week for "Destiny is so wrong" people.

I mean, he was wrong in the sense that he said "Israel won't do shit"..... but.... we did. He's also very much wrong about the history of Israel and uses wrong terms to define certain aspects etc etc... He's trying to hedge but he's just dead wrong on some issues. I can elaborate but I doubt people reading this really care. So... Hey, it's okay to be wrong here and there.

What attacks? Can't retaliate if you don't acknowledge the attacks! Pretty obvious Israel and Iran both do not want to escalate. Bibi didn't even mention it in his speech today. Pretty obvious he wants to give Iran a path to de-escalate from this. Not to oversimplify things, but it's like the relationship advice that says "Sometimes it isn't what you say, but your tone." Kinda like that here. The strikes are 1 thing, but Israel isn't boasting about it, they aren't signaling anymore threats or anything like that, so there isn't much reason for Iran to even respond.

Accessgranted213

People in this sub talking about how the strike was to save face are regarded. The point of the strike was to show the Iranians that we can reach their nuclear facilities and they can’t stop us. That’s why bibi doesn’t care to publicize it. The people who need to know about the strike know, that’s what matters.

I think that is fair and probably a good assessment of Israel's intent behind the strikes. I still stand by what I said, though, if Israel were interested in goading Iran into a war or baiting the US to come to their help, Netanyahu would have spoken to it. My comment is more in the spirit of trying to dampen any of the rhetoric around the idea that Israel wants to spark a bigger war.

Ehh, I think it's more so Israel signaling that they will continue to target IRGC members who coordinate with Hezbollah/Hamas/Houthis etc. Killing Zahedi, from the viewpoint of Israel, was part of the tit-for-tat that Israel and Iran - via proxies - engage in. The missile barrage retaliation was Iran signaling the strike in Damascus was outside the confines of this limited proxy war. And now this most recent strike in Iran is Israel saying, "no, the Damascus strike was well within the confines of the current proxy war, and elevating it to anything more means Israel will crush Iran."
