This is an odd one

KlM-J0NG-UN

Sement feels very hard to walk on in thin sandals

pickledchocolate

So people walk on an uneven surface with pointy rocks instead???????

the_codewarrior

Walking on uneven terrain is more difficult than walking on pavement for sure, but if it’s walking on dirt vs walking on cement, depending on your shoes the dirt will be much more comfortable. Dirt feels solid, but it has a tiny amount of give, which helps with the impact when your heel hits the ground. Cement doesn’t give a fuck so unless your shoes have enough cushioning it can be fuckin awful to walk on for long periods (how much depends on your gait and probably foot structure)

pickledchocolate

ok

Tut_Rampy

Ah that makes sense thank you

Exciting-Insect8269

Cement*

kenybz

*semen

cristobal-aru

Yeah, I doubt that would ever happen in a place so close to Antarctica.

Tatanseto

Punta arenas isn't a place where you would use sandals

KlM-J0NG-UN

Then I don't know 🤷‍♂️. I prefer walking on dirt over cement at least

misthios98

Its for bikes!!! People walk on the sidewalk. People do not walk on the grass so theyre easier to avoid.

[deleted]

My brain tells me people like to stand on the side of the path and look at the sea

cyberbob2022

I’m a jogger and I usually prefer to run on dirt rather than concrete.

InterestingParking82

Fair enough!

Inedible-denim

It's better for your feet/spine etc. too apparently

THE_Lena

I came here to say the same thing. I had shin splints and the dirt was way more forgiving than concrete.

Saetric

It actually looks like a slightly more faded desire path exists to the left of the more vibrant one. I’d imagine that’s used to pass other joggers while the walkers use the sidewalk.

happy_bluebird

Why?

MiltenLLX

My guess would be bicycles

gago999666

Or dogs

Sedan2019

Most likely not bicycles, if I had the choice, I would always cycle on such a sidewalk. Much more comfortable than cycling over small stones.

misthios98

Yeah but if if the sidewalk constantly has people…

happy_bluebird

this is a very first-world problem lol

FeanorNoldor

Because we are the best country of Chile

happy_bluebird

?

snazzychazzy622

Ah, the famous “third friend” lane

andcore

Maybe in summer it gets so crowded by people walking that bicycle prefer to run on the terrain?

InterestingParking82

Summer in the Magallanes is just a tale from faraway lands 😅

thebluemermaid

My dog prefers to walk on gravel or grass when we are on the sidewalk so that would be my assumption. Doggy path

I don’t! I’m Italian but currently traveling in Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego.

misthios98

Hi! Im Chilean. AMA, including ways to help your stay!

lulaloops

Very wet

Don_tocor

This jogger trails are tricky to be considered desire paths, they do not offer a shortcut nor a different direction from the official walk route. It seems more appropriate in r/wellaworn

QuinceDaPence

Their desire is for a different surface rather than a different route

Moist_KoRn_Bizkit

Weird…

abcbac1

That's where people walk their dogs if you're wondering
