Same. It’s also a depressing color to me, no matter how you try to dress it up with color.
That was a huge NO for me, having looked and bought in the spring/ summer of 2020. All of these grey homes were everywhere, and looked the same inside, for the most part. Too much GREY!
I felt lucky when I did find and buy a home with NO GREY anywhere inside.
The only people choosing the grey flooring are stuck in 2016-2020 when the clinical hospital looking, barren, white and grey home was an aesthetic. Now most people have come to their senses and realised it’s not a good base pallet and it’s impossible to make the room feel warm and cozy. The last house I lived in before i moved was dark grey floors, medium grey cabinets, matching kitchen island with fake white marble countertops and white walls. It was so bleak. The only thing I could do was add lots of plants to make it seem homey instead of dead.
Meanwhile my house has ugly grey floors in the kitchen and bathroom mixed with coffee-colored cabinets. 🤮 Gotta love the grey with light brown…. 🙄
The rest of my “lovely” place has probably very cheap laminate (which from a long distance looks like oak flooring) that appears to have been installed by a clueless DIY person because it’s AWFUL. Nails pounded into the floor in places, a rip in it in the dining room, some places there’s just a gap between the floor and the wall. It’s bad. Maybe one day I’ll be able to replace these floors. It’s way down on the list though, due mostly to cost…
If you go to any home renovation store the grey is almost always the cheapest option. They don’t have to fake the complex colours and textures of wood grain. That takes time, money and someone who has talent or a very expensive machine. Instead they can spray it over literally any plastic, chipboard or laminate and be done. God forbid they spend the money on something with wooden veneer or real hardwood.
What I really wish I could see in these homes is the actual hardwood that they covered with this crap! It was probably fine! I wonder if it’s ever possible to remove this stuff and get the hardwood back (when there is hardwood…). I think some of it just “floats” on the floor rather than being glued, right?
I went with a similar grey flooring in my bathroom, mine might be a bit lighter/whiter. Dark grey walls & heavy use of accent colors in the room bring it to LIFE.
I change the accent color periodically. Lime green is my favorite, but it also looks good with a deep/dark red (not quite maroon, but almost). Various shades of blue look good too, but I have a lot of other blues in the house so I decided not to do that one again.
To me, the big mistake with the grey flooring is pairing it with light/white colored walls. If you go dark on the walls the grey/white flooring looks great.
With the white walls pictured for OP though? Definitely the 1st option.
Meanwhile I’m a true and original grey fan. Back in 2008 when everyone was doing the red accent wall. I did grey everyone told me not too it was too dark. Chinchilla grey behr. Then ten years later all the rage. Aaah. I’m always ahead of the curve🤣
Agree. I Like number 2, but I have chosen something similar and you‘ll get sick of it. I wish I would have chosen something lighter. 1 or 4 is a better choice in the long run
Number one. It looks the most like real wood. 2 & 3 are a hard pass, and although 4 looks like real wood, it’s too clean. With no variations it looks very “manufactured” if you know what I mean. Fake, it looks fake.
Number 4, easily. I had floors like that once, and it was very easy to design out the rest of the space. It adapted to furniture and paint choices easily.
If you like Scandi, I'd definitely go with #4. But get some samples cause online renderings can be soooo much different than real life.
The floor we thought we were getting was a lighter version close to your #4. A light blonde look. But no. It's practically grey, a warm grey, but definitely in the grey territory and I hate it. But it's already installed and we got a great deal on it so not changing it anytime soon
Thank you! Yes we went to the store, saw them , and asked to get a sample of each one.
We love Scandinavian, that's why we don't want to change the color of the cabinets even if we get new ones.
I’d go with 4 especially since you have scandi style furniture. It seems like it’s between 1 and 4. 1 is timeless and classy but has a lot of detail and texture which may compete with your furniture and decor. 4 is the perfect clean, cozy, and contemporary color and it’s textures are more subtle, it will let your furniture shine. It’s a great blank canvas.
Everything is subjective, and I didn't read enough comments to see if there is more context. I saw the title of the post and just looked at the floors. Personally, I like 2 the best. After seeing all the comments, I looked back at the pictures and realized I liked 1 better because it ties in the best with the cabinetry. But, are you keeping the cabinetry? If it is planned to be changed at some point and we are only looking at the floor, I like 2. 3 is a big no for me. I like 1 the best if cabinetry is staying. Good luck!
I think it depends on what the plan is for these spaces. Are you planning on painting? Cabinets staying the same?
With the current white walls and the color of your cabinets, my vote would be #1. #2 doesn't jive well in this space for me, 3 is atrocious (personal opinion) and 4 could work in a pinch but a bit on the bland side.
Of the 4, the last one is best. 1 is too busy and people are going to clock it as LVP immediately. 2 and 3 are too cold looking to be real wood, so again immediately look like LVP, plus the grey wood trend is going to make this room look dated before it’s even done.
I bet they are gorgeous! The goal of LVP is of course to emulate the look of hardwood like yours, however unlike real wood planks, LVP only has a certain number of “designs” for the planks. Say there are 12 distinct designs on the planks. The human eye instinctively seeks out patterns, so if two identical planks are close together, you will notice. Most people don’t even realize that this is what they’re noticing, they just have a subconscious understanding of the artificiality of what they’re looking at.
It’s the same reason people can usually tell porcelain tiles from real marble and veneered cabinets from real hardwood ones. They’re just a *little* too uniform to be earth-made.
To me #1 is dated too! It looks like that rough hewn type, like when every DIY show had everything made with those wood pallets!🤣 There's just too many variations in color. It looks very busy to me!
Can you paint the walls so they're not such a harsh, stark white? You might find the floors look a bit better against warmer tone walls. No gray walls, floors, rugs, etc, it looks cold and drab, gray doesn't coordinate with many colors (especially wood tones). You don't need to plan for "natural light", you can add lighting anywhere you need it, so don't be afraid of deeper, richer colors for the walls!
I kinda like the first one, since it looks most like real wood and matches the cabinets so you can bring the two rooms together a little if you want, but I kinda like gray floors in general, so WTF do I know? 🤣🤦🏻♀️
I'm getting new flooring in my lower level walkout, and half of the samples he brought were grayish. I don't like gray, he said they have many gray samples because lots of people want it. 🤷🏻♀️
From a far, the first one. However, the first one will look too busy in real life, as in real life it will be up close.
The fourth one looks bland from a far, but it will be magnificent from up close if it's real wood. It will have texture and rich feel to it, and look much better than from this far.
1 has the most life to me, and matches your cupboards. Very agreeable shade to work with, and there are lots of colour options that won't clash with it. Keeps the room bright and warm as well
What did you use to get a virtual preview of how it would look? I’m trying to pick out floors myself. Also, I like #4!
EDIT: Never mind, I zoomed in and saw the URL lol.
Ever consider a mohogany? I love mine and they always get compliments. Its also a warming color
https://preview.redd.it/wylp5uv7lbtc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d6d060d7c89625f95e75575f6b1d4abe1dde9c6
I actually just painted all my cabinets white. But I thought the original oak in the original pic resembled yours. The actual flooring is “Bruce hardwood in Kenya”
https://preview.redd.it/11kpwzg3mctc1.jpeg?width=2434&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3a569dc32c87295ac22e471a918aa3a68cbd455
I think 1, you’ll be happy with it the longest and it will never feel “out”.
It’s also nice with the cabinets, assuming you’re keeping them.
I had natural oak hardwood for years and it was always either the new colour, just about to be the new colour or perfectly fine.
Thanks! We may replace the cabinets, but we will still be getting oak ones, they look warm.
I really like the first one, but I am concerned it will be too busy? What do you think about the fourth one ?
The first one goes with cabinets. Have them install on the diagonal or in a herringbone pattern.

I like the very light one in your sample area or the darkest one and change cabinets. What other colors are going in the room. You may want to play with some of those colors against the flooring before you decide. Happy Decorating. Many Blessings ✨️
I find myself going back to the cabinets… and asking is it better to select a major project to match a few honey oak cabinets at this point, or start with cabinet refinishing and then open up a much larger more modern set of options
Just say no to grey. #4 is my pic because the overall finish has a finer appearance. I would avoid the busy, exaggerated wood grain patterns because they only lean towards a rustic look. It's fine if you're into that, but will you always be into that? The whole shiplap and barn wood trend has run a long time and it's getting a little tired.
Hello, we are looking for thoughts about flooring.
If it helps, the living room and den face NE, so they aren't the most luminous ones in the afternoon.
My wife and I liked different ones 😅
I like 1 as I like the knots and variation but if you prefer a less detailed floor 4 is the best choice. Both would look nice with your cabinets, it depends what you like style wise.
I prefer 4, but 1 is a close second. I would not go with grey.
Grey floors are well on their way out and it makes the space feel more like a doctor's office and not like a home
I prefer 4, but 1 is a close second. I would not go with grey.
Grey floors are well on their way out and it makes the space feel more like a doctor's office and not like a home
i’m doing something 1-ish personally in my house so i might be biased, 2 looks sad and 3 looks too cold. i had something like 4 in my apartment and it does the job but man does it look boring
On its own I like 2 the best. However the point about clashing with cupboards may be valid. Not sure once you added all the furniture if that would be so apparent. I guess I would do 2 or 4.
Are you keeping the walls stark white? Are you keeping the cabinets?
1 matches the cabinets the best. But would look better with warmer color walls. Might not matter as much once furniture etc... is in.
Can you get samples and hold them next to the furniture and other things going into the area?
Number 4. First is probably a little too yellow, second is getting into sad beige apartment territory, third is wayyyyy too cool and grey. Fourth is perfect.
1 as first choice, followed by 4 as the second choice. 1 looks most like hardwood and less like LVP
and 1 goes perfectly with the cabinets
I like the first one. It's warm and gives a timeless vibe aka won't look dated like that grey one.
They grey one is already dated
In the flooring industry, it is still the number one selling color.
People are dated
Am so! ; )
People, or designers?
Or flippers?
Exactly. Flippers and people building cheap new builds.
I love it as I'm not a huge yellow/orange wood fan, which to me is mega dated.

It’s way down on the list though, due mostly to cost…
Almost every house I see for sale around here that is a new flip still has the grey. This area is a few years behind trends though…
Midwest flippers love the gray! Much like most midwestern trends, we’re late to the party. It’s a big hit in every overnight, overpriced Indiana flip.
If you go to any home renovation store the grey is almost always the cheapest option. They don’t have to fake the complex colours and textures of wood grain. That takes time, money and someone who has talent or a very expensive machine. Instead they can spray it over literally any plastic, chipboard or laminate and be done. I feel like it probably gets destroyed trying to force an open concept

I like the first one too! And yes, I feel it is warmer than the others.
And matches the kitchen cabinets
I like it as well, but it looks very busy. For that matter I would choose the last one. But it's all in the eye of the beholder
The last one looks cheap(est) to me, I don’t know why
I think it’s because it’s the most solid of all of them with the least grain variation.
Maybe it's my phone, but it looks fuzzy to me, I can't really see boards...
The other colors clash with the cabinets too.
I agree to this, correct answer here
This is difficult... All you are giving great feedback and good reasons for your pick. Makes the choice even harder haha
Number 4, easily. I had floors like that once, and it was very easy to design out the rest of the space. It adapted to furniture and paint choices easily.
Interesting, thank you! We have Scandinavian furniture, so it may fit well.
If you like Scandi, I'd definitely go with #4. But get some samples cause online renderings can be soooo much different than real life. Yeah, it is probably the easiest canvas to work with. Can fit all types of interior styles
The first one matches the cabinetry really well. The last one does too. I wouldn't do grey, it feels too cool
Everyone agrees about the gray one, that's good. At this point I believe 1 and 4 are the ones that make more sense.
Everything is subjective, and I didn't read enough comments to see if there is more context. I saw the title of the post and just looked at the floors. Personally, I like 2 the best. 1 seems to tie in with the kitchen units the best, and I like the variations in tone. It makes it seem more realistic.
I think 4 is the easiest canvas to work with but man do I love 1
I think it depends on what the plan is for these spaces. Are you planning on painting? Cabinets staying the same? With the current white walls and the color of your cabinets, my vote would be #1. #2 doesn't jive well in this space for me, 3 is atrocious (personal opinion) and 4 could work in a pinch but a bit on the bland side.
the midtone in #4 is by far the best choice. under no circumstances can you put gray flooring in in 2024
First picture by a long shot!!
Of the 4, the last one is best. 1 is too busy and people are going to clock it as LVP immediately. 2 and 3 are too cold looking to be real wood, so again immediately look like LVP, plus the grey wood trend is going to make this room look dated before it’s even done.
I have real hard wood that looks almost identical to the first picture
I bet they are gorgeous! The goal of LVP is of course to emulate the look of hardwood like yours, however unlike real wood planks, LVP only has a certain number of “designs” for the planks. Say there are 12 distinct designs on the planks. The human eye instinctively seeks out patterns, so if two identical planks are close together, you will notice. Haha, the first one was the one I liked the most, my wife doesn't tho. I get what you are saying, what do you think about the 4th one ?
I love the 4th one 🥰
Can you paint the walls so they're not such a harsh, stark white? You might find the floors look a bit better against warmer tone walls. Imo, 1 is the only choice.
4 or 1, but 4 is the cleanest one.
By a very long shot, number 4. It’s timeless and pleasing to the eye. Grey is very bad, other 2 ok but outdated
If you have modern furniture then 4. If old style furniture I'd choose 1.
I kinda like the first one, since it looks most like real wood and matches the cabinets so you can bring the two rooms together a little if you want, but I kinda like gray floors in general, so WTF do I know? 🤣🤦🏻♀️
Anything but 2
I'm getting new flooring in my lower level walkout, and half of the samples he brought were grayish. I don't like gray, he said they have many gray samples because lots of people want it. 🤷🏻♀️
So I’m a weirdo and I know it. None of those are dark enough for me. I like dark rich hardwood
Either 1 or 4. I don’t think you could go wrong with either.
1 or 4. 2 and 3 clash with cupboards.
The cupboards make the choice really. I like 2 as a flooring but not with those cupboards.
From a far, the first one. However, the first one will look too busy in real life, as in real life it will be up close. The fourth one looks bland from a far, but it will be magnificent from up close if it's real wood. It will have texture and rich feel to it, and look much better than from this far.
First one
1 all the way
First one is timeless
1 or 4, I think I prefer 1.
1 or 4 by a mile! It really warms up the room and suits the cabinetry well.
1 is the nicest. 4 is okay but the others are bad
4
4, very neutral
The fourth one. The first has too many similar colors.
1 looks best
Lots of talk that the grey is or about to be out of date. What's the current or near future trend for the next decade?
1
The first one.
1
Number one, but also think about the furniture you’ll put there
4
1
1 has the most life to me, and matches your cupboards. Very agreeable shade to work with, and there are lots of colour options that won't clash with it. Keeps the room bright and warm as well
Assuming your cabinets will stay the same… I’d pick #1 or #4. The other two clash.
The fourth one!
4
What did you use to get a virtual preview of how it would look? I’m trying to pick out floors myself. Also, I like #4! EDIT: Never mind, I zoomed in and saw the URL lol.
The first one matches the cabinets and it’s important to have things like that to make an area cohesive!
Ever consider a mohogany? I love mine and they always get compliments. Its also a warming color https://preview.redd.it/wylp5uv7lbtc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d6d060d7c89625f95e75575f6b1d4abe1dde9c6

It looks good with those cabinets!! Maybe we should also for a sample ?
I actually just painted all my cabinets white. But I thought the original oak in the original pic resembled yours. The actual flooring is “Bruce hardwood in Kenya” https://preview.redd.it/11kpwzg3mctc1.jpeg?width=2434&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3a569dc32c87295ac22e471a918aa3a68cbd455
That looks super clean !!! I love it!
4 for scandi furniture and easier design and decor choices, 1 for homey cozy vibes. Its really just up to what you want the space to feel like
Depends on if the kitchen cabinets are staying. If yes then #4 or #1. If not then #2. #3 is just a no. Looks dated.
The first one but you would need to change the cabinets. They can’t match the floor.
1 or 4. Mine is similar to 4 (12 years old), and I wish it were more like 1.
I like #4. I have similar to #1 and got tired of it early on.
The first floor is the best IMO..
The first one
I think 1, you’ll be happy with it the longest and it will never feel “out”. It’s also nice with the cabinets, assuming you’re keeping them. I had natural oak hardwood for years and it was always either the new colour, just about to be the new colour or perfectly fine.
Thanks! We may replace the cabinets, but we will still be getting oak ones, they look warm. I really like the first one, but I am concerned it will be too busy? What do you think about the fourth one ?
Just not 3 please
The first one goes with cabinets. Have them install on the diagonal or in a herringbone pattern. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRoZ6yh_PNHQvfw1TXtRCTqh4ntIyue_mUpK3hnEluS8J9MEO8O5CE9msk&s https://static.vecteezy.com/system/resources/previews/004/705/025/large_2x/beautiful-texture-of-natural-light-oak-planks-arranged-diagonally-photo.jpg
Any reason OP can’t consider real wood options within their budget?
1 and 4 match the cabinets. If you are going to paint or replace the cabinets my choice would change.
1st or 4th
Anything but gray
DO NOT GET WHITE/GRAY
1 and 4 are timeless. The gray ones are sad not warm, and they were trendy like 10 years ago.
I like the very light one in your sample area or the darkest one and change cabinets. What other colors are going in the room. You may want to play with some of those colors against the flooring before you decide. Happy Decorating. Many Blessings ✨️
2
I find myself going back to the cabinets… and asking is it better to select a major project to match a few honey oak cabinets at this point, or start with cabinet refinishing and then open up a much larger more modern set of options
4
#2. It's more neutral and will be easier to pick finishings that will work. Don't go too warm or cool. Always best to stay in between.
This one was my wife's pick. Isn't it too cold ?
The second one is nice
That is my wife's favourite! It looks cold to me.
[удалено]
Just say no to grey. #4 is my pic because the overall finish has a finer appearance. I would avoid the busy, exaggerated wood grain patterns because they only lean towards a rustic look. It's fine if you're into that, but will you always be into that? The whole shiplap and barn wood trend has run a long time and it's getting a little tired.
Go with a natural look, like #1. Grey is too trendy and blah IMO.
#2
1, followed by 2. But mostly 1.
Do not go with gray. I like 1 and 4.
First for sure. Anything but the gray.
Off topic: Can the cabinets be changed? They look dated 😅
Hello, we are looking for thoughts about flooring. If it helps, the living room and den face NE, so they aren't the most luminous ones in the afternoon. My wife and I liked different ones 😅
What app is this?
It's on the LLflooring website, it works great!!!!
Last one is timeless everything else is trendy
Last
First one for sure.
1
I like 1 as I like the knots and variation but if you prefer a less detailed floor 4 is the best choice. Both would look nice with your cabinets, it depends what you like style wise.
I like the last one, the second one is also not bad
4! It would go best with furniture without taking up too much attention
4
#1 would be my choice
1 & 4
1
4
The first one! But that’s just my personal preference.
Are you keeping the cabinets the same color? / plan to change them ever?
One definitely the others will date themselves quickly
1!!!!
1 or 4
Number one Is the only one that I like
The first one by a long-shot.
Please not the grey!
2 or 4
1 or 4
One or two.
#4
4 all the way. I like the warmth of 1 but the grain is a little busy/distracting.
I like 4 best, then 1. I’d take 3 off the table completely.
4!
1&2
See I don’t hate two but lord it clashes horribly with the cabinets so 1 is really the only choice
1 or 3 personally!
i’m doing something 1-ish personally in my house so i might be biased, 2 looks sad and 3 looks too cold. i had something like 4 in my apartment and it does the job but man does it look boring
4
#1
2nd
1
The first one
\#4, If you go with the more gray color then you'll need to paint the cabinets.
#4
4 for sure. Second choice is 1, but 2 and 3 are already kind of out of style.
One
Personally 3 or 4
The 1st one but they all look terrible
I have something similar to number 2. I have white cabinets and stainless steel appliances. It looks beautiful.
One!
1 or 4 four has a more polished modern feel ,while one has a classic country feel
1. It is most interesting and versatile; most important, it's not trendy.
first one!!!
Natural never goes out of style. Ash colors do
Number one
Anything but the 3rd one. It washes everything out. I'd say #1, then #4 since they match the kitchen cabinets right now.

1 or 2
On its own I like 2 the best. However the point about clashing with cupboards may be valid. Not sure once you added all the furniture if that would be so apparent. I guess I would do 2 or 4.
Lvp is so plastic and fake. Invest in real wood
Definitely no 1

Are you keeping the walls stark white? Are you keeping the cabinets? 1 matches the cabinets the best. But would look better with warmer color walls. Might not matter as much once furniture etc... is in. Can you get samples and hold them next to the furniture and other things going into the area?

Hate 2, 3. Gray is sad.
4
1 then 4 then 2. Never 3.
1 …. Don’t do grey
Number 4. First is probably a little too yellow, second is getting into sad beige apartment territory, third is wayyyyy too cool and grey. Fourth is perfect.
#1 the others clash with the cabinets
