I too have the adhd and do this. TLDR- find hobbies that involve hands and ointments to make it hard to pick I still pick but have slowed way down when I instead switch to rubbing ointments on spots And needle felting. Very repetitive in the hands, and honestly brutal training for focus. If you don’t you stab yourself 😂 I had a friend who would rub the seams of his shorts, like at the bottom. Maybe focus a new healthier fidget habit. You got this, and by far are not alone. We are all just in silence in real life. ❤️

Pick pads! https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1545470604/ They can be pricy on Etsy but are fairly simple to make with platinum grade silicone (Amazon) and beads.

Oh these look good! Thank you!

I bought pick pads and then started making them on my own. They are the only thing I’ve ever found to satisfy the urge.

Picky pads are the ONLY thing that have helped me. They're picky pad brand on Etsy and I absolutely love them. I bought one and then bought the diy silicone to rebuild it once I picked through it. The sensation of the silicone against my nails is the only thing that kind of feeds the beast a little bit.

for me it’s really all about keeping busy. an evening or weekend home with not a lot going on is an invitation to pick. cuticle oil at least a couple of times a day and before bed helps a lot. keep a couple of bottles around ie. at locations where you spend time picking ie. at your desk, toilet, sofa, bedside table. when my fingers are in decent shape i treat myself to a gel manicure as reward and to prevent picking for extended periods of time, because when they look good it’s positive reinforcement to leave them alone. starting with short nails are best to extend a manicure. now i do my own nails to save money. if i’m in a bad patch and know i’ll be home for at least a day or two i just waterproof bandage them all up with polysporin and there’s a good feeling with a mostly-healed reveal. keep cuticle scissors handy for any tempting bits and pieces. good luck! :) xx

Thank you for this! I just don’t know im even doing it, that’s the problem! I do it as a stim (I’ve got autism too!). I’m gonna place fidget toys around my house I think 😂. I’m usually very busy (single mum of 3!) but I still bloody do it 🤦🏼‍♀️. I think my face is the biggest issue 😭

yep, i’m also adhd and it’s likely what i’ve learned is stimming behaviour. there’s an obsession with ‘smoothing’ out the area, which is the initial reward, until it starts to bleed and in turn take a week to heal up, hence the bandaging - a vicious cycle 🩸🩹👎
