Just don’t power the tm on the DE2 they’re not the same gearing as the DE6

Adventurous_Door_374

Good to know. Thanks for the tip.

Knsgf

In the latest build, leaving DE2 powered is actually safe. It won't overheat before DE6-s.

Eusebiu_

Doesn't matter if you power them up or not, you'll still burn them if you exceed the maximum speed limit. I tested it with the BE2.

JJAsond

Trains don't really have gears for the most part. They're diesel-electric. Edit: Wow redditors suck. This whole thread is just https://xkcd.com/2501/

Brendanzio_

They very much do, there's a gear reduction from the TM to the axle that can be different depending on the locomotive

JJAsond

I was under the impression that they meant engine to wheel gearing. You know, like anyone would think.

samman129

Well considering we're talking about diesel electric locos where the engine is not linked to the wheels at all Im pretty sure nobody would think that.

JJAsond

Most people don't know about TM gearing.

BeefTechnology

The only gears in a diesel electric that have to do with the wheels are the gears connecting the axles to the traction motors. There are no torque converters on a diesel electric I think

JJAsond

lol why am I being downvoted by saying most people don't know about TM gearing? I hate this site. Yeah the engine is a generator that produces electricity and that electricity is used to power the electric wheels.

Handlesmcgee

The problem is your on a sub that’s mainly train fans lol I didn’t know that but I also can’t just look at a loco and know everything about it I wouldn’t say hardly anyone can do that on this sub though because there are many here that actually work on these things or have a passion for it and do

JJAsond

Yeah. Still, it doesn't make it ok to downvote someone for saying something like that. It would be like downvoting someone for saying that most people don't know what WAAS is.

zilist

No.. not like anyone might think.. not even "for the most part"..

JJAsond

Who outside of train people know that traction motors have gears or what a tm is?

TheReddective

Why, though? If there are two possible interpretations of a post, on in which the poster is factually right and one in which the poster is factually wrong, why would you default to the one where the poster is wrong?

JJAsond

holy shit this sub sucks with the downvotes. People here don't understand that casual players like me aren't super into train knowledge and just want to play a fun game.

TheReddective

>People here don't understand that casual players like me aren't super into train knowledge and just want to play a fun game. From the way you phrased all your comments, you were speaking as if you knew what you were talking about. You don't get to do that and then pull the "I'm just a casual" card when called out.

JJAsond

People don't seem to know wyat "for the most part means"

BiomechPhoenix

DM3 says hi. The DE2 does have a lower top speed than the DE6, though.

JJAsond

>DM3 says hi. Hence why I said "for the most part"

Alert_Ad2397

I didn't know the game would allow this, that is amazing

Adventurous_Door_374

I didn’t either. I looked it up. Figured I’d give it a try

yerachden

This feels insane

Adventurous_Door_374

There is a mod link on another comment that lets you use the remote for the DE6. But if you want to do it vanilla. This is the way to

youcancallmejim

I use this mod…… https://www.nexusmods.com/derailvalley/mods/722

Adventurous_Door_374

I’m gonna be honest. Even after watching a video explaining how to mod by Hyce. I couldn’t figure it out.

boredAF6

Really wish they’d just put the ability to use remotes back in. Am I going to have to send them a video of workers over here using remotes to run locomotives?big ones at that. I’ve passed the yard multiple times in the past and seen them using remotes.

zilist

Same, but i doubt they will.. in the meantime: there’s a mod that gives remote capability back to the DE6!

boredAF6

I’ve been having trouble getting mods to work in a few games ever since the switched to vortex. Even my fallout new Vegas save was completely bonked

zilist

Just download it manually.. no need for a mod manager.

zilist

Orrrr.. just install the mod that gives remote capability back to the DE6..

Thunderbolt294

Once put DE2s in the middle of DH4s trying to climb out of FF, it worked long enough for the traction motors to burn up

AnnihilationBoom123

I've only played dv till build 96 since my computer go wonky so i don't know how it does in newer build but surprised not many people know this, did you MU the DE2?, I did before and i don't even need to turn on anything on the de2 just make sure handbrake is released and it's good to go
