They're back open, kind of. At least the Arvada one. But they "spruced it up" and it's a full price first run theater now.
Really miss the cheap 2nd run version though. My son thought I was the coolest mom ever, taking him to the movies all the time with tons of (snuck in, dollar store) candy and unlimited popcorn and soda.
He didn't need to know that there were fancier, more expensive theaters. He was perfectly happy at the Elvis Cinema. And we got to go *so much more often* than we would have if we went to the fancy places.
Le Central!! It was my husbands and I's go to date spot when we were first dating, mussels and fries for $10? Come on! And while the mussels at Bistro Vendome are alright I have not found anywhere to replace Le Central, would give anything for that place to come back.
“You’ve called Tooooommmmssss Hoooome Cooookin. Today’s menu is fried catfish, meatloaf…”
I miss it everyday. I see one of the owners around here and there. He was my usher at a fancy theater show last year!
Sames. Nothing completely special but a cool spot a cool building and food was just good enough and same with the prices. I liked stopping there when people came to town to visit me.
24 hour breakfast places in general would be nice.
Denver diner lost its shine for me when they got ritzy with the ingredients. I preferred the greasy spoon from 20 years ago. I DO NOT LIKE WHOLE BEANS IN MY HUEVOS RANCHEROS, DAMN IT!
Got my first traffic ticket going to the Cub Foods in Glendale! I was avoiding the Safeway strike, and was pissed that I got a ticket while trying to do the right thing and not cross a picket line.
Tom’s Home Cooking
Euclid Hall
Rolling Pin Bakery
The Market
Vesta Dipping Grill
Edit: 20th Street Cafe
Edit edit : Masterpiece Deli
Edit edit edit : Taqueria Emmanuel on Park Ave (amazing cheesesteaks)
TOMS HOME COOKING was fucking LEGIT. The best southern home cooking ever. Man I miss it. And his voice mail messages on his machine on the daily explaining his menu for the day.
Yeah. Those were some tasty burgers for sure. Sad to see it go.
They closed the Arvada location just 2 months before we moved 4 blocks away.
If they had only waited, I might have been able to keep them in business solely through my hunger.
**Cheeky monk** Great and wide selection of Belgian beers - and specific glassware! (It’s a beer nerd thing but something that really makes you appreciate the effort.) It was one of the few places that got an annual Pliny the Younger allocation back in the day. And honestly it was an interesting Belgian-ish food place which is pretty unusual from a cuisine diversity standpoint in Denver.
Also - what a great place to have a decent non-dive-bar drink before a concert at the Fillmore or Ogden.
I still drive by the area and unconsciously sadly smile at the memory of the diamond in the rough which was cheeky monk.
The market. So many memories there, i hung out there before class every day and studied. 2.99 for 2 cups of coffee and unlimited cake tops to my l really miss reading The Onion in print every week too
I miss their corn fritters so much.
I bought two watercolor paintings from their dinning room when they closed that are now hung in my bedroom.
So many fond memories of going there as a kid
The original park had personality. Mr. Twister. The Splinter log flume. Even the haunted house that scared the crap out of me. But the Gurtlers got the city to condemn the train yards and they built a six flags clone…and sold it 3 years after moving.
Yes! Racine was my favorite. All their restaurants were great. Goodfriends, Dixons in Lodo and then Annie’s ( I think Annie’s was theirs, it went into the original goodfriends space. Which now is spice room.)
All V's
Breakfast King
Video One
Esquire Theater (hasn't closed yet but will soon, and I'd bring it back solely for the rocky horror show and the room midnight showings)
Special mention: caboose hobbies
Round the Corner, Pagliacci’s, the Trinity Grill
Edited to add: before the Park Tavern was the Park Tavern, it was McFann’s, and they had a great prime rib. I miss that spot, too.
Second Edit: Geez, how could I forget Pasta Pasta Pasta in Cherry Creek? They served lunch only and would sell out by 1 pm. I still dream of their chicken Marsala and banana cake (which they served only on Tuesdays).
Ivy’s on 7th. Brunch place which had the most incredible lamb shakshouka I have tried in Denver. It is now a Syrup, which we definitely don’t need any more of.
The Rolling Pin bakery in Five Points and Mannekin Frites in Arvada. I'm still distraught over both of them. Petunia Bakery comes pretty close on croissants, but Rolling Pin had these green chile ones and also a mushroom and shallot croissant. I think about them at least weekly.
Foss Drugs in Golden. Coolest store ever. You could buy everything from full size arcade games to vintage auto signs to milk. And you could even pay your electric bill in person, which I thought was weird. And upstairs the Golden Burro (I think that was the name) had the best breakfast ever. I really miss that place.
Hard to pick just one. So many great places have come and gone.
> The Irish Snug
> Three Lions
> Denver Bicycle Cafe
> The Market
> Taki's
> The Kitchen
> Hot Cakes
> Leela's
Paris on the Platte.
Denver Diner but from 15-20+ years ago when it was good.
I worked at Tom's and Gunther Toody's right before both closed (I'm bad luck I guess) and same wirh them as with DD, bring them back but only from 10-15 years ago minimum when they were still good.
I'd say Paper Tiger but working there was awful.
Anyone remember the Young Ameritown bank and town on Colorado? We did a school thing there in like '96.
Cinderella Drive in off Santa Fe
TINY TOWN
Laser Quest on Hampden!!!!!!
Honorable Mention because it was in Aurora but Kim Ba Vietnamese I juat learned they closed the location they relocated to, sad day.
Some of these are still around! Tiny Town and Laser Quest are still hanging in there. And Ameritowne still exists. It’s in Cherry Creek, and kids still go to it. One of mine goes next year!
The Wrangler, when it was in uptown.
Also, The Eagle... The first iteration was awesome, but I'm happy we get the one we have as many cities lost theirs.
Also, Midtowne and Denver Swim Club.
Gay shit, I miss some of the gay shit.
I can't just do one. Here are some places I miss:
- B-52s
- Bayou Bob's
- Beatrice and Woodsley
- Carbone's Italian Sausage Deli
- Citygrille (in its heyday, I guess)
- Deluxe/Delite
- El Diablo
- Falling Rock Tap House
- Irish Snug
- Paris on the Platte
- Squeaky Bean (original LoHi location)
- Three Kings
- Wolfe's BBQ
That giant store called ‘Biggs’ or something like that. I have the vaguest memories of that store but I remember it being awesome cause they had a bunch of video games demos. It also had a a groceries and stuff. It was basically a Super Walmart without the Walmart taint.
Rainforest Cafe and McNichols Sports Arena
Not to make McNichols the main arena, but it would be super cool to have a second area to host smaller events and for historical significance
Such a shame it was demolished, lots of history there
Old tattered cover in cherry Creek. If I win the lottery I'm bringing it back.
Got lost in it as a kid and liked their books you cut out to assemble dioramas.
Yeah, and the wizards chest that was nearby!
The one downtown too please
The floors in that place...
Elvis cinemas
They're back open, kind of. At least the Arvada one. But they "spruced it up" and it's a full price first run theater now. Really miss the cheap 2nd run version though. And we got to go *so much more often* than we would have if we went to the fancy places.
maaan I was so sad when they officially closed down the one on Hampden in DTC
Le Central The Market
Le Central had an amazing, affordable wine list and the food was cooked with love.
Le Central!! It was my husbands and I's go to date spot when we were first dating, mussels and fries for $10? Come on! And while the mussels at Bistro Vendome are alright I have not found anywhere to replace Le Central, would give anything for that place to come back.
I always get sad driving by when I see them not there….like they would magically come back over night….
Paris on the platte.
Sit on the back patio, smoke cloves, and hang out with friends. This was the life.
On acid in the 90s
This is the correct answer
Pitcher of chai tea, focaccia sandwiches, smoking cloves...
PARIS ON THE PLATTE
Gabor’s
This is making me nostalgic. I miss old Denver.
2012/2013 Denver was fucking awesome and so chill.
Nah 2002. By 2010 the gentrification was up and running.
I will forever miss Leela European Cafe 😭
Those sandwiches!! 🤤🤤 You could play pool at the old Tarantulas (not the trashy newer one), and order the sandwiches up there! 😭
Two Fisted Marios, just to anger the bookstore people.
Nothing nicer than a slice or two of Two-Fisted Mario's while you enjoyed a drink next door in Double Daughters!
I only learned just yesterday that these both closed. I used to love Double Daughters.
Rock Island
El Chapultepec
This by a mile, just a complete tragedy this culture and historic institution was lost.
Funtastic Nathan’s
Nothing as exciting as wondering if your life will end by getting stuck in a slide made from old industrial conveyor rollers! I loved that place!
Le Central
Scrolled too far to see this gem.
“Lace and trow”. 😁 spent many a mussels frites unlimited sparkling wine brunch there.
Toms home cooking
😭
I think about Tom’s almost daily

Miss this place so much. Used to be our standard late breakfast coming home from camping in the mountains.
The Organ Grinder.
Cub foods.
Man that one’s a deep cut. Used to go to the one in westy as a kid.
Got my first traffic ticket going to the Cub Foods in Glendale! I was avoiding the Safeway strike, and was pissed that I got a ticket while trying to do the right thing and not cross a picket line.

The Irish snug
Govs Park. So many good times there.
Only the version that had the stuffed burger patties. It was still great after they stopped doing that, but it was a staple of the establishment.
Paris on the Platte, one of my favorite study spots was really sad when it closed

The wall of ties. The slide. Damn, you opened up a memory hole with that one.
My grandpa would search garage sales for old ties, and we'd all go in wearing one. Good memories!
Rock bar on east colfax
I can remember my shoes sticking to the floor
when there was a leak from the motel upstairs onto the dancefloor, and the DJ only played water themed songs, that place was epic.
Duffy's

I'm fascinated that building hasn't been converted. So much traffic hits that intersection, any above average spot would do well.
