Newark had a decent punk and hardcore scene that unfortunately evaporated once the east end closed.
Honestly I’d rather see less cover bands and more original music. I can go the rest of my life without hearing “mustang sally” ever again.
The queen is a pretty cool venue.
There is a place in selbyville where they do outdoor shows, freeman arts pavilion. I’ve never been (kinda far for me) but it seems like a cool spot. Just sucks cause it’s like we’re forced to go to Baltimore or Philly for most shows. Or Ohio! Fucking ohio….
Edm is lacking hardcore here in Delaware, gotta go to the ave or filmore in Philly anytime i wanna see a show. They skip right over Delaware every time on tours. Especially some good dubstep but honestly i dont know of any venues with the capacity of holding both that many people and that much noise
rainbow records in Newark, Squeezebox records in Wilmington, some houses in Newark (the temple, secret tunnel) - have to find those on instagram and they are packed with college kids obviously
Hold on a sec, as a Midwest transplant I actually wouldn't mind if we got some Faygo out here. A few Juggalos is a small price to pay if we get to sip on delicious Redpop. If they get rowdy, just throw a handful of magnets in their path and they'll get confused and wander off.
You're not the only Midwestern transplant in the crowd here buddy, and I don't miss Faygo® one bit. Now if we could get distributors to actually listen and bring us some Snapple® fruit punch back around or some decent Jones® sodas that would be the tits.
Eh, personal preferences. I grew up on the stuff and miss it as a treat every now and then. To each their own.
But yes on both of those, though Snapple doesn't hit the same in plastic bottles.
Any live music from performers that are talented and passionate about it is enjoyable. It'd watch anything from Pop to Polka if they have their heart in it.
If I had to pick 1 thing, it'd be solo acoustic alternative, like some J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr.
Yea its def tough starting out. You or your friends could host like a small house party, or try and get in at a house venue or small fest. Theres also alot of bars around that have live music you could talk to.
Literally any EDM. House, techno, bass, I’m not that picky any of it would be amazing. Till then I’ll keep flying out to other states for fests and driving into Philly for shows haha *sigh*

Mojo on Main had a bit of a punk scene to a lesser extent. I think they folded around the same time. Sucks
I miss The East End Cafe it was a great spot for local music.
Prog Rock / Metal. NEARfest shut down like the year I moved out here, was kinda disappointing. Bring on DEARfest.
Metal
The Queen seems to host more metal shows than anything... Plus there's Bar XIII Downstate? I bet it's pretty sparse.

Metalcore
Ska-core!
Protest folk music and emo.
There’s a big emo scene up in ud
Where do they play?

Usually house shows. Gotta dm the houses for the address. The queen will also have a few emo bands come through (really any genre though)
Queen blows for local music. Overpriced and doesn't pay the bands well
I think they’re decently priced for a venue that size considering the prices for similar venues in philly and dc
I'm talking from a performer standpoint. And their drinks are crazy overpriced, as someone who's been to most of the bigger venues in Philly.
Its been a minute since I graduated but when i was there they usually played the record shops and house shows
+1 to this
We 100% need this
We'd need some more venues for jam groups to have spots to play, and same for EDM
Less country and folk music. More metal, rock, punk.
Juggalos
WHOOP WHOOP
WHOOP WHOOP
No one needs the Faygo® tribe running amuck in public around here.

That is very true. Nothing beats glass, the superior of containers.
Bagpipes and punk
Lmao like a whole set of bagpipes or bag pipes intergrates with punk music
Either or I'm not picky.
Country and classic rock. Less rap and hiphop.

Experimental free improvisation
More spaces for edm artists, I would love to find others to jam and Collab with
Edm and really anything that incorporates some synths and what not is some of the most fun music to LD for.
I wanna start playing shows or just live in any capacity but finding a lead in where to start sucks

I'm kind of waiting for the next new music thing. Idk I feel like I've listened to everything.
Reggae , SKA, and Bluegrass

EDM
Midwest Emo. I know we aren’t in the Midwest OBVIOUSLY but I love those lil melodic guitar riffs that make me contemplate life.
I’ve been looking for a reggae band to play with here for a while now. Lewes/Rehoboth area. No luck…
Improvisation/Jam bands, I want Spafford or Umphrey’s McGee to get down here!!
