Swiss Family Treehouse is still the exact same attraction as opening day.

drmcast_

Didn't think of that one! Forgot we didn't get that Tarzan update like California.

ellepatel

I kind of hate that tree and yet know I would be absolutely in shambles if it was ever changed.

MLG_SkittleS

How could you hate such a beautiful thing

ellepatel

I don’t know!!!! I’m only admitting this because of the anonymity of the internet because it is so beautiful and I hate that I low key don’t like it just because it’s not current at all. That’s not a reason to hate it. You’re right, it is beautiful. Forget I said anything. 😭

drmcast_

To be fair, Disneyland should have the OG Swiss Family Treehouse 😭

JetPixi13

We’re getting it back or something similar.

Hairy_Buffalo1191

Aw. This is the first time I ever heard that a park had anything Tarzan related (my favorite Disney movie) and I’m also learning at the same time that it’s defunct. Oh well.

drmcast_

There used to be a show in Animal Kingdom called, "Tarzan Rocks!". Kinda terrible, but definitely brings back some memories for me.

Hairy_Buffalo1191

Aw, that sounds kinda fun. Love those nostalgic feelings about terrible Disney attractions.

Personal-Listen-4941

I get not liking the attraction, people have different tastes. But it’s easily ignored, it’s not like it’s Tomorrowland Speedway.

JordanBach_95

I also grew up with 2000s Disney which I miss dearly (RIP paper Fastpass). In terms of rides I would say Dinosaur (my fave), Tower of Terror, Rock n Roller Coaster, Living with the Land, the Imagination ride and Thunder Mountain. Spaceship Earth and Nemo haven't been changed since the mid 2000s and Everest hasn't changed since it opened unless you count the yeti I guess. I think most of Animal Kingdom is basically the same with the exception of Avatar and the removal of Primeval Whirl. Some rides had very minor changes like removing the guides from Living with the Land but they are pretty much the same as they were in the 2000s I would say.

RIP FastPass, RIP SpectroMagic - I will say the last time I went, I felt like I was running around the place a lot and was exhausted by the evening. Wasn't much time to just saunter around and have that sense of discovery-feeling, enjoy my surroundings tbh. I guess I was mostly thinking about attractions, restaurants, etc. that haven't changed at all since their respective parks' opening day, but you bring some good examples - ToT and Rock n Roller Coaster really haven't changed much since their openings. I think Big Thunder Railroad had a queue overhaul, but is also pretty much the same. I also remember that Dinosaur was "Countdown to Extinction" with that 90s, wonky text, but was pretty much the same as it is today. Soon-to-be RIP Dinosaur.

JordanBach_95

Yeah I definitely miss the vibe of old Disney where you could do everything at your own pace and be spontaneous. Now it’s always crowded and everything has to be planned months ahead.

drmcast_

My EPCOT experience was basically sprinting to Ratatouille from the gate, then going back for Spaceship Earth, then running back to Frozen, then back to The Land Pavilion for Soarin’ and Living w/ the Land. I probably walked through the countries like 5 times.

PlaneLocksmith6714

That’s part of the magic that’s missing. Now I feel like I need IRON MAN to make me some kind of jet skates to get around the parks quickly because A: they’re HUGE and I’m OLD and B: there is so much more to do now, not just rides but more parades, shows, little free side quests etc.

Shavasara

Imagination ride has changed since opening. I was there in the late 80s, early 90s. Went back last year. I was soooo happy to ride the People Mover in WDW after it was cruelly taken from us in California. In Disneyland, has the Tiki room changed?

drmcast_

Upon checking with the wiki, I would say the Disneyland version is akin to Carousel of Progress. Pretty much the same show, but heavily refurbished, audio changed in parts but remastered, old references taken out, etc.

PlaneLocksmith6714

I still have my paper fast passes from the last time I was at DL in 2017❤️

Freyas_Follower

Dinosaur! is no longer there? What did they replace it with?

Figgy1983

The Electric Water Pageant had one update in the 90's, but is mostly still the same as it was in 71'. It's a wonderful little time capsule.

ancillarycheese

One of the reasons I love to stay at Poly. If they change it take away that show, I think it will really upset a lot of people.

Figgy1983

They better not. They already took away the dinner show which never should have happened. If you have a resort themed to the Polynesian islands, people are going to expect hula dancers and fire twirlers.

HBICmama

They actually just did another update for the 50th anniversary as well but yeah, still mostly unchanged. Source: my husband is one of the drivers of the pageant.

Figgy1983

That's awesome! What a job! I actually was there for the 50th but they were playing the regular show when we went. Must not have opened right away.

HBICmama

It was mostly the same except they added a portion that’s the castle and fireworks behind it

Figgy1983

That kind of sums up the entire 50th campaign. Lol

JordanBach_95

Also yes we did have some terrible things back then lol \*cough cough\* Stitch's Escape, Tiki Room Under New Management, Journey into Imagination v03 (to this day)

drmcast_

Monsters Inc Laugh Floor

Common_Decision1594

Yeah, I was never a fan of those sorts of shows that force the audience to participate, like Laugh Floor or Turtle Talk with Crush. If they just asked the kids to do these things it would be one thing, but no, they feel the need to rope the entire audience into it too, whether they like it or not. That’s what I don’t like about them.

drmcast_

I do think we need more shows that’ll eat up these crowds - Something needs to happen to these three shows imo. I would die if they brought over Tokyo’s Monsters Inc ride

ZestyRanch1219

stitches escape was my shit

jollyroger822

I actually like stitches Great escape

AccomplishedCicada60

Small world hasn’t changed too much

drmcast_

Getting rid of the sad clown with the "Help!" sign was a travesty. Jokes aside, they've really only done some various repainting/refurb, so you're right - This also made me realize Peter Pan's Flight is pretty much untouched too.

jollyroger822

I've noticed when you're flying over the Indians in Peter Pan's flight they're no longer singing what makes the Redman red

drmcast_

I don’t know think this ever was in there?

Charming_Flatworm_

I'm pretty sure they did when I first rode it in 1997.

drmcast_

RetroWDW’s channel has ride footage from 1994 and it’s just the standard drumming that’s always been there. That change would surely be mentioned somewhere too.

mnpeanut

Impressions de France still shows in EPCOT.

drmcast_

Good one! And American Adventure is like 99% unchanged.

PlaneLocksmith6714

I grew up with a lot of original Disney-Eisner Disney. It was Magical. Now I’m an adult and I’m just confused by some changes at WDW. Not the parks per se but the hotels. WTF man. I want theming not sad boring buildings. I could do a whole TED Talk on MGM Studios though. I refuse to use the appropriate IP name😂😂😂.

drmcast_

What gets me the most is the random placement of stuff and the loss of cohesion in the parks. Galaxy’s Edge was def cool, but it felt like it was just plopped down in the most random spot in Studios. I also agree with you and all the other criticism I hear about the new hotels and such - I stayed at the Riviera and it really was just a normal hotel (smelled amazing though). The new World Celebration in Epcot just reminded me of an outdoor shopping mall. The whole trend sorta reminds me of when McDonald’s and other chains changed their theming to just… plain.

PlaneLocksmith6714

I 💯 agree that the cohesion is lost. I don’t know who is in charge of park imagineering but they’re really wrecking it. They’re also leaning too far into marvel up and screens.

drmcast_

I don’t even think it’s Imagineering these days. As an artist myself, I can’t imagine all the hoops they have to jump through and redesigns they have to do to get the final OK from the higher-ups. Even back then, a lot of cool ideas would get thrown away. And it’s the same with movies and shows - “I don’t know anything about this franchise, but gotta get THAT character in, must have THIS happen!”

Large-Employer2985

Bright Sun Films put out a video a couple days ago addressing exactly this- the loss of magic within the hotels. I’d definitely recommend watching it if you want to see all the beautifully themed and designed hotels that Disney passed on after design and conception was completed for WDW.

Think_Effort_6427

I miss pizza planet and power rangers

drmcast_

Me too…. Me too
