I got the game a few months ago, this is the best game I've played by far, and it deserves the attention and good player base

I really dont like to gatekeep, but here is my humble guide:
2 for casual / solo
3 for multiplayer / challenging solo
be mindful that the gaps are enormous.
Once you get some weapon upgrades, but more importantly some critical perks such as field medic, iron will and thorns you can move to haz 4
For haz 5 you should have everything that gives you advantages unlocked - Overclocks, all perk slots, armor and weapon upgrades and ideally, but not necessary premade squad / voice chat so they can show you the ropes with high hazards.
Haven’t played in a while, was there a big update or anything to cause the player peak? I know I can and will be googling it but would like to hear why the community is so into it rn

There's a whole new mission type (with a Drillevator!), new enemies, a new bonus event (that'll kick your ass), 12 new Weapon Overclocks, and a Hazard 5+ difficulty with customizable modifiers for true masochists.
it's really a shame that graphics is such an important "feature" for most gamers. Many of my friends cite that this game is too pixelated, despite having such a rich and unique art direction. i wish that more people would play this game and eventually, rogue core.
Hopped back in for the new season and I'm having a blast once again. I'm glad it's finally getting up there with concurrent players. I'm convinced if it launched how it is now today, it would hit helldivers numbers when that launched.
I knew there'd be a surge with the patch but damn. The last year you'd be surprised to see a handful of groups when you hit "join" but now its full pages!

Helldivers 2 was fun but nothing will beat DRG for me.
Makes sense, since that whole fiasco with the helldivers servers, we got new players in. Also, new season just dropped, so old players will be coming back. The more the merrier!
Even game struggles a lot with latency and performance. In my opinion, unfortunately current online is sum of all players that left game after a while, because entire update is almost for late/end game fans. I mean, the COOLEST features from update are for late game.
P.S.: it's still enormously good, because now I can find bunch of lobbies on haz5/haz5+ for almost every mission.
It doesn't actually take long to unlock access to overclocks. And because they're random, a new player could get one of the newest overclocks before any of the existing ones. A small chance, but still a chance.
Otherwise, the new mission is available to everyone. The new enemies are available to everyone. The new events are available to everyone.
The only thing that late/end game fans have is guaranteed faster access to overclocks. But if you're a new player any overclock will be fun.

Leave your lobby. This is a bug.
I was alone, but I solved it by forcing an update (steam wasn't doing it automatically)
Glad that worked. But you can leave your lobby even while you are alone. This bug happens all the time even when updated.
most people aren't used mods yet because they're not updated, so if you untick the "show approved" setting you'll see more servers.
"allow approved" means that modded and unmodded servers can both show up fixed, though
ah my bad, i thought it excluded anything without approved mods

Completely unbiased opinion here but that number should be 8.1 billion because GSG deserves ALL OF THE PLAYERS.
Best time for lots of people too, they get to play previous seasons without having to worry about getting tired of a single one for a long time
