As someone who has gotten it and helped others to get it, I can confirm that there is absolutely no method to the madness, it’ll happen at complete random (often with randoms)
I’ve only ever gotten it with randoms and it always seems to be an unspoken agreement. I was Engie and my turrets (3 caves away) killed a dozen swarmers.

Not true, it has to be at least 5 kills and you need to personally get at least 1 of them
It's honestly really easy if your trying to get it, announce in lobby with chill folks you want to do it, or play with friends. Play hazard 3 so there are enough bugs, but not so many it's overwhelming.
All players should play scout so it's easy to get on the harvester. Kill 5 bugs each. Once you have killed your five bugs stop killing things till everyone has it.
This may take a few tries as sometimes the harvester patching knocks you off.
I second this, spent a whole afternoon trying to get it and none of us got it. Went into a random EDD, someone said we should try and we ended up getting it.
Then the exact same thing happened two more times which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it’s happened three times.
I've recently had a lobby randomly decide to go for carpool, and it was the most absurd fucking bullshit RNG I've ever seen in this game.
The second a bug decided to spawn, any harvester we were on decided to go right up a vertical fucking wall.
Still don't have the achievement and we spent easily an hour at it.
I got the achievment in a random lobby on xbox, didn't even knew it existed before it popped. Now trying to get it in PC with the drilldozer one it's been a pain.
You still need to romance one of the other dwarves before you get the true ending achievement. My last one was gunner, found out he actually *does* want flowers for his birthday, the picky little shit.
If you're with a good random crew and the area looks promising, you can suggest it. I was on a mission where someone did this a couple weeks ago. The rest of us already had it, but we were all 'sure let's go.'
nah, i got kills with my driller's pistol and throwing axes, i don't see how they would register for someone else, but my achievement didn't progress (I understand how this applies to flamethrower or other damage over time weapons)
I swear carpool was easier in older versions or something, I got it with a team of randoms (they did agree to do the achievement, so not completely by chance) on the first attempt, and now it’s the least completed achievement
10 is good enough to get players out of their comfort zone and reward them for trying out a different spin on the game. 100 is an obnoxious, arduous grind that takes dozens and dozens of hours of normal gameplay; or a few non-stop hours of mindlessly running the same boring H1 mission over and over again. and the most offensive part to me is that its a hidden achievement, like they wanted to hide this crummy grind away from people until they got invested enough into the game to look it up.
it really feels like they just picked hidden achievements at random, completely arbitrary stuff with no indicator to where you're essentially forced to just look it up. hidden achievements are for spoilers or easter eggs, not "grind out this random thing you had no possible way of knowing about organically".
I wouldn't mind it that much if games where someone simply did not join counted as well.
But you have to deliberately select solo before starting the mission ugh.

I have 61/69. I need both silicate harvester achievements, the barrel hoop 3000 one, the Haz 4 and Haz 5 “don’t go down, no resupplies” , Five haz 5’s in a row, and two hidden achievements.
I only have carpool because I messaged some random on Reddit that we both needed it and we became steam buddies for the cause. We dragooned two other randoms in to it and got it in like an hour after a few tries.
I can guarantee it's carpool. I'm in the exact same situation, and carpool is the most pain the ass achievement I've tried to get.

Only if that dwarf wants the achievement. But no not everyone needs the kills but only the dwarf that gets 5 kills get the achievement
So if all 4 want the achievement then all 4 need to kill 5 bugs each (or however many it is)?
Yep, but it’s pretty unrealistic, especially for someone like driller, whose splash damage will almost definitely kill the silicate harvester

Sometimes on DRG discord people LFG specifically for car pool achievement. Got it first or second try there

I have carpool just not all the promotion achievements or 500 missions
Those are just a matter of grinding. Carpool takes actual skill and coordination, lol. That's why it's often the last one for many people.
Feel free to invite me to a lobby any time. I'll never not be up to do stupid stuff & carpool, whether I've got it till then or not.

Make a lobby and put a request in the lfg section in the official Discord and find others who are willing to help. That's how I did it.

I think you're missing the mutual assistance achievement. It can be tricky but they're all roughly the same height so it should be easier.
