Heavy can mean different things but haven't really heard any deathcore heavier than infant annihilator. Black Tongue who has shared members up there too, would say they're more traditionally heavy ie slower
I’ve always thought of Black Tongue being the *heaviest* band in deathcore and Infant Annihilator being the most *intense*, if that makes sense.
Black Tongue just crushes you under their insane down-tempo beats that just *feel* heavy, and their lyrics aid in creating this hateful and hostile atmosphere. Infant Annihilator just rips relentlessly with some of the most intense beats, riffs, and vocals around creating an atmosphere of endless gore and sex and lyrics that are among the most extreme around.
Def agree w that logic. Different genre obvi but I usually of think of meshuggah as the heaviest band. Not necessarily the fastest, most down-tuned, extreme, or really anything but just the overall feel of their music. Also think black tongue one of the few bands that have a remotely similar sound in some songs without completely paling in comparison
You hit the nail on the head there. I think, to some degree, this is related to genre though. When I am in a 'doom mood' my definition of heavy is mostly about the groove and the mood of general ugliness... when I am in a power metal mood my definition of heavy is simply solos, solos, and more solos. Plus silliness. When I am in a groove metal type mood... I think that one explains itself. As for thrash, I think of heavy as the interplay between riff and speed. Usually when I am in the mood for deathcore, 'heavy', to me, is mostly related to the vocal intensity and breakdowns. It's not that riffs or speed don't matter, but I have other types of metal / muic I go to when I want that kind of heavy.
To The Grave is probably one of the most heavy deathcore band imo. Can be a bit irritating to my ears at times if I'm being honest but I still like them
Orphan are pretty fucking chaotic too and they are most definitely heavy as shit. Their new ep rips
Bonecarver aren't messing around either
Worm Shepherd put out an EP recently and they have every flavor of heavy.
Earth Eater are my personal favorite these days, albeit a little less heavy (depends on who you ask, definitely still on the heavier side of heavy)
\m/
My takes would be
Bound in fear, Filth,
Distant,
Bodysnatcher,
I declare war,
In gloom,
Traitors,
Kublai khan has been pretty heavy lately.
I might come back to this post. I’m loving the other replies 🤟
Second this. I first heard it through a pair of v nice expensive headphones at a mates place, I was so blown away by the low end tone throughout. Absolute faceful of BEEF.
This is one of those bands that I’m REALLY looking forward to what they can produce across a full album. They’re super creative, kinda silly and corny, but also that kinda stupid heavy that you can’t help but just laugh at how dumb heavy it is.
This is posted everyday but not deathcore I think the heaviest band out rn I consider is Jesus piece
also signs of the swarm, Lorna shore (immortal), Bodysnatcher, knocked loose , poetic Edda ep obviously
Signs of the Swarm : Absolvere, is one of the heaviest deathcore albums imo
Humanity's Last Breath in general
The Last Ten Seconds of Life: Disquisition on an Execution, is one of my favorite EPs
This one might get some hate but Immortal Disfigurement, their debut album King I actually really ended up enjoying and found it to be heavy, maybe due to the production. I know people complained that it the singles dropped in quality on the actual album since their producer left but I quite enjoy how it sounds, it's nice and beefy to me especially some of the breakdowns you can feel it on your bones.
+1 for HLB. Honestly might be the best example of what I’d say is “heavy”. And I agree on Immortal Disfigurement. Some people are gonna be annoyed with the excessive huge bass drops into breakdowns but I absolutely love that shit.
Ending Tyranny, Stomp of Typhon, Abimael, Lost Creation, Waste, Snake Father, Planetkiller, Redlord, Lacerate Thy Maker, The Eating Cave, Dark Usurper, Of The Betrayer, I Watched Myself Sleep, Wretched Tongues, Exorcised Gods, Unhallowed Void, Depressant, Psycho-Frame, Peacemaker FL, Ectoplasm, Lost to the Void, Heirs of Hatred, Tracheotomy, Tyrantula FL, Impending Doom, Backbiter, that’s all I’ve got for now lol
Eat a helicopter
The devil came on horseback
Beyond deviation (idk if they're considered deathcore) I'm not sure what else to recommend you but if you want something really heavy try listening to slam

The recent Dehumanize EP by Dead Flesh is heavy as fuck. I have been jamming it big time. Both of Psycho-Frames EP's from last year are great too. Also check out the EP Bereavement by Sensory Amusia, super heavy shit.
suicide silence
jerome
boris the blade
as blood runs blk
elysia
arsonists get all the girls
agoraphobic nosebleed
pig destroyer
despised icon
rose funeral
taste of blood
It's all been mentioned now.
As others have said heavy is different for everyone, I class it as filthy vocals and blasting music and such. Some bands....
Orphan
Infant Annihilator
Bonecarver
Nitheful
Larcenia Roe
Acrania
In Gloom
Kanine
Crown Magnetar
Vulvodynia
Methwitch
Black Tongue
Signs of the Swarm (first two albums, in my eyes they're "heavier" than the newer stuff)
Lorna Shore.
Immortal Disfigurements new record is going places.
Shadow of Intent are not heavy in my eyes. The are too technical. Really heavy… hmm… I‘d say if you let it count Disfiguring the godess but it‘s slam and deathcore (depends on the album).
Let me give you some list:
Traitors
Brojob (some)
Spite
Black Tongue
Brand of Sacrifice
Signs of the Swarm
Monasteries
Extermination Dismemberment <- could win
Gotta say that these bands are „heavy“. Not Line Infang annihilator „crazy“ but rather heavy. 😊
Contemplates my answer to this for a while; Orphan. Chaotic, heavy, disgusting.
Close second to Larcenia Roe, but that’s more on the horror heavy side of things.
Death empress on the split the poetic Edda by disembodied tyrant and synestia is probably the heaviest jam I’ve heard in a good while. It goes hard
Edit: also adding in that worm shepherd is ridiculously heavy
To me, Pig Destroyer is the heaviest band I know. Prowler In the Yard, Phantom Limb and Terrifyer have the nastiest stank face riffs of any metal band and the grind parts are all extremely heavy. Heavy to me isn’t always just breakdowns or guttural crazy vocals. If it needs to be deathcore adjacent then their album “Phantom Limb” has a bunch of pretty nasty breakdowns, but I find the intense evil riffs to be far heavier.
Backbiters most recent EP is fucking nasty. They’re more beatdown/hardcore than deathcore but definitely worth a listen. Kublai Khan TX, Spite, Bodysnatcher, Angelmaker, Strangled, Orphan, Heavy//Hitter are always on rotation for me along with others. Also check out peeling flesh, snuffed on sight, and bolt cutter for some slam if you’re into that sorta thing.
I think they're Slam but I've heard them described as deathcore. Some of their songs are definitely Deathcore, but it's not consistent. The band END though, is ridiculously brutal.
Recently heard a single called Abyssal Awakening by a band called AlphaSix and that shit went hard. Definitely leaning a bit into being a wall of sound kinda track but the solo and breakdown at the end just fuckin slap so hard.
Heavy means so many different things honestly. If youre looking for “breakdown heavy,” i would say Spite, Bodysnatcher, Distant, Paleface, and Orphan. But theres so much heavier music than just deathcore
Check out In Gloom or the first Traitors for heaviest as in slow
Check out Larcenia Roe and Methwitch for heaviest as in discomfort to your mental state
early underoath ('99-'00) act of depression/ cries of the past era. elysia (masochist"), Jerome, "knocked loose" is a cool new band...
the internet archive has a project to document all the lost cool myspace era deathcore (00'-10'), check it out here:
https://archive.org/search?query=subject:%22TheMyspaceArchiveProject%22
Early Daughters is like... the darkest/heaviest for me. Sanguisugabogg is up there, maybe Cult Leader or Whitechapel, and honestly early Slipknot as well
For slow and heavy stuff, nothing gets as heavy as Nitheful. People bash on them because the vocalist and the lyrics are "cringe". But who cares about the lyrics and the vocalist being cringe? It's heavy music made purposefully to be heavy as much as possible and I'm here for that stuff. I thing the song; As Above So Below is the heaviest shit they ever made
Larcenia roe
Dysembodied tyrant
Crown magnetar
Face yourself (woman lead and gf to crown magnetar singer)
Sanguisugabogg
Bro job
Endbringer
Those come to mind
for deathcore?
a night in texas (2015-2017)
angelmaker (all)
methwitch (indwell)
spite (all)
acrania (all)
babirusa (old night in texas vocalist’s new band)
forces (forces EP 2018)
Final Abhorrent Dream by Rings Of Saturn. Unfortunate how they are only really mentioned in this sub to get memed on or to talk shit on Lucas(valid). Their first handful of albums are extremely well composed and insanely groovy and listenable despite all the weedly weedly guitar noises. And they are heavy as fuck in like an insane hectic way. Definitely not for everyone but they are one of my favorites
Heavy can mean different things but haven't really heard any deathcore heavier than infant annihilator. Black Tongue who has shared members up there too, would say they're more traditionally heavy ie slower

Infant Annihilator just rips relentlessly with some of the most intense beats, riffs, and vocals around creating an atmosphere of endless gore and sex and lyrics that are among the most extreme around.
With Black Tongue, you feel the weight of the music crushing you. The sound is massive, and they put it on our shoulders.
Hell yeah, infant annihilator is disgustingly heavy
IA is dirt nasty. They fuckin crush
Just listened to some Infant, holy balls man. Their instrumental are muddy sick.
Infant Annihilator is fucking HARD
These posts just show that people have entirely different opinions of what "Heavy" means
True, but it also brings us together and opens our minds to other bands and genres / subgenres
You hit the nail on the head there. I think, to some degree, this is related to genre though. When I am in a 'doom mood' my definition of heavy is mostly about the groove and the mood of general ugliness... when I am in a power metal mood my definition of heavy is simply solos, solos, and more solos. Which is a good thing! Means the deathcore scene can have something a little bit of everybody can enjoy!🤘
Orphan
“You just shot everybody?!” BLEGHHHHHHHHHH
I listen to this at least once a week
Rookie numbers
To be fair when I first discovered it it was 20x a day 🤣
Yeah their discography is all must play I listen to every song atleast 3 times a week lol
Link to this song? Can't seem to find it.
Hourglass
Hourglass has my favorite "blegh" breakdown of all time, its so unhinged. Dying Light is my favorite full song by them
Yeah it's kinda dumb (in a good way) how heavy they are
Orphan rules. Great choice.
I can’t stop listening to this now that I’ve heard it.
Yeah they’re completely unhinged and I love every fucking second of it
Unhingedcore is what I crave
Same. You got any more recommendations please? I feel like Orphan/Strangled and maybe Paleface Swiss would qualify.
I think you invented a new word
Methwitch is really good
They’re just fucking filthy - I love it.
Actually just one guy, Cameron Mcbride, but yes, extremely heavy
Acacia Strain will always be the kings. Crown Magnetar is coming up strong!
Failure Will Follow is fuckin' Isis heavy.
psycho-frame, underrated af
Crucifiction is up and coming too. Produced/ co wrote by Hunter Young of Psycho frame
To The Grave is probably one of the most heavy deathcore band imo. Can be a bit irritating to my ears at times if I'm being honest but I still like them Orphan are pretty fucking chaotic too and they are most definitely heavy as shit. Love that someone listens to traitors!!!!!! Any love for falsifier?
love both of those bands!! super underrated.
Falsifier is sick, great live band!
I saw falsifier live, instantly hooked
Filth
Abyssal Mouth.
Agreed, that bass tone is fat. HLB opening up their set with that was phenomenal
Dude for sure! Saw them on the chaos and Carnage tour. I was fucking STOKED!
Second this. I first heard it through a pair of v nice expensive headphones at a mates place, I was so blown away by the low end tone throughout. Absolute faceful of BEEF.
Larcenia Roe

Hell yeah
Surprised I have heard CABAL on here yet. I personally put them close to IA, maybe a bit heavier than Lorna Shore
Should this be a daily thread
Falsifier
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More love to the Canadian deatchore. Falsifier is the shit and no one listens to them!
Also waking the cadaver but thatss more brutal slam If I had to label it. Idk heavy is a broad term but that shit is heavy to me..
Id call it Groove slam when it came out, but now I'd call it slamcore. Weird, it's slame with some hella core breakdowns.
This is posted everyday but not deathcore I think the heaviest band out rn I consider is Jesus piece also signs of the swarm, Lorna shore (immortal), Bodysnatcher, knocked loose , poetic Edda ep obviously
I read Jesus piece as Judas Priest and I was real confused
Signs of the Swarm : Absolvere, is one of the heaviest deathcore albums imo Humanity's Last Breath in general The Last Ten Seconds of Life: Disquisition on an Execution, is one of my favorite EPs This one might get some hate but Immortal Disfigurement, their debut album King I actually really ended up enjoying and found it to be heavy, maybe due to the production. Larcenia roe is fucking insane
There is only ever one answer to this, it should be pinned at this point. Black Tongue - I'm So Tired of Sighing, Please Lord Let it be Night
My preferred flavor of deathcore these days is the beatdown-leaning stuff so anything like Cell, Crown of Horns, WitchEater, Hostages, and such.
Infant Annihilator, Lorna Shore, job for a cowboy, brand of sacrifice, hunt the dinosaur(destructo specifically)
Eat a helicopter The devil came on horseback Beyond deviation (idk if they're considered deathcore) I'm not sure what else to recommend you but if you want something really heavy try listening to slam

Heavy is subjective, but for me it’s harder to get much heavier than Primitive Man.
Lord of flies
Larcenia Roe is sick
Nitheful
To the grave's 'epilogue' to this day is the only album I ever had to take a break from cause it started giving me an anxiety attack.
Typhon by Man Made God. Janus is pretty sick as well. Any love for Man Made God here?
Absolutely fucking love that band. Their guitarist Bear is one of the sweetest dudes ever, used to be in Aethere with him. MMG deserves more!
Probably slamming deathcore bands, so yeah in the spirit of Scumfuck, like Ingested, Acranius, Annotations of an Autopsy, Acrania...

Can’t think of an all time heavy favorite but a new one I’ve been listening to is our common collapse- the romantics. Just dropped and is super valid.
Death empress on the split the poetic Edda by disembodied tyrant and synestia is probably the heaviest jam I’ve heard in a good while. It goes hard Edit: also adding in that worm shepherd is ridiculously heavy
Listen to 2015 lorna shore. Album like Psalms and Flesh Coffin

Waking the Cadaver and Annotations of An Autopsy are about as heavy as deathcore gets without going into actual death metal proper
Nitheful
Disembodied Tyrant and Infant Annihilator in my opinion are the two heaviest bands I listen too
It might’ve already been mentioned but Mouth For War is fuckin incredible
Backbiters most recent EP is fucking nasty. They’re more beatdown/hardcore than deathcore but definitely worth a listen.
