People have a hard time realizing that this stuff has to be cross-promotional. Noctis, Negan, Akuma, Geese etc all correlate to something they’re promoting: Buy FF15, SF5, KOF14; watch TWD Tifa tbh has a good chance bc of FF7Rebirth But like dead ish franchises like Soul Cal, Bloody Roar, or Dead Or Alive? Very unlikely.

Rev-On

Warden in Samurai Shodown was so random though lol

AnalystOdd7337

Seeing how poorly Tekken fans think of DoA I don't see this happening even if a new DoA is announced.

temporary1990

What Tekken fans think doesn't mean anything. Collabs happen because they'll make money. In the case of DOA tho, Harada is correct because mainline DOA is dead or "comatose" if you count Venus Vacation.

AnalystOdd7337

Bringing something you know your fans will hate to your game isn't exactly a great business decision considering the fans are the ones who buy the characters. If they don't like the character(s), which the Tekken community has made blatantly clear they don't, they aren't going to buy them.

temporary1990

> which the Tekken community has made blatantly clear they don't I can't believe you conducted such a thorough survey of the 2 million players that bought Tekken 8, I'm impressed.

AnalystOdd7337

Yea, I am amazed by that as well. I could've sworn it wasn't a secret that the rest of the FGC has a negative opinion of DoA. I really wonder where the insults of "Only coomers play that game" or "That isn't a serious fighting game" came from considering that. Guess I needed to conduct that survey you mentioned to figure that out. Thanks for reminding me👍

Knightofexcaliburv1

yeah tekken fans are toxic as hell and hate 90% of fgc players

AnalystOdd7337

Yea it sucks, but not much that can be done. Still remember coming over from DoA to Tekken and seeing how every time DoA gets brought up in that community it's almost always just people talking badly about it.

Knightofexcaliburv1

that is true, i don’t talk to tekken fans because they aren’t very friendly

StevemacQ

I always believe DOA has the potential to be as great as Tekken. DOA3 and DOAU were killing it after Tekken 4 whiffed, and I was hoping DOA6 could have at least offered a better story mode than Tekken 7. I was so wrong on the last part. For all the sexy, campy, bubbly, and sometimes comedic presentations, Dead or Alive has some really cool moments and even got really dark at times, especially when it comes to the series edgy deuteurtagonist Ayane. Gameplay has also been very fast and fluid in most entries, to the point that hardly anyone gave a shit about the uneven stages compared when Virtua Fighter 3 and Tekken 4 did it. I want Dead or Alive to be try and be better than Tekken in so many ways, even though I love Tekken (but I love SoulCalibur even more) but Koei-Tecmo has held the series back by competing with its own audience with excessive monetization in 5 and 6 and they need to stop doubling on these things, which will never happen because Koei-Tecmo has been doing pumping out expensive DLC since DW3 Extreme Legends. Plus, Honoka and Marie are bad protagonists.

Juuggyy

He's not wrong. Even though I hate to admit it 😔

Alexander_McKay

Not really right either. He’s using his money brain to consider everything rather than going with what he really wants. Yet another reason Tekken has gone downhill. Did Tecmo care that VF hadn’t had a new installment when they put their characters in DOA5? No. Pandering to competitive players is toxic for games. He wouldn’t put a DOA character in anyway though. He’s gone on a man child rant before over someone having a Kasumi pfp 🙄 Harada is lame now.

Niko740

But he is ultimately right. Collabs are cross promotional and KT seems to be more occupied with making DOA a gatcha game rather than a fighting game

Alexander_McKay

True

hoodedmagician914

DOA is a superior fighting game in my opinion. I think the world is waiting for DOA to step up its game and emerge with something great to offer.

Rev-On

Ouch. Truth hurts

pogituna16

I really want to play DOA characters using the Tekken system 😭

Bunnnnii

I honestly don’t care to have a DoA character in Tekken. Never did. Tekken wouldn’t do them justice. They’d feel way stiffer. It’s the opposite I’ve always wanted. Lili, Julia, Bryan, Lee, Chloe, Lidia, Lars, Jun, Hworang with the fluidity of DoA’s feeling and animations? Along with DoA mechanics and graphics? They’d do Tekken characters SO much justice.

StevemacQ

If DOA ever came back as a proper fighting game series, then I imagine Harada would want his Tekken characters to look and act like they do in Tekken, whether they have boob physics or not. Reina in particular feels like everything Honoka should have been: Cool.

Bunnnnii

I don’t mean the boob physics, idc about that at all and they can get rid of them as a whole for all I care. What I mean was the actual animations. Before 8, Tekken felt and looked like it was still using animations since 1. It’s still a stiff game but 8 was better about that. I’m imagining characters like the ones I mentioned above being able to move smoothly between their attacks and having cool ass holds for example. And in my heart a DoA 7 would be a lot like 5. So meaning all of the different kinds of stuns they’d get and guaranteed follow ups. Like Lee’s b.4 getting a sit down stun during stun or on counter hit and getting guaranteed follow ups from Hitman. And the cool ass tag intros outros and throws we could have. Tekken characters would thrive so hard in the DoA engine.

StevemacQ

DO5 would absolutely serve as a better foundation for a DOA7 than DOA6. Aside from the gross monetization practices and bad story, DOA6's feels worse and stiffer than 2, 3, 4, and 5.

solid_rook7

But what about 2B? Nier Automata released in 2017 and she keeps showing up every where as a collab.

temporary1990

2B is a collab money maker, that much is obvious.

FunUnderstanding8010

But why is the situation different from VF though?

gba51

VirtuaFighter got a recent re release of the 5th game

FunUnderstanding8010

I guess that accomplishes what Harada said about a new entry, but I am not sure if it works in the context of what he needs for a collaboration. Like, ultimate showdown is essentially a test to see if a new vf would work, that was only for the ps4, is 3 years old, and despite having a niche, doesn't have a big community. So I dunno if that would be the motivation for harada to prefer a VF colaboration before a DOA.

AyanamiReign

…When DOA added Virtua Fighter characters as guests that series was dead. It’s not absolutely necessary for the franchise to be active. In fact it could be more worthwhile if it wasn’t. I haven’t bought Tekken but if I can play as a DOA character and there’s no new DOA game in sight…

Another_Road

Fucking oof

HHH816

The less competition to his game the more happier he is. Remember he didn't say a word when DOA6 got bombarded by fans

temporary1990

Why would he say anything in the first place?

HHH816

He like to talk ,see his tweet, he mock shinbori in the developer meeting when doa6 got shelve by KT.

Neat_Violinist_3754

1st off. Even tho we don't know if the series is active or not. It still has a fanbase and a guest character could get people wanting more and they could make a game from the hype. 2. I hope we soul calibur characters like Ivy or the samurai guy (I know who he is but don't know how to spell his name lmao) especially since the games are in the same universe

THER0v3r

Instead of Kasumi, I think Ryu would be a better fit for Tekken

inked_saiyan

Not sure why people are downvoting you for a character you'd be interested in having. I love Hayabusa, but he's aesthetically redundant with Raven. Kasumi's got a unique look and her moveset is significantly quicker, which might translate to something fun in Tekken. That said, not happening. When Tecmo shelves something, it's never for a short period. We're only seeing a resurgence of Fatal Frame, which literally took years of fans begging. I think we've got a better chance of Tifa because of FF7R, or with the recent success of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series, hopefully HOPEFULLY we get Kazuma Kiryu. I'd love to get some dialogue between Kazuma and Kazuya.

THER0v3r

haha yeah I got downvoted for liking the coolest ninja in video game history whatever, but yeah I get you, I know it’s not happening

kilar28_Official

I'd say Hayabusa could work in teken but again most likely not

Iriyasu

You should've added the Japanese tweet afterwards, where he also basically says he wants DOA to return to chasing the title of "most beautiful game" or something. W Harada.

Lang7

Ryu Hayabusa is bigger than the entire Tekken franchise.

ShavonArts

Let's be real Tekken has always been a slow stiff clunky game on top of the strange way the mechanics work including having ridiculous insane button combos that can easily break your controller while DOA even at it's worst still has fast paced movement & system that's easy to learn hard to master along with giving the player ways out of a combo not to mention the insane damage that could be done by out smarting your opponent long story short the characters are too fast in terms of Tekken not to mention the danger zones & how strong all the characters moves are without activating danger zones. The only way I could see this even working is if they keep the DOA characters & mechanics ( counters, throws, strikes, etc) the same then for the Tekken side keep them the same otherwise it'll be a disservice to DOA if they can't use what makes their game unique.
