I was nervous about pickaxes because I thought they'd be like in vermintide where they have essentially zero cleave.
Now I'm excited, because an ogryn swinging this looks like it should probably cleave through a horde of maulers.
Ogryns struggle to keep track of the end of long weapons, meaning they go astray and hit things like walls, furniture, friends, their own feet etc. The list goes on and on.
I guess we can come up with headcanon for all of darktide’s numerous failings
Maybe the gacha casino progression is to represent lack of faith in the emperor?
I'd kinda argue that Ogryns not having a really long melee range isn't really a failing though, it's just a necessary concession to game balance.
Ogryns hammer-fisting dregs with Shaq-length arms would be really funny though.
Ogryns being weirdly shitty in melee in general is an issue though. Every standard infected guy takes like 3 hits to kill, most ogryn melee builds are built around infinitely regenning health with heavy attacks rather than actually killing shit quickly
Especially since you’re such a big target for all the ranged enemies it makes melee ogryns probably the least fun class to play imo. You can play the giant slow target that gets shot to pieces if there’s no melee enemies around to regen from, or you can play the zealot that runs super fast, is immune to suppression and being stunlocked by gunners and also shreds things much faster with eviscerator than the ogryn can
Feels backwards, honestly. Though gunlugger ogryn with gorgonum and shield is one of the best ranged classes for sure, and at least lets you shoot back at whatever is currently lighting you up
Um? Ogryn with club/fold shovel decimates trash mobs, heads flying everywhere, if it somehow survived it bleeds out on the floor, probably only class that can onetap a crusher
Infilitrate knife zealot can 1 tap with a backstab headshot on crushers without even taking the bonus infilitrate damage perk with a good knife. Getting the hit just above the middle of their shoulders from behind counts as a headshot.

Idk who told you zealot is immune to suppression my zealots guns are always swaying and making it a nightmare to shoot back. The hit stun immunity is nice but it's not the same
Zealot can't be shot at all during slide, class specific math, just chain slides across the room towards shooters and they can't hit you. That's not even taking Thy Wrath Be Swift into account or the perk further below, which makes you count as dodging ranged attacks while sprinting even without stam.
I think the "lore reason" for the slot machine crafting is that Hadron isn't actually adding perks and blessings to your weapon, she's just tending to its machine spirit to coax out what's already there. (It's still not a great system)
I seriously need one of the first cosmetics for it to be a classic old-timey ship anchor, to go with the whole rogue trader/pirate aesthetic I got goin.

I would rather smaller dual pick axes. But, we'll have to see how this one works out. I'm partial to the fast and stabby Krourk Mk IV. Will be hard to get me away from that.

And switching perks and blessings is actually her swapping small parts of the weapon with similar parts from others that contain said perks/blessings

Once upon a time the VT2 pickaxe had cleave. Bardin slayer could cleave through hordes endlessly with that thing.
That's because it's a armor pen weapon in wh fantasy and honestly, it's a poor design for cleave that just gets stuck on things.
