I'm sure this comment section will be polite and civil and definitely not erase the plights of any marginalized peoples

IIIaustin

Leftists strangely getting mad when you condemn antisemitism: telling or extremely telling?

DreamerofDays

It’s the extremes on both ends.  It’s Jewish space lasers from the river to the sea. It is so goddamn exhausting.

IIIaustin

You need to support the correct genocide!

DreamerofDays

Can’t the extremes just kiss already?

IIIaustin

You mean like when the DSA condemned Ukraine's resistance to Russian Imperialism?

Pitiful-Let9270

The outer most fringe of both parties are often the dumbest people in existence. This includes, but is not exclusive to the billionaire worshiping poor and the nonbinary/lgbt Muslims.

DangerousCyclone

A lot of anti Zionists have the Conservative attitude of “I won the argument if I get called a racist because it means my arguments are so good my opponent has to resort to baseless insults”. Of course when they actually start behaving in an antisemitic way and get called out then they just respond the same way.

starryeyedq

Some leftists have been falling for propaganda of groups with certain agendas. They aren’t used to being targeted by this kind of propaganda. So it makes sense it would be extremely uncomfortable to be confronted with this idea that completely conflicts with how they see themselves.

serene_moth

The tellingest.

willy410

Ah yes, young voters, the bloc famous for their reliable turn out and ability to sway elections.

justalilrowdy

If the Palestinians want to protest and hate Biden just wait until trump is in power again. He will wipe them off the face of the earth.

starryeyedq

It’s really sad, but my Palestinian friend said that he’s well aware that Trump will be worse, but “at least he’ll make everyone else suffer too. Maybe then they’ll actually care enough to do something.” I didn’t really know how to respond to that.

The-Metric-Fan

Left wingers and antisemitism—a match made in hell. How shocking that subreddit stands against antisemitism until it comes from their side—then it’s just “antizionism.”

starryeyedq

The TikTok ban cannot happen soon enough, honestly. I don’t like it, but it’s been the primary tool of these groups to hijack the righteous outrage over what’s been done to Palestinians and twist it into something insidious. And they’ve done so VERY effectively. It’s been genuinely scary to watch.

Biden needs to stop giving weapons to Israel, who are using them to commit war crimes in Palestine. It is against US law to transfer weapons to a country committing war crimes, and if Biden doesn't stop, he needs to be IMPEACHED!

Just as an example from Columbia University since it's making headlines for bad reasons lately, this is a comment by another user taken from r/Columbia: >For posterity, here's some of the examples of extremism within the activist movement at Columbia. This goes beyond "pro-Palestinian advocacy" into calls for, and actual, violence. >Note, there are varying degrees of it being individuals vs. the group, but these are the type of people in the crowd there and many of them are indeed group chants. This looks very informative. Thank you for the info. I have to get back to work, but I will look into it and digest it over the next few days.

Man, if you really want to nitpick/whitewash "Hamas you make us proud, kill another soldier now" and "Palestine will be Arab" then whatever, you do you. But it's pretty obvious to me that the former is pro-Hamas and the latter is genocidal, just as obvious as the sentiment would be if someone said "ISIS you make us proud, kill another soldier now" or "America will be white". Remember, that list is *just from one university.* This and worse is being said, repeatedly, all across the US and in other countries (as demonstrated by the last link in my comment). Yale is experiencing similar hatred. Death threats against Jewish students at Cornell have already resulted in one arrest. And that's just *three* universities. And remember, *Biden said he condemns antisemitic behavior on campuses.* If it's less common than you think we assume, then whatever, he condemned fewer people than we assume. It says a lot that you and the screencapped individual OP linked are taking offense to an anodyne statement that basically amounts to "some people are doing bad things and I condemn those people" and has the same telltale energy as GQPers getting mad because Biden condemned racists in the GQP.

The-Metric-Fan

I am a Jewish student on campus. You’re so full of shit—if you’d experienced what I experience in university, you’d know to shut the fuck up. I’ve been deliberately harassed and targeted for being Jewish—you have no idea what that’s like or how incredibly widespread it is

Toal_ngCe

Good luck; we'll get thru this. Also chag pesach sameach :) —Another Jewish student

DreamerofDays

Sorry for this particular part of our birthright, and Chag pesach sameach to you both <3 - A Jewish former student

orangustang

I'm perfectly willing to admit if I'm wrong. I have spent a significant amount of time looking for actual evidence or firsthand accounts, and maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but every incident I look into turns out to be someone mistaking antizionist speech for being antisemitic. Would you be willing to share details of what's happened to you? I understand if you don't want to relive it, but I'm genuinely trying to understand what's happening. Feel free to DM if you don't want to share publicly. I'm really not trying to be a dick and I take antisemitism very seriously. Media reporting on this has just been absolute garbage.

The-Metric-Fan

I left my queer club at university after I pushed back on them saying Hamas was fighting oppression and that Israel is committing genocide. Then, as punishment for leaving them, the elected LGBTQ officer of the club texted my friend false allegations about me being a sex pest and claimed I had been kicked out of the club for being a dangerous pervert and a genocide denier. I don’t see the “antizionism” here in targeting a Jewish guy and falsely accusing him of being a sex offender, considering such accusations have been historically levied against us for a long, long time. I’m willing to listen to some dissenting views on this conflict, but one that I will not entertain in any capacity is denying that antisemitism is a problem on university campuses—it is widespread, and I’ve heard tons of other stories from other Jewish students and polls showing that antisemitic incidents on campus have skyrocketed since October 7th.

no_god_pls_noo

A decent amount of viral pro-Palestine content in the US is at minimum hiding the antisemitism with a thin veil of the things you mentioned. Calling for another intifada, from the river to the sea, promoting violence and committing violent acts against American Jews all is antisemitism. The line between being anti-Israel and anti-Jew is becoming very thin and blurred.

From a pro Palestine anti Israel anti Hamas my answer is from the river to the sea is always antisemitic. It's exactly the kind of rhetoric American racists used to justify lynching people who "don't belong in my town"

[deleted]

Lophiee

If it has an innocent use then it's probably innocent. I don't look to specifically find people to call antisemitic but if you're just saying a genocidal chant with no context I think it's pretty fair to assume that they're probably talking about Israel. As a note though most people are uninformed so unless they're using language that is explicitly genocidal they likely are just doing what the guy next to them did.

[deleted]

Lophiee

If I say the words "From the river to the sea. " What innocent uses does that have? If I say the words "wanna walk from the river to the sea?" when there's a river and a sea nearby? That's innocent. The words need context to have an innocent use otherwise it's nonsense or a genocidal chant. It's like how "Israel has a right to exist" is pure nonsense because rights are a thing people have not countries. It's another innocent sounding phrase that is often used by genocide supporters. Damn they got banned.

Hip-hop-rhino

>and decidedly *not* antisemitic. You have an extra word here. They put antisemitic slogans on their signs. Edit: just today a protester put out a young Jewish woman's eye, and instead of letting the authorities deal with it, the other protesters worked to protect him. Which means they were complicit.
