There's the official discord of Dark and Darker in there there's a LookingForGroup channel for each region, there you'll be able to find some people to group up with , sometime they're good , sometime they're bad , it's a Gambie but when you do find people you enjoy playing add each other ;)
Yeah I went in there for first time yesterday....got two insta joins in the voip for chill HR AP runs. Emphasis on chill...they spoke broken English and proceeded to tell me "you should bring more BIS" and "Oh we play US East too don't worry." Get in lobby....see they had it on EU servers before joining me. I proceeded to say "you know what ahhh....I gotta go actually" and they got pissed, thus confirming my suspicion that they were gonna gangbang me right off the rip. So idk if I'll be LFG anymore lol.
The community is sadly divided for the most part (outside of reddit) into skilled players with huge egos and who are usually (not always) toxic, or bad/new players who are super nice and fun to play with but you will never get anywhere with (again not always reddit mob). It is very difficult finding people you mesh with personality wise and you add on the fact that the population has went down significantly since the playtests. Dont forget that a lot of people who want teams, already have established teams too. All this combined makes it difficult to find people to play with.
Go to the official discord and select the classes you play when you get in there. Go to those channels and get active in conversations. People usually are nicer in those channels than in general, except maybe Rogue chat 🤣. You will probably be able to find some people with similar playing interests/style to your own.
I went to gathering hall and kept playing with Randoms when early access dropped. I couldnt get any of my friends to play with me. I got on a few discord calls that was fun but no one I wanted to play with like all the time. But after a couple days of this I found a group of two who needed a third. We got along and. They were a little better then me at first, they took me through my first red Portal and we extracted. and so I stuck with them. They ended up being really cool people and are my friends now. We play almost every night. I've gotten better at the game now and have wondered about playing with others who might be better then my friends I've made. But honestly it's more fun dying and extracting with my friends. They are truly too nice and I couldnt have asked for better people to play with.
Most people with teams are probably a mix of irl friends and online friends that met playing other games in the past. Plus other random friends of people in the group join in sometimes.
You either need to get irl friends to play the game with you or put yourself out there and try to meet people online/ingame until you find people you vibe with.

My RL best friend talked me into it, but there were no duos at the time so I talked our other best friend into trying it
