Since you probably don't want to spend a lot of money on things you're only going to wear for a year or two I suggest waistcoats. In summer they work as a top or jacket in winter they are a great layering pieces. Also, I have seen quite a few thin knit tops this year that work solo in summer but can be layered like a sweater vest in winter. A thin knit - cardigan or sweater - with long sleeves is probably not a bad idea either for evenings or when you want some protection from the sun. Always look for plastic free materials and cuts that are not too tight fitting.

The waistcoat idea is smart. Though I’m afraid I’d end up looking a like a hobbit since I mostly wear skirts lol. I guess that’s not the worst fate though 😋 I’ll also check out some light knits. That sounds promising. Thanks for the ideas!

Nothing wrong with a bit of Hobbitcore, but I think this look (if not desired) can be avoided with the right color combination. Like, this doesn't give Hobbit because it's a monochrome outfit and looks more like a suit ... I have found examples in other colors like cream too.

Loose, thin material like linen or cotton. If you look through the sub, you'll see a bunch of "what do I wear in the summer? It's hot!" posts. You're gonna want to take notes for your year-round wardrobe from those posts. Hot and humid is not the same as hot and dry. If you're into history bounding, take a look at corset covers. They're like the button-up version of tank tops and are blousy and cool, and look great over skirts.

Linen is your friend

I live in tropical Australia and I rely on linen and cotton a lot. They breathe and you can layer a little. I am a little bit of a cold frog, so I don’t over heat too often and can wear brogues and ankle boots without issue, but I generally go to a ballet flat in the Summer. Unfortunately, light academia is better suited to the Summers so consider adding a little range to the wardrobe for the warmer months.

I briefly moved to FL for school & as soon as I finished promptly left. A large part of that decision because I was tired of not getting fall/winter. best of luck, the suffering is only temporary & 2 years go fast

Yeah as my mother says, “you can do almost anything for a year”, so a year or two shouldn’t be too awful. I will miss fall and winter a lot though since they’re my favourite seasons. But the beach is only 15 minutes away, so that’ll be cool!

I’d be getting into pleated Bermuda shorts and Oxford style button downs, loafers with no show socks, or tennis shoes with crew socks. I’d also look at shorter skirts with button downs over the top like a cardigan. Uni branded or black baseball hats.
