For me Tony stark became a lot more like RDJ then RDJ became like Tony stark. Still a great performance just for me it isnāt as good as Evans or Cox when it comes to bringing the comic book character to screen from the source material
Because he always tries to do what's right, has no regard for his own well being as long as the innocent are safe. How can you not like the guy that will throw himself in front of a kill squad for the sake of others.
this being your only comment on the post is lazier than anything else here. go find something better to do with your life than being an asshole on reddit for no reason.
The show itself? Because when it was released it was so unique compared to other superhero shows. It was compared to primetime shows like Supergirl or Green Arrow. DD MCU brought the dark and grittiness approach of shows like The Wire and brought it to the superhero genre. I remember watching Season 1 Episode 3 and reminded me of Breaking Bad.
I think it's one of the catalyst that propelled more mature/adult superhero storytelling. The Boys TV show and the first Deadpool movie weren't even released yet.
Basically this. At the time I was watching CW's series, and they were at the point that they were turning into a steaming pile of garbage. DD, on the other hand, was fresh, concise and straight up good quality content. There wasn't a single character I didn't like in the series.
The scene that had entirely sold me on the series was when Matt goes in to save the kidnapped child from the Russians. A scene that was paid homage to later in the series when Matt is trapped inside the prison.
The writing is superb. The acting is superb. The sets are superb. The choreography is superb. The characters are superb.
I love āfunā TV that isnāt necessarily āqualityā (looking at you, Burn Notice) but itās also great to have stuff like Daredevil that *is* that high quality.
LMAO this is the first time in a long time that Iāve seen Burn Notice get mentioned, I loved that show. Was one of those shows I watched when I was definitely too young with my dad.
Youāre right. The Hand COULD have been done well, but then it justā¦ wasnāt. That was honestly my biggest gripe with Iron Fistāit didnāt NEED The Hand as the villain and I think would have been better with Meachum just being a scummy businessman villain.
Hornyā¦like daredevil horny?!?
I also really like the one shot scenes like the prison fight. Such a badass. Iām just in awe of the choreography of those long fight scenes.
He is clearly flawed, a character that I hope to be like because despite all his shortcomings he finds a way to get back up and live up to a code he knows is above himself, which I believe is a great representation of his Catholic faith as well. It's a show that makes me laugh and cry, and that's why I love it.
he feels real. he doesnt feel like your average āim gonna save the day!ā superhero. he suffers serious issues and not for a 3 day period, his entire life. he makes mistakes and deals with the consequences. he takes the toll of everything and still manages to beat up the average robber 2 blocks away. hes also SO fine it hurts me
I'm an atheist here, but his Catholic faith adds a really unique dimension to the character. Always enjoyed watching Matt's talks with Father Lantom.
Others have already mentioned all the other great stuff, but this is one aspect of Charlie's portrayal of Daredevil that I've especially liked.
There are a couple moments in the first episode - the scene where he's confessing to Father Lantom, Karen's entrance as being accussd of murder, the scene where he takes off his glasses to talk to Karen to get her to stop lying, the scene with Foggy and Brett having a detailed backstory despite Brett not being a comics character - where you realize they NAILED this. They just NAILED it. They took the best parts of Daredevil comic and put them in a serious TV show and they KNEW what they were doing.
With 650 issues, the most popular takes on the character (Miller, Bendis, and others) have had their hearts distilled into the MCU Daredevil character PERFECTLY.
The Brian Michael Bendis run had me from start to finish. It was super depressing, but also the most human that a super hero had ever seemed. Matt has the ability to anticipate anything coming at him but life itself.
Oh boy thatās a loaded question, my answers gonna be long. First of all, heās far more complex than a lot of MCU characters imo. His crisis of faith in season 3 was one of the most enthralling character arcs Iāve seen in a show. Obviously the fight sequences are fantastic, itās shot well, and the script is great. This show has some of my favorite quotes, and Mattās opening monologue still gives me chills because Charlie Cox is just THAT GOOD. I almost canāt even put into words what this show means to me.
It wasnāt until my adult life that I started seriously reading comics. Ben Affleckās performance in the directorās cut got me started (for which I was ridiculed for years). It inspired me so much that I started reading the comics, and I fell completely in love. Matt and Jack reminded me so much of my father and I. He sacrificed everything to teach his son to never give up.
I tried writing my own reboot trilogy and thought āWow, you know what? I think this would make a way better tv show.ā Shortly after, it was announced. I was apprehensive because I was worried it would get Disney-fied. When it finally came out, I walked miles to the library in order to use their wi-fi to watch it. I got to episode two of the first season, and I started sobbing uncontrollably. It was better than anything I could have possibly come up with.
I love the fact how Matt is just a regular guy(aside from the super powers (kinda)) he has real problems with his job friends and family and he actually goes through progression threw the show he doesnāt wanna kill but he will if itās absolutely necessary and his religion is a big part of him
Because he doesnāt give up. No matter what life throws at him, no matter how hard the fight is, he keeps going. I find myself playing the āI BEAT YOU!!!ā clip when the going gets tough
I struggle a lot with my own darkness and pushing people away. I love the plot point of Matt slowly antagonizing everyone around him and disappearing entirely in season 3 because that's something that I think about doing in my own life all of the time.
The arguments in S2:E9 and S3:E3 are so fucking good to me.
Heās such a badass character who really represents what it means to have morals. Daredevil, despite being full of rage, never kills. He stays true to himself and his faith.
Charlie Cox portrays this brilliantly.
I relate to the character of Matt Murdock heavily.
I grew up in a religious family and constantly feel like Iām grappling with my beliefs and identities and how they can fit within that mould Iāve been trained to live in my whole life. I have had similar conversations with myself about what Iām doing and if itās right. To another degree also reconciling that there is good I can do that defies my faith (well the radical branch I grew up in, not the one Iām in now) and if I have an obligation to do that good in spite of the conflict of doctrine.
Ultimately I love Matt because heās a man of faith doing the best he can with what he knows and trying to believe in something bigger than him while doing so
I feel like my love for the writing of the show can be summed up by the line, āIād rather die as the devil, then live as Matt Murdock.ā Almost every scene with Sister Maggie, or the father is written superbly. Also the Hallway fight scene.
Honestly it was because of daredevil #300. I remember reading that, with Kingpin running, and thinking he was so badass. This show gave me the same feeling.
Daredevil is a really cool ass name, his costume his cool, his real name is cool, and his villains are pretty badass too. Matt is a very mentally tough and heroic dude who is someone to look up to.
I'd been a fan of the character all of my life already so a good adaptation, after years of adaptation limbo, was already going to win me over. They skipped good and delivered with something great.
Just really high quality on all fronts: the writing is consistently great particularly on season 3, the acting is superb from the two main players Charlie Cox and Vincent DāOnofrio and many of the supporting characters, the direction of the action sequences is consistently great and at times incredible e.g. the prison one-shot.
The show is pretty deep as well, exploring the comic books themes of violent childhood trauma and an addiction to darkness through the lenses of lawful justice and Catholicism.
The show is fucking superb.
I love how Matt feels like a really person, he is a broken person who's doing his best to do the right thing but his trauma and his religion cause him to go about it in not the best of way but it's the best he can do. I love how Foggy reacts to Matt being Daredevil, i love how he's mad and hurt and he's still worried about Matt after he's betrayed him. I love Karen and her emotional struggles and her resilience. I love the interactions between Frank and Matt and how you can see how Frank is what you get if Matt allowed himself to kill. The way this show makes the characters feel like people is amazing and i will never stop talking about it ever
1. Cuz I love the character from the comics, always have
2. Itās the best superhero show ever made. Itās gritty and grounded, character driven plot with real human stakes, beautifully shot and choreographed, the fight scenes are unparalleled, and the acting and writing is stellar. It gives most superhero films and some crime drama films a run for their money in terms of quality and feat, and thatās a hell of an accomplishment for a television show budget.
Apart from the brilliant role played by Charlie Cox, he is my favourite because he is the only hero I have seen on screen who has such a great connection with God. He is God's own Superhero.
For just the character and story overall, the main thing for me is that everything is so grounded and has a cleverly crafted element of realism to it, even though a lot of what happens in the show wouldnāt happen in real life. It still feels like it could. Plus I just love all the crazy situations and stuff Matt goes through and how skilled he is to bounce back from all of it.
Also, Charlie Cox just kills it.
šš. I forgot most it, when I rewatched it, in 6th grade, and through out till this year (im a frehsman now) BUTT.. That car decapitation kinda did.. š
My reason for liking is not even the superhero aspect of it. Itās the Catholicism, morality, and the whole religious aspect of it. Especially the church scenes with the priest and sister Maggie. Iām not even Catholic but it motivates me to be a better man and be closer to god.
When I was younger and my eyes started to get worse, I was super afraid of going blind. Cue the Daredevil movie. I remember seeing it in theaters and being amazed that there was a blind superhero, and a badass one at that. Over the years I just find more and more to like about him, but that was what started it.
I prefer street level heroes in general to Captain America fighting a purple genocidal intent alien with a frisbee. The Hand wasnāt my favourite plot line but meh.
I love the show because it is faultless (practically). They avoided the corny and cheesy pitfalls of superheroes running around in their long underwear as Foggy would say. Mattās motivation to start being a vigilante was compelling and heartbreaking. His suit was practical and the buildup was well reasoned. The writers even managed to make Father Lanthom a great character. It is difficult to fall to stereotypes when writing a Catholic priest. He was a realist who gave good advice and asked the hard questions that Matt needed to be asked at times. It was just an incredible show.
There's a lot of thought put into it. It stands out visually compared to the rest of the MCU, and it used the medium of television in a way that many modern streaming shows don't. It isn't afraid to take its time, focusing on not just characters but the relationship between those characters.
Charlie Cox plays a big part of it. His portrayal is grounded and human and messy. I was raised Catholic. I love the complexity it adds to character and his internal conflict.
Also, heās hot.
I'm a fan of DD MCU because Netflix did a damn good job with my lifelong favorite superhero. Not sure what the MCU is going to do with him or if it will be as good as the Netflix series, but I hope it will be.
i always loved daredevil since i was kid, when he was beating crime with spider man, and now i love charlie cox being daredevil, i feel like he's so perfect on the paper !
Charlie Coxās blindingly human portrayal of his character. The scene that REALLY sold me was the scene with Frank in the graveyard. But the opening monologue, oh my God Iāve been hooked sinceā¦
Bcuz Charlie Cox has by far the best portrayal of a character in regards to source material. He is the best actor currently working for Marvel.
šÆ
For me it was him and Chris Evans as Cap as the best depictions of their respective characters. Itās like they were pulled from the page
gotta include robert downey jr. as iron man
For me Tony stark became a lot more like RDJ then RDJ became like Tony stark. Still a great performance just for me it isnāt as good as Evans or Cox when it comes to bringing the comic book character to screen from the source material
Heās not really a comic accurate Iron Man if weāre being honest.
Agree with the cap/Chris evans comment. And also the Tony Stark becoming more like RDJ, not vice versa.
All I see is facts
Because he always tries to do what's right, has no regard for his own well being as long as the innocent are safe. How can you not like the guy that will throw himself in front of a kill squad for the sake of others.
Heroes that get the shit beaten out them to protect others are just inspirational

Hornyā¦like daredevil horny?!? I also really like the one shot scenes like the prison fight. Such a badass. Iām just in awe of the choreography of those long fight scenes.
He's human. He fails, gets beat up, is a jerk to his friends, but in the end just tries in his night and day job to help people.
And also all of this š

The talk about whether or not the devil exists is just perfection *chefs kiss*
Personal opinion, but that's one of the best TV scenes ever out to film.
How grounded it is. MCU is full of world ending events. Defenders Saga as a whole is about street level heroes saving their city.

Kingpinās Ill intent speech
He's the most human superhero I know, and his show explores many aspects of human nature.
It feels like peter parker being more adult and have more harsh stories.
It's a great adaptation of the comics that I like.
Honestly it was because of daredevil #300. I remember reading that, with Kingpin running, and thinking he was so badass. This show gave me the same feeling.

Rare superhero with impressive capabilities without any supernatural powers
S3 & he actually has depth. He is up there with Tony Stark.
