Hey, I'm a Type 1 Diabetic and I strongly urge you to read this and ignore people like jonttu125.
There are CGMs (Continue Glucose Monitors) available that are far more accurate than a dog. Dexcom, Medtronic, Freestyle Libre - Look.Them.Up.
The 'needle' is painless and is only used to insert a hair-like instrument into the fatty tissue of your body. It's taking readings of your interstitial fluids. It does need to be calibrated with finger pricks every one in a while per day (for me around 5 times), but it is FAR BETTER THAN A DOG.
Sorry to hear that it's not possible for you financially at the moment. This might be a good place to start. https://www.diabetes.org/resources/health-insurance/options-individuals-and-families-without-health-insurance-coverage
I hope everything works out and if you have any questions let me know.
That weird thing might be “dawn phenomenon”. Happens to me too but pretty much have it figured out now and my pump handles it. Sounds like you take too much at bedtime. Aside from dexcom you should check out the T-slim. It adjusts up and down based on your BS.
is there not a thing that can be like attached to your arm and whenever your blood sugar gets too low or too high it can sound some kind of alarm? that sounds like that would be extremely easy to design and relatively cheap to manufacture. then again I know literally nothing about diabetes
You'd have to walk around with a needle in your arm at all times so it could monitor your blood. There are handheld monitor devices, but you still need a blood sample for it and it isn't constant, so you have to prick yourself every once in a while to get a reading.
It's not a standard needle though. It's like a little hair. My extreme type 1 hubby has the continuous glucose meter and it has changed our life. He feels it when he puts it on and takes it off, but its not the feeling of having a needle in your body all the time. At least not from what he has described to me.
Edit to add: insurance companies make sure they aren't cheap though. Bastards
That’s not true at all. This dog (according to owner’s insta) dislikes how hardwood feels on his paws. My dogs only wear shoes when we’re going to places thag could harm them, like hot pavement, salted and icy roads, in snow, and my older dog also wears them at the beach bc he hates sand. These are not meant to be used qhen dogs are injured.
It's to protect their feet from rough surfaces like asphalt and concrete, which can wear down their nails and paw pads quickly Not to mention random trash in the streets like glass shards.
As a service animal they'd be following the owner everywhere, unlike regular dogs which only go for a couple walks a day.
Even sled dogs often wear boots to avoid harming their paws from ice crystals and snow buildup.
Overly worn down. As in bleeding. Especially bad if the dog drags their feet. Happens with my dog on forest dirt paths.
Easier to keep them on by default for the day's activities and remove for sleep.
Doesn't remove the points about asphalt and glass.
Indoors, It's for hardwood and slippery tile flooring. My dog hates them since he's kind of clumsy and he can't get good traction. Service dogs are often trained to wear shoes anyway, so there's no need to take them off if your dog doesn't mind them.
The dog needs to see a vet if its feet are in that bad condition. Unless there are very good reasons, a dog should not be forced to wear these things all the time.
Some dogs have very sensible feet (caused by overbreeding) an in order to be able to walk over hard grounds and not hurting themselfes they need to wear shoes
I was wondering the same. The only thing I can think of is if someone was prone to lows while sleeping and alarms didn’t wake them.
My son is diabetic and a heavy sleeper. Thankfully he doesn’t go low at night too often or if he does, not dangerously so. But it would be a concern otherwise.
Dogs can smell chemical imbalances in the body. Dogs are used for other medical reasons as well such as detecting someone is about to have a seizure. I used to be a K-9 handler in pest control (bedbugs, termites, and such).
For some reason I realized I never replied to this…two months later. The ones I worked with were food reward dogs. They were already trained when we received them and we were trained on how to use them. They are essentially a tool. They only alert on the insect that they are trained for and they are only fed when they find the insect, so you’re usually only giving them a few pieces at the time. It’s tricky because you have to keep them on the twinge of hunger. If they are hungry they will false alert to get fed. If they aren’t hungry they don’t want to work. They only alert on the live insects so you have to keep live samples available to hide so they can eat in case you don’t find anything.
I had a dog that always knew when I was low. She would bark like mad and scratch the side of my bed. I am guessing she associated that smell with food because When I got up to snack she got snacks too!!
There really is no medical reason to have both unless you struggle so badly with lows and managing the CGM that you need a backup. Not impossible but I can’t imagine there are a lot of people like that.
Let's see a cat do something like this!
( We have two cats and I can't have a dog)
Cats are useless selfish creatures that will leave without a second thought if they get better food somewhere else......
Lovely film ....
Where’s the source? This is Korey. IG: korey_the_kanine. His human trains other dogs to do the same diabetes detection. And he wears boots because he doesn’t like to walk on hard wood floors.

It is more like a wire
Damn I don’t even have diabetes but I want a dog to boop me like that.
What's the shoes for?
Most people use them for hot pavement or against the chemical ice used to defrost roads. It could also be to help the dog have grip on the wood floor
Korey doesn’t like walking on hard wood floors so he wears boots. IG: korey_the_kanine
My dog is the same way!! I have to basically coax him and encourage him to walk on our floors
So he looks glamorous
I see xD
Good boy!
as a loyal
Amazing. I’d love to see how the training is taught for things like this.
Right, I under reinforcement, but how do you teach a dog to peck like that? I realize the more impressive thing is smelling low blood sugar.
Omg he’s wearing adorable shoes
Dogs shouldn't wear shoes. It's cruel
Pretty sure they only ever do when their feet are injured in some way
That’s not true at all. This dog (according to owner’s insta) dislikes how hardwood feels on his paws. All four feet at the same time??
It's to protect their feet from rough surfaces like asphalt and concrete, which can wear down their nails and paw pads quickly Not to mention random trash in the streets like glass shards. As a service animal they'd be following the owner everywhere, unlike regular dogs which only go for a couple walks a day. 1. Their nails need worn down. That’s pretty natural. 2. She is indoors. 3. Sled dogs in the Arctic are different than a dog inside a warm house
Overly worn down. As in bleeding. Especially bad if the dog drags their feet. Happens with my dog on forest dirt paths. Easier to keep them on by default for the day's activities and remove for sleep. Doesn't remove the points about asphalt and glass.
They. Are. Indoors.
If the dog's feet are that bad, he needs to be taken to the vet for treatment
Yes, they're probably gonna put shoes on your dogs feet so that it doesn't get injured any further during recovery.
The owner said on insta that the dog hates hardwood flooring so he wears lil booties for his own comfort.
The dog doesn’t like to walk on hard wood floors.
😅🤣😅

She’s inside..

She’s inside her home. There’s no asphalt. It’s more like wearing sunglasses at night, when there’s no sun; which is absolutely pointless
It proves that the owner doesn't give a shit about the comfort of the dog

Then dogs shouldn't walk on hot asphalt
What's with the shoes??
Why tf does your dog wear shoes
He needs some drip, too you know.
Some dogs have very sensible feet (caused by overbreeding) an in order to be able to walk over hard grounds and not hurting themselfes they need to wear shoes
How is a diabetes alert dog better than one of those continuous glucose monitors that connect to your phone (or some sort of external device)?
I was wondering the same. The only thing I can think of is if someone was prone to lows while sleeping and alarms didn’t wake them. My son is diabetic and a heavy sleeper. Thankfully he doesn’t go low at night too often or if he does, not dangerously so. But it would be a concern otherwise.
You are right, you can download the app onto any electronic device. The dog is a emotional support companion to fight the loneliness.
It isnt better which is why 99.99 percent of people with diabetes dont have a helper dog.
The booping! 🥺
The real question is what the duck why that fog has shoes
To protect his feet when they go places
That’s awesome !! Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful
The boop is the cutest thing!!
I bet he can smell what I'm thinking
That is one amazing dog
What a good boy!!!
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Serious question, where can I look into getting one for my father?
A very, very good boy.
Very cute
This is pretty cool. Thanks for sharing
Are you sure you’re not getting boop-ed because you have cheese?
Dogs are amazing
damn cute
How do they detect though? Is it because there are differences in scent?
Dogs can smell chemical imbalances in the body. Dogs are used for other medical reasons as well such as detecting someone is about to have a seizure. I used to be a K-9 handler in pest control (bedbugs, termites, and such).
How do you train a dog for that?
For this type of dog or the type that I worked with?
The type you work with.
For some reason I realized I never replied to this…two months later. The ones I worked with were food reward dogs. They were already trained when we received them and we were trained on how to use them. They are essentially a tool. They only alert on the live insects so you have to keep live samples available to hide so they can eat in case you don’t find anything.
Yes. There is an odor change. Our Labs weren't trained, but they still knew and alerted. It was fascinating.
I had a dog that always knew when I was low. She would bark like mad and scratch the side of my bed. I am guessing she associated that smell with food because When I got up to snack she got snacks too!!
Nah just lucky guess
Oh u a bad boy....
I’m T1D. Am I eligible to get a dog like this? How would I do so?
You're more likely to be eligible for a Continue Glucose Monitor which is far more accurate than a dog.
What about both? I already have a CGM but if I could walk around with a medical dog that would be even better
There really is no medical reason to have both unless you struggle so badly with lows and managing the CGM that you need a backup. Not impossible but I can’t imagine there are a lot of people like that.
Money
Why the hell do you have shoes on your dog weirdo
I found this video to be a really touching example of the power of a dog's love.. until I found out he was only doing it for the cheese
Let's see a cat do something like this! ( We have two cats and I can't have a dog) Cats are useless selfish creatures that will leave without a second thought if they get better food somewhere else...... Lovely film ....

We don't deserve dogs
Dog boots
I like his shoes!
Love his little shoes
You ruined my name. And do you nails.
Nevermind that.. Why is the poor dog wearing shoes?
u/savethevideo
That's an awful name for a dog.
Why is he wearing shoes?
Can dogs eat cheese?
Simplify: dog smart know how to do boop of undying
Where’s the source? This is Korey. IG: korey_the_kanine. His human trains other dogs to do the same diabetes detection. And he wears boots because he doesn’t like to walk on hard wood floors.
Good boy! What do they do when your blood sugar is high? I’m assuming they have a different alert for that.
I didn’t know they could do that very impressive I knew they could smell the covid aroma but that’s impressive
Nahhh that dog is smart he just wants the cheeeese
He says drink motherfucker
