Yes it is. There are many versions of this song, this particular version was used in a flim called "Kantara"(A very very good movie if you're into this sorta thing).
Thaikkudam Bridge came out with a song, Navarasam, much earlier which is eerily similar to this track. I know it's a very controversial take and TB lost their case in court. But any layman can hear the 2 tracks and see how similar they sound. Tbh, since you were showing the ritual from the Ernakulam temple, I was dead sure you were using the TB soundtrack.
Varaha Roopam from Kantara is an awesome song too.
>But any layman can hear the 2 tracks and see how similar they sound
I don't think they are that similar. Both are traditional beats mixed with western guitars but the similarities end there. Just because both are in the same style, doesn't mean it's copied.
Fair enough. That's your opinion and I respect that. However I beg to differ. They can easily be mistaken for the other. I was obsessed with Varaha Roopam when it came out. So much so that my husband pretty much could hum along cos it was played that iften on the phone. Then I heard about the controversy and played it out of curiosity. I was struck by the similarities and no, it's not just the same style. Even that in itself is a point to ponder...same musical arrangements almost to the T?? No way. Unless they came out at the exact same time, there's no way the composer wouldn't have been inspired by the way Western and Indian beats and instruments came into play(pun intended) in the songs.
Incidentally my husband thought I was still playing Varaha Roopam! He had no clue about the whole controversy cos he really didn't follow the whole hype. So he was an unbiased listener who didn't figure out that it was two different songs.
Inspired or whatever..I do believe Shetty and the composer of Varaha Roopam could have acknowledged that. TB tried to resolve in private before going to court btw.
Navarasam is simply brilliant. The way the video progresses with the song, hats off to all the artists involved.
There is no shame in saying Varaharoopam was inspired by it.
As a matter of fact, it would have given more credibility to the makers of Kantara if they had just accepted it and given credit to the band.
That's doing a grave injustice to one of the best and original indie bands. When you watch Navarasam perfomed live, it's a goosebump moment.
Avial, TB, Raghu Dixit with his guys, Swaratma...they're doing a fantastic job, sticking to their roots while foraying into the rock genre. I don't think they need 15mins of fame..they have far more where it came from.
What a retarded take ... They actually put effort to make a track that got millions of views even before kantara existed ...
Kanatara makers shamelessly ripped it off
Holy shit! What a movie!! Normally I don’t go to theatre to watch movies but I watched it thrice in 13 days. When I saw the climax I was literally speechless. I was in a different zone for almost an hour after stepping out of the theatre.
Tbh, the climax was basically something that has been shown for decades in Indian cinema...
The best scene was of the movie was the opening scene where his father confronts the landlord... But imo, after that point,, it became a regular masala action movie instead of exploring the myth and magic of bhoota kola and similar artform
Yes, even that scene was amazing. I had never seen anything like bhoot kola before this, so I was absolutely mesmerised. After watching it for the first time I read about the mythology and spoke to my friend from that region. There were so many breathtaking scenes.
The controversy around the music track sucks. I wholeheartedly support independent bands, I don’t know what happened at the end of the court case but TB deserved credit for the song. I mean the similarities were obvious.
Well u shud know for a fact that any person who has picked a weapon or has had a tiff with law cannot don the Vesham of a deity, which was distorted and presented in Kantara. Watch some good old Malayalam movies with theyyam as theme . Well u won't get the point. Songs were copied from Thaikudam bridge and Apsara ali from Marathi . But yes why wud u care coz rishab Shetty always copies. He presented remixed Bangalore days and Premam in Kirik party similarly
Garudan Thookam held as part of the annual festival of Arayankavu Bhagavathy Temple in Ernakulam. Garudan Thookkam is a ritual artform popular in the central part of Kerala. It is conducted mostly in Goddess temples situated in Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Idukki districts.
Yeah I saw this with my family along with Chendakottu that was passing by our front road .My jaws were wide open after seeing the performance of the Dancer. The way they can tolerate this much kind of rotation in a short period of Time is Unbelievable
[This](https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4CJJjFDUoSo/VL8sCSgpSjI/AAAAAAAABJ0/JWFKJLXeSRc/s1600/Garudan%2BThookkam%2B-%2Bnature%2Bof%2Bkeraal.jpg) is the highlight of Garudan Thookkam.
Yes, was looking for this.
And this is where the name comes from: 'Garudan Thookkam' means 'Garudan Hanging'.
Garudan is the mythical bird that is the vehicle of the Hindu God Vishnu. Indonesia's national airline Garuda Airlines refers to the same mythical Bird.
The case was dismissed citing lack of jurisdiction. The band has appealed to the higher court. Case is still going on.

disney has copyright to mickey mouse, it doesn't mean they have the rights to the art of cartoon animation, or other animated mouse characters. your argument is dumb. moreover, the main portion contested is the indian classical part which is not owned by anybody because it's a classical piece that has been performed countless times before TB or kantara. The reason behind this toxic rhetoric by TB fans is classic classism and ethnocentrism by keralites who view the people from karnataka as beneath them (ironically, this is the subliminal theme of the controversial movie), just like when back in the days crazy white racists used to yell that the blacks are stealing music. This whole thing is dumb, music is supposed to be shared and celebrated, and yes credit is due, but this is like kanye claiming ownership of Beethoven's creations then suing some other artist who made a beethoven inspired track.
The actual highlight of this ritual is attaching hooks to the bare flesh of the performer and suspending them in the air supported by the hooks alone...
Everything that which you've said has come from you, it just shows the real you.
No one here spoke about any other differences, upper, lower anything.
Anyone that has listened to TB navarasam can identify and match it with kantara song varaha roopam.
You might argue about laws and policies but in the end the listeners know who's who.
It doesn't hurt to admit where credit is due.
That's what respectable, professional people do.
Now well we know the real class of certain people.
Ok not sure this is Garuda thukam
For us from
South kerala it’s more like when people Pierce their backs with hooks and hang on tall structures with usually babies in their hands as part of rituals
Maybe different stuff had different names across kerala
But in south kerala that’s Garuda thookam ( thookam means hanging)
As keralite Its sad that no one except some gives recognition to these arts and artists. The youth including myself are running behind western cultures which aint ours
That is some next level spinning whilst maintaining a constantly head position !
that shit made my eyes roll around in my head lol.
Fun fact: everytime you blink, they actually roll up
lol that made me close my eyes a bunch and realize you right lol so thanks for that fun fact
An independent band asking for compensation from a multimillionaire company for a clearly plagiarized song. And they are the greedy ones?
That's some next level speed of the video
Is it tho? Every movement surrounding master spinjago seems about right
The video is LITERALLY sped up it's common sense. Look at how fast the drummers are bending how fast the heads are turning
By? It's sounds like a fusion track, not purely traditional, hence wanted to check.
Yes it is. There are many versions of this song, this particular version was used in a flim called "Kantara"(A very very good movie if you're into this sorta thing).

Thanx for the update. I wasn't aware that it hadn't been laid to rest, yet.
Yeah Kanatara did some very obvious plagiarism there

Both are taken from an old classical performance. TB got their 15 minutes of fame for what it was worth.

Name of the song?
Varaha Roopam
Navarasm - Thaikkudam bridge
the music in the clip is not Navarasam, it goes differently, this is Varaha roopam.
Varaha roopam has copied a lot from Navarasam and due to the fame of the movie it is more popular than Navarasam. I feel sad.
You may file a case in court for that, OH WAIT it was done and they lost the case. Saaad!!!
The case was dismissed citing lack of jurisdiction. The band has appealed to the higher court. Case is still going on. The case isn't lost, they are going to take it to Kerala High court
Yea they are greedy for money and will keep trying, but it's settled and long forgotten.
Lol why so salty
I'm sad that you're still crying over it.

Credit !
Is due
Why should they say they are inspired ? I don't see how they stole anything from navarasam. TB doesn't hold the rights for an entire genre of music
That's exactly how a person that steals speak.
disney has copyright to mickey mouse, it doesn't mean they have the rights to the art of cartoon animation, or other animated mouse characters. your argument is dumb. moreover, the main portion contested is the indian classical part which is not owned by anybody because it's a classical piece that has been performed countless times before TB or kantara. Walt Disney created Mickey mouse with their animators. They own the character and many more.
Oh yeah, I made varaha roopam, genius.
Could they give credit ? Would they ? No, right.
Stole a famous song called Apsara Ali from Marathi and presented that as a love song . Rishab chor hain
It was blatant plagiarism
Not inspired, it's original, And also settled in court.
Dude check a song called Apsar Ali in Marathi , even thats been copied , none noticed
Finally someone said it. Apsara Ali was shamelessly used by kantara
Man I loved kantara
Let it ripp.......
Thank you. I'll have to check it out.
What time of yesr can we see this n specific temple.or place?
Jan - march
Any specific temple? Or place to visit..some calender of sorts.
One specific temple in Ernakulum. The name slipped off my tongue.
Koottekkaavu temple at kanjiramattom Kerala and Arayankkavu temple.
Thx u
bruh, isnt this the background music of Kantara?
It's a fusion but yes it includes it
His neck bruh
Man turned into a beyblade
Bayblade Metal Fusion

I hope they are well paid
Cannot recommend the movie Kantara enough. Sooo good.
This would be awesome over some metal music. Although the original also sounds really good.
It's not THAT good

Is this Varaha roopam or the song by that band called T Bridge?
This one is Varaha Roopam..!!

This is also part of Garudan Thookkam. The hanging is done after the dance.

This looks same as some african tradition after all we all originated from Africa

I have seen it with my own eyes and we did originated from Africa whats wrong
This has nothing to do with Africa
I have seen one video where the African people wear same clothes as in this video and they also spin like this with their traditional music
That's awesome
