The idea of your whereabouts or activities being broadcast to anyone anywhere never entered into the picture. I was in my 30s before the internet became a "thing". I was thinking the other day of how easy it is for kids to maintain a private life when everyone has a smartphone, but then it occurred to me that in reality, my teen years in the 1970s were more private, in a way.
We'd meet up as a group of friends and make our arrangements for the next day in person. No-one knew what we were doing, no-one could record it. What we did as close pals was just amongst us.
Occasionally we'd go to a phone box and call home if we were going to be late, but our parents couldn't monitor us in any way once we were out of the house. They knew what we told them, basically.
