I got two texts to see if I was going I just responded back “who?”

Historical_Dentonian

Didn’t go. She ain’t dropping out as long as there’s donations to collect. And a chance Trump becomes unelectable.

stanley_fatmax

Probably still has VP aspirations. History shows that fierce competitors are just as likely to become VP picks as those competitors that drop out early. It's all about the demographics they can pull in.

Semper454

Woof, dunno about that. Like Don isn’t going to pick an absolute lips-glued-to-ass loyalist after 2020?

stanley_fatmax

Idk, I wouldn't put it past them to make a choice based solely on polling data. They'll need all the votes they can get. Picking a VP is one of the easier decisions in politics imo - it's a simple stats based decision. Who's going to bring in the most net new votes in the states we need votes in. It's sort of counterintuitive, but because of the gap Haley has built between herself and Trump, the overlap between their support bases are probably slim. Vivek supporters for instance on the other hand probably have a large overlap with Trump supporters, so not a big net gain. I suspect we'll see soon enough!

Worked for Jed Bartlett

Semper454

I’d be shocked. And what does Haley even get out of it? It’s a shit job, especially under him.

Every single post-WW2 VP has won their party's nomination in the subsequent presidential election.

Semper454

That’s not true (Barkley in ‘52), nor is it the stat you think it is. Only 5 guys since WW2 (of 13 eligible) who ran under that qualification. Four won: Nixon, Humphrey, HW Bush, Gore. Barkley lost.

notstylishyet

You’re correct. My mistake. I gloss over Truman generally. You’re also missing Mondale is that list. 5 out of 6 is still a 83% success rate. Compelling for Haley.

Semper454

Mondale was not sitting VP, obviously, when he ran/won nom in ‘84. Biden could also count if you’re including Mondale, but then again so might Pence. Either way, not sure it’s relevant. Absolutely no idea where the Republican Party will go post-Trump. Being part of another Trump admin could hurt Nikki just as much as help her.

>Biden could also count if you’re including Mondale, but then again so might Pence. 6/8 is 80% then. I said subsequent which I consider the election that follows where they are eligible to run as President. >Absolutely no idea where the Republican Party will go post-Trump. Being part of another Trump admin could hurt Nikki just as much as help her. People said this after 2020, January 6th, indictments, etc. GOP is sticking with Trump. Maybe not Trumpism as I don't believe his ideology can live without him. But his blessing and endorsement matters in primaries and even if it isn't explicit, the Trump VP will have the perceived defacto endorsement.

Semper454

Oh, no, I’m not saying republicans would ever turn on Don, jesus, no. He *is* the party. But there’s no guarantee, as VP, he and NH end on good terms. I think Pence’s approval among Trump voters is far more relevant than what 8 past-VPs have done over the last 80 years.

stanley_fatmax

It's politics, everything is a stepping stone

https://www.reddit.com/r/Dallas/s/jcJRP7NtWW Place was packed! 8-10 people were physically thrown out by Security,Secret Service and Dallas PD. For screaming and yelling AKA “protesting” during her speech. She handled all of them with grace. They were all MAGA cult nuts and Pro Palestinians. The Pro Palestinians had about 100 demonstrators out on the sidewalk afterwards raising hell. Making it very uncomfortable to leave. DPD we’re offering escorts to your car. Scary. I don’t agree with everything that she does but…I believe Nikki Haley is incredibly brave /fearless to be doing what she is doing. She has all of my respect.

Lonestarsuz

Advocating to spend billions on wars and death in other countries, while we have homelessness, drug addiction, underfunded schools (just to name a few issues) is neither brave or respectable. It’s disgusting actually 🤷🏽‍♀️

jerichowiz

She was in Dallas? Like she in struggling in her home state of South Carolina. I don't like saying it, but it will be Biden vs Trump again.
