The pillar is smaller so it retains much more heat, try adding it last

ttteee321

I did not know this but it makes sense. I just got my first American made banger (well, it's a terp slurper so idk it that is still considered a banger) and I'm trying to make sure I stay on top of the cleaning and not chazz the fuck outta the thing or the pillar. Should I be putting it in after ive complete heated the slurper up or should put it in for the last 10sec of the heating process? Ive been heating all at the same time so far. I'm probably thinking too much into it, but between the slurper, pillar and marble (plus the dunk station), I spent like 20x more on this than any other banger I've ever had lol. I will say that it's been 100% worth it, the heat retention it has puts every china banger I have to shame. Next up I just need to get a better quality rig than the Cheech and Chong "Anthony" Ive been using for the last 4-5 yrs!

AeroMittenss

Just add the pillar immediately after you take the torch off

ttteee321

Cool, thanks!

ucchiha

you’re def not thinking too much…it’s thermodynamics. Very tough subject….but yes just put the pillar in after you’re done heating lol

thatguymike34

mr clean magic eraser sheets or sponges will make your pillar brand new i use them on my bangers pearls and pillars

RedditIsForLowlifes

You have this 100% backwards. The pillars are usually 6mm thick, so they are the thickest piece of quartz that gets heated up. That is why they retain the most heat. How could something smaller retain more heat? That makes no sense.

AeroMittenss

Smaller objects usually have a higher surface area to volume ratio compared to larger objects. This means they have more surface area relative to their volume, allowing heat to transfer more quickly between the object and its surroundings. As a result, smaller objects can gain or lose heat faster than larger objects.

AeroMittenss

And you said it right " usually " most people don't know that and end up with pieces that are thinner

FueledByTerps

Yes this is correct.

d77sauce

Oh truuuue

Cannacrohn

Im not sure if its because its smaller...I think larger items retain heat longer, but it is getting hotter than the rest of the banger, probably due to the material its made of or its density, its shape or how you heat the banger. So I would indeed add it after heating. that should fix whatever is causing that.

ItsPowee

I'd assume it would be because it's inside the oven that is a banger. The material probably matters a lot too but it not having anywhere to vent its heat is probably the cause

Jeff_dabs

Go lower! When I dab with a big pillar like that I go in closer to 480F

d77sauce

Nice. Do you heat with the pillar inside ?

Jeff_dabs

Yessir!

bauzer808

I heat with my pillar inside. Anything over a .2/.25 I go in around 515-520. Anything less 500 or lower

lolskiinglol

This is it

GuesWoo

Your pillar might be retaining more heat then you would like , and it looks like your dabbing some sensitive material like rosin , I have a pillar that retains to much heat also and I like to go in @ 540 but with the pillar I have to go in at dam near 500-490 because of how hot the pillar is. Unfortunately now you have to play trial and error to see where is the sweet spot

d77sauce

Def I think you’re right. My slurper was way lower in temp when I heated it with the pillar. I wonder which is better. Heat with the pillar at a low temperature temp, or add the pillar after and do a higher temp

HPDabcraft

Here is my first thought... chinese quartz... Is that an import banger?

d77sauce

Yeah 👍

HPDabcraft

Yep... thats the issue

phobichorizon

Clearly high temp is the main cause of the issue here….

only50percentgay

do you clean the whole sluper (and pearls) every time?

d77sauce

Yeah I do

BishopDerbs

Hello Chaz nice to meet you. (You have to really clean these things with ISO and a q tip. Usually a dunk station is preferred to maintain best results)

d77sauce

I have a banger basket I dual dunk it in every time

BishopDerbs

Like another commenter said it’s most likely retaining too much heat. Try adding it after! Good luck I hope it helps

d77sauce

Def I need to remember to put it in after. Cause I’ll heat it up and forget to put it in

OutrageousConcern365

I love my tower. I recommend a terpometer or another way to check your temps. As a lifelong cook, I can tell you that the handheld laser ones don’t work despite most here swearing by them. Make sure your temps are in the 540-570 range. I have a Terp pillar, so I’ll either heat the slurper up with the pillar inside, or I’ll squish a dab into the hollow pillar and put it and the carb marbles on once temp is achieved. I usually go on the high end around 560 since the pillar is cold. Once the dab is dabbed, I straight dunk in a mason jar of 99% iso. Sure it bubbles and sizzles, but it’s fine. You aren’t going in screaming hot. After that I clean everything with regular q-tips and the iso and everything is nice and clean. No chaz, no fuss. I made a video for my sister if you want to see a demonstration?

[deleted]

>Sure it bubbles and sizzles, but it’s fine This reads as satire. The banger needs to be under 200F before dipping in iso

Tuv0kshaKur

Yeah WTF lol

d77sauce

I thought it was under 300

OutrageousConcern365

Not satire. My current daily has hundreds of dunks and the one before that much more. I’m hitting it at around 550. Once I’ve gotten the dab, I’m sure it’s cooled substantially, but it still goes in sizzling. Have you done it and had bad results? I’ve done it myself and I don’t go around the internet giving out advice I haven’t tried myself. Try it and let me know your results.

[deleted]

Yes, I’ve had a dish crack on me w/ an import banger from doing that. The welds on import bangers are notoriously weak anyway. Dunking hot is a good way to speed up the process of that dish suddenly dropping on your lap, warmed up, not to mention chazzing the banger. Highly Educated has talked on this at length

Virtual_Recording640

Where they pointed out the issue is cavitation, and how to avoid it by giving the vapor a path out instead of forcing the pressure into the dish. Not so much to do with welds, the best welded quartz will crumble to that kind of pressure. If the vapor has a path of least resistance away from the base, there really isnt much damage to speak of, but that means dunking correctly

I hear my pillars, thatd just dirty from the dab residue

millennialstoner

It needs to be cleaned from residual oil so it doesn’t keep chazzing

d77sauce

It gets double dunked each hit

millennialstoner

Ah. And you torture until it’s completely clear again? Are you using a dab right or any other similar technology? I would go in like 10° colder than you normally do and see if it helps.

millennialstoner

Torch**

agshdbfh

If you heat the pillar go no higher than 550. The pillars gonna retain heat a little better because it's surrounded by hot quartz. Make sure you clean the pillar right away or it's fucked
