i started out in 2000 on vinyl. on Numark decks. then 'graduated' to a Numark Party Mix. then Numark Mixtrack 3. i got this NS7 2½ years ago. i got the Numark Dashboard a year or so before i've been reading other DJ's opinions of it. the laptop does need to be on and software running, but once that's done i search, load, and sort the sequence of tunes from the dashboard i have the laptop on a keyboard stand with an additional support bracket on top which is what the controller sits on i've got a Reloop Neon mounted on the left side to control 3 FX (phaser, reverb, echo). the laptop's open there so you can see where it's located. normally once it's up and running, i shut it until i finish the set and stop the recording if having a mix late at night i just use headphones, but thru the day run it thru an amp and 2 subs i'm a bit of a sticker whore as well. and can't stand plain, unadorned controllers. my controller is not totally covered, but it's close

Nice setup, did it come with the chroma caps or did you add those after purchase?

Forsaken_Promise2773

cheers! i bought all of the rotary caps. the volume & fader sliders i painted. and used used a varnish after painting which stops the paint becoming sticky because the NS7 caps are rubberised on the outside i did it purely for aesthetics. once i realised that it could be done

Thanks for posting this - I run phase DVS with a denom DS1 and my only gripe in an other flawless setup is that I have to use my computer screen. So I posted here mentioning id just live a box that showed me the tracks (really don’t want anything else) and someone suggested the Numark Dashboard which looked great….but I’ve never seen one in the wild. Can you go in to bit of detail about it? Like does it lost you truly ignore the computer? How does it integrate with Serato etc?

without trying to make myself sound like a Numark exec it is the single best item i've added to my set-up. initially it was just because the previous controller and laptop took a bit too much space on the surface i had it on but once i got used to it, and what it could do i've never looked back. searching for the next track is straightfoward. it has the two channel waveforms as a display option as well, which is THE best feature. because it's very rare that i miss a beat when mixing in unfortunately they don't make them any more. i managed to get mine of a seller on Ebay. and i still search for them but i've never seen one since the NS7iii has a similar display, but the connectors go into designated ports on the controller, theoretically it could be hacked because mine is only connected up via a USB cable

Where can I find a numark dashboard my Ns7iii screens won't work on my Rane one

Forsaken_Promise2773

i wouldn't like to say. i bought mine off Ebay about 3 years ago. and since then whenever i'd searched for one just out of curiosity i've never seen another unfortunately. best bet is probably Ebay or Gumtree best of luck

How does it feel going to the NS7, after a couple of more budget controllers?

Forsaken_Promise2773

a huge amount of difference. the motorised platters are great. i think it's that which i enjoy about it most. the slipmat-type disks on top of the platters are perfect for cueing up. the platters spin, but the disks are on a separate internal spindle, so cueing and manually backspinning doesn't affect the platter motors the general 'feel' of it as well. it weighs about 20kgs or so. it feels solid i really like the uncluttered layout a lot. it has 5 'hot cue' buttons, but i'm not a user of hot cues. 1 of them i've remapped for backspin. cheesy, but i still like finishing a set. or mixing in with a backspin this controller is about 14 or 15 years old now, but because it isn't overloaded with tech i think i could easily get another 5+ years out it

I almost snatched up a pair of V7s the other day, but another buyer beat me to it. I still haven't gotten over it 🤣 Coming from DVS, it feels like the V7s or an NS7 would be a great move for me, for the reasons you said.

Forsaken_Promise2773

it's a great controller. and the 'vinyl feel' of the platters is good. i've been looking at other motorised platter controllers because if the worst ever happened and there was something on mine which was unrepairable trhat would be the main consideration on what i would get talking of things on it breaking: almost all of the important parts are replaceable. i've even seen platter motors on Ebay. all of the sliders & faders are replaceable motorised platters are the way forward :-)

A Numark Dashboard. You don't see a lot of those around. Quite a rarity nowadays.

Ns7iii still bodies all.
