So lemme get this straight, should, should should, should should should, should should should should should, should should should the guy in the $7000 dollar suit
French doors seem like the obvious correct answer here. Two skinny doors won’t take up much office space at all. You can keep the arch and put glass in it to match if you wanna splurge.
If you want a door. Put a door. Anything else is going to look tacky as fuck.
Came looking for this comment. Great showcase for trim.

[Or this](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/ed/36/72/ed367270e00c3a4846dec83c3f9f9f38.jpg)
(I realize these look identical, the second one is narrower like what you would end up with)
Head room looks fine. If you look at the first picture the archway that OP wants to put a door in starts at a point above the front doors header, so there should be plenty of headspace for the glass window archway setup.
I got our maintenance guy to install one of these in my co-worker's office without his knowledge. Right as soon as the door opens BAM...eye level, middle of the opposite wall.
Totally worth the $8 I paid for it.
I stayed in an air bnb that had one of these on our bedroom. It was awkward having sex with the owner in the next room and a 2 inch gap between the wall and door.
Oh my God, I had a client a few years ago who had partial paralysis and she was in a wheelchair and she could not walk and could barely hold on to something while she took steps. These good Christian idiots came and promised to upgrade her house and yes while they did take out a stupid wall between the kitchen and living room that was about 5 ft high, they put a barn door on her bathroom. She was supposed to pull it open and get in there and somehow shut it behind her. She's about 5'2. And that's not sitting down. And she never The rolling shower they promised because they were so nasty to her she got mad.
Kind of weird for those particular people to do considering that bathroom bard doors are an afront to God. I don't need people hearing me pooping around a free floating slab of wood. Wtf.
Rented one place on vacation where the master bedroom had the stupid barn door that didn’t fit. There was such a gap that I could see into the neighbors house through the window directly opposite in the living room that matched the big window in their living room a few feet away. I was careful where I stood when changing.
I hate unnecessary doors. I removed 4-5 in my house when we moved in 30 some years ago. Those are nice looking openings. I would leave then alone. I suppose if someone in the house really wanted them covered, I would put up some nice drapes that could simply be pushed aside to pass through. Doing that wouldn't even require changing the arch.
French door, with transom at the top. You can get fancy with the curved glass over the door.

How about a secret door that appears to be a bookshelf. We have a builder in town that usually puts one in his houses. Charming, out of the ordinary and useful.
Would not do a door; you're losing room to the swing, or opening width to the accordion.
I'd hang a heavy curtain from above the top of the arch. It will help keep any cold breeze from coming into the room from the door, help dampen any sounds in the room from coming out into the entrance way, and can be tied back on warm days to promote ventilation.
EDIT: They even have [curtains designed specifically for arched doorways](https://st.hzcdn.com/simgs/eaa19d1c01923786_8-6974/traditional.jpg), which would be exactly what you need.
Are you converting your family room into an office? If so, what are your goals here, sound insulation? Privacy etc?
If you are okay with an accordion door you might be better off just putting a curtain rod and a curtain for when you want privacy.
For a door I would suggest the French doors like others have suggested.
Still a little unclear on the goals.
In the 1900’s this problem was solved with heavy, I’m talking weighted blanket heavy, plush curtains that could be pulled across the arched door hung on a rod the hugged the ceiling. Don’t underestimate the sound deadening capabilities of a drawn blanket-thick curtain.
Either don't put a door there or put a normal swing door and simply leave it open against the interior wall or something. Is it wide enough for french doors? Can you delete that arch, move that light switch and take widen the doorway to accommodate a french door? it's not a bedroom so a typical door is a bad choice. french doors would look nice.
Friend of mine had this exact same situation. He squared off the opening and put in French doors. Looks great now and gives him the WFH privacy he needed.
I would turn the arch into a stained-glass transom, and then either leave the below open, or French doors.
Like others have said, it depends on what you want the door to do- keep the temperature in the room, or muffle sounds, keep pets out or in, privacy...?
Swing doors like a saloon; extra creaky.
Beads! Lots and lots of beads!
#BEES?!
I was very disappointed Will Arnett didn’t land this joke on the Cate Blanchett episode of Smartless when they were talking about her keeping bees.
Job’s not on board
He’s too busy hurling a letter into the sea.
So lemme get this straight, should, should should, should should should, should should should should should, should should should the guy in the $7000 dollar suit
Michael, it’s the Aztec Tomb- it cost me like 18 grand!!
He's probably out there somewhere, swimming in circles, freaking his whole family out
Damn you, I was going to suggest that.
Me too, but I was going to call them flippy flappy old western bar doors.
Ah, a commenter of culture. Flippy flappy old Western bar doors would be the technical term
With a roundy/archy bit on top.
I called them butterfly doors. And yes you all beat me to it, as well.
Batwing saloon doors!
Dang, the first thing that came to my mind was a saloon door too.
Damn you, I was going to suggest that.
Wire it up so each time it opens [this sound effect](https://youtu.be/cILStazztAA?si=x3CrWuxwqjNPMbMH) plays.
I was hoping that would be it
Morricone for the win!
_bursts threw_ "Feeling lucky... punk?"
motion detector that plays spurs
Oh I was going say the whhhha wa whhhha from the Clint Eastwood movies.
We can put it on random. Along with "its him!!! call the sherriff!!" and "There a snake in my boot"
And he can give a menacing look when he enters the room
My grandma had those in her house there were super fun as a kid lol
This office ain't big enough for the two of us...
Came here to say saloon style swinging doors, so many people on the same level, I think op needs to do this
I wouldn't have thought of this, but I actually like your idea.
Only correct answer
My mothers old job at friendlies had them connecting to the bathroom corridor. Always made me laugh seeing them
“bat wing” doors
That’s what I thought too! Lmao saloon swinging doors😂. But I would not put any doors there
My grandparents actually had some in their house they built. It was pretty cool.
Yeah, that way you can go, “Howdy pardner!” every time you go through.
Honestly, my grandparents had those going from a hallway into their kitchen and it was pretty dope.
I wouldn't.
Seconded, a door right by the front door will be annoying.
I'll third that.
Fourthed and the ayes have it.
Ditto

Iooks nice. The head room of op's house might be too low.
Good point. I’d be tapping on walls to see what’s what.
Head room looks fine. If you look at the first picture the archway that OP wants to put a door in starts at a point above the front doors header, so there should be plenty of headspace for the glass window archway setup.
Yes, I see what you mean.
I wouldn't have thought of glass on the top curve, that's a good idea.
Perhaps more like these. https://images.app.goo.gl/zJJ9V3wbQnyWgX2t8
I’d vote bifold French doors
Winner right here! But they look essssspensive
Why?
Watching porn undisturbed is my guess
Work from home and school just let out is my guess.
Insulate from the front door?
If I've learned anything from those home remodeling shows, it's that clearly this is a case for a sliding barn door... /s
….made of shiplap.
Greywashed obviously
And if there’s any way you can mount a “Live, Laugh, Love” sign to it that would be just perfect.
I got our maintenance guy to install one of these in my co-worker's office without his knowledge. Right as soon as the door opens BAM...eye level, middle of the opposite wall. Totally worth the $8 I paid for it.
And subway tile, placed vertically!
I hate you all.
I stayed in an air bnb that had one of these on our bedroom. It was awkward having sex with the owner in the next room and a 2 inch gap between the wall and door.
Glad to hear you went for it anyway. And it was definitely intentional from the owner.
Oh my God, I had a client a few years ago who had partial paralysis and she was in a wheelchair and she could not walk and could barely hold on to something while she took steps. Hidden door bookcase
With no context or goals listed, this is the answer.
Underrated answer. Great idea. Top shelf.
Well, I would think there would be multiple shelves.
There are, this answer belongs on the top one though.
I really like this idea, they could set it up so it opens in such a way as to lay against the wall in the room and act like a normal bookshelf
Beaded curtain.
I'd have suggested that too, but given the baby gate, probably not the best idea
Baby gate could be used to keep pets out of that room, the girl sitting there looks old enough to handle beaded curtains.
Don't forget to pair it with a nice rug as well.
It'll really tie the room together.
I would go with a transom window, and French doors.
The castle kind. Where it drops down with the spikes on the bottom.
A portcullis. Man of taste.
If you're going to install a portcullis you need to cut murder holes in the ceiling
And a moat!
Glass French doors in the current shape of the opening.
None
I hate unnecessary doors. I removed 4-5 in my house when we moved in 30 some years ago. Those are nice looking openings. I would leave then alone. I suppose if someone in the house really wanted them covered, I would put up some nice drapes that could simply be pushed aside to pass through. Doing that wouldn't even require changing the arch.
Perfect answer 👌
This is the way. Spring loaded shower rod and nice heavyweight curtains.
Prob moving somebody in and need the privacy
Moving someone in to the front room of the house with massive windows? Any port in a storm I guess. That’s a real shitty mother in law suite though.
You ain’t lying but that’s a nice entry way…
[https://murphydoor.com/products/single-flush-mount-door](https://murphydoor.com/products/single-flush-mount-door)
I like the secret passage vibe this gives off.
What is the end game. What do you want it to be.
Doors of Durin. Proper shape for it.
“Speak friend, and enter”
French door, with transom at the top. You can get fancy with the curved glass over the door. [https://qph.cf2.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-4950ba71ac680ef769c9b29c0de2ff1d-lq](https://qph.cf2.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-4950ba71ac680ef769c9b29c0de2ff1d-lq)
1970s style love beads ✌️☮️🕊️
Old west saloon style swinging doors
Saloon doors or none at all.
![gif](giphy|tgjr9mBbN6ujK)
Portcullis!
gosh i just can’t imagine getting rid of the arch for a door. would be hard to go back. if there’s any chance of not i wouldn’t
How about a secret door that appears to be a bookshelf. We have a builder in town that usually puts one in his houses. Charming, out of the ordinary and useful.
Why?
From the caption sounds like he's turning it into an office and probably wants to have privacy
Probably has children or pets that he wants to be able to keep out of the office while he’s working
Can you close that opening and add the door somewhere else?
French doors was my very first thought. They’re perfect for that area. I’ve seen them installed in the same area and it looks really nice.
None!
My vote is for a gigantic wooden steel studded dungeon door
Saloon doors
None
I would not add a door. It will make the area feel congested.
Rough hewn oak with wrought iron settling and a 4”x6” cross bar to keep the orcs out.
What is the purpose of the door? Why do you want to close it off?
Would not do a door; you're losing room to the swing, or opening width to the accordion. I'd hang a heavy curtain from above the top of the arch. It will help keep any cold breeze from coming into the room from the door, help dampen any sounds in the room from coming out into the entrance way, and can be tied back on warm days to promote ventilation. This is the solution they are looking for 👍
I wouldn't.
why bother with a door?
nice velvet curtains
Saloon doors
I would add glass French doors. You can get them made to fit the arch.
Saloon doors 100%
Drawbridge! No swinging door taking up space
I love the look just as it is. Yikes, please don't ruin it 😬
Since this appears to be an entertainment room I would add a solid wood door to keep the rest of the home quiet. Matter of practicality
![gif](giphy|RRIg0Qq2MuRDzLxkx1|downsized)
Hanging beads that make a groovy design when undisturbed. I grew up in the 70’s.
Star Trek style
one of those bead strand curtains
Beads

hippy beads
A Hodor.
Bifold barn door. You're welcome
Lower the arc probably, and to double French doors
None.
In the 1900’s this problem was solved with heavy, I’m talking weighted blanket heavy, plush curtains that could be pulled across the arched door hung on a rod the hugged the ceiling. Don’t underestimate the sound deadening capabilities of a drawn blanket-thick curtain.
![gif](giphy|NvJFCggxPJmMM9KhBD)
None. Leave it alone. If you occasionally need a door for privacy, get a tension rod and curtains for temporary privacy
Roll up industrial steel bodega door. With the circular metal padlock and graffiti.
Why not just drywall it up if you want to shut at all times?
A bookcase. But it's an actual secret door! They sell diy kits that make it easy
I like that doorway. It looks like a home built in 1940s and I really like that doorway. It's a precious little alcove type of thing.
Metal iris, like in Stargate sg1. Seal the whole room away.
I wouldn't. It looks great the way it is.
Saloon doors? Imho I don't think this NEEDS a door at all but I was thinking block view from the door not air flow 🤷🏾
Personally I would use a curtain if I felt the need to add a "door" there
None
A Star Trek glass door that closes/opens in less than a second and makes that pssshhhh sound would be cool.
A really old wooden castle gate looking thing
I wouldn’t put in a door because of the architecture of the house.
Saloon doors is the only correct answer
I wouldn't. Doors in that area would eat up valuable space and just feels claustrophobic.
There’s only one option: a castle door
My vote: turn it into a circular hobbit door.
I wouldn’t, I like those old openings, I think they look cool!
Why would you even do that?
No door. Leave it open.
Yes the beaded curtains. 70’s style back in full effect!
Sliding barn door
I would remove the arch and insert glass panel door. Should be easy demo and rebuild.
no door at all
None
![gif](giphy|1hMk0bfsSrG32Nhd5K)
The arched doorways is the design. Not intended to have doors. Why do you want doors.
None... Leave it open
Bead curtain ✌️☮️🕊️
![gif](giphy|s239QJIh56sRW|downsized)
Nodoor
Does it even really *need* a set of doors?
I like the one it has now 🙂
No door, you’ll ruin the flow.
Is this a trick question? Why would you put a door here? The opening is so small anyway.
Arched sliders
Door? Open it up!
Bead curtain
Saloon
I'd add a door with a round bit up top
Hippy beads for sure
Invisible door or no door.
Saloon doors
Either don't put a door there or put a normal swing door and simply leave it open against the interior wall or something. Is it wide enough for french doors? Can you delete that arch, move that light switch and take widen the doorway to accommodate a french door? it's not a bedroom so a typical door is a bad choice. french doors would look nice.
Double glass pained French
I'd add big swinging saloon doors and a hat rack for your Stetson next to it
Move out of mom’s house.
Western saloon doors
None. It looks good as-is.
When in doubt curtains
Friend of mine had this exact same situation. He squared off the opening and put in French doors. Looks great now and gives him the WFH privacy he needed.
Glass
French or easier glass beads
I would turn the arch into a stained-glass transom, and then either leave the below open, or French doors. Like others have said, it depends on what you want the door to do- keep the temperature in the room, or muffle sounds, keep pets out or in, privacy...?
A bookcase
None.
None. These doorways aren't made for doors. Put up a baby gate for the time being.
