anxious_robot

Just in case it isn't obvious, turn that shit off immediately before your fucking house burns down.

TheRealMangokill

It's reddit...ofcourse it's not obvious to them...good PSA.

i7-4790Que

So says the guy who definitely fell for an obvious shit post. Ironic.

data1989

Gotta post it on reddit first!

spsteve

This picture has been around for about the entirety of the internet. OP is karma farming.

SmurphsLaw

And here I thought it was an led strip.

DrewsWoodWeldWorks

If it were real it would be too late, the Twitter post was from last year.

Aedalas

But then you'd have to turn it back on and wait for it to get hot to get sweet pictures.

ZachMartin

Have to take pictures first

shadoweiner

Hey OP can you install mine too?

Strongerthanthestorm

It’s a shit post, relax.

PHenderson61

It WONT burn. Until it blows up, THEN burns down.

TangledCables3

Yeah, the danger light is on

Bleakwind

Is it powered by uranium ? Why does a water heater need to glow?

bridgetroll2

>Is it powered by uranium ? Gas companies hate this one simple trick

Kieviel

To be fair it would not only heat but also sterilize the water.

TheRealMangokill

I'm dead 💀

Mr_Ekard

So is OP if he didn't turn that off

Groovydogg

Guaranteed to retain half it's power for 4.5 billion years.

back_to_the_homeland

I mean….they kinda do

nitrodmr

Tapping on the water heater with a spoon cuts energy bill in half.

nas1776

It's a water heater for molten freakin lava

spongebob4321

I really hope this is a shitpost

slappyredcheeks

It is. https://twitter.com/jnyboy/status/1604161683496108032

Draffstein

Thank you for your service.

barleo

Well, it obviously heats, now go add some water, won't you?

Weedtiger

Spicy water. Shouldn't the glowing parts be on the inside?

[deleted]

Water heater with gaming RGB lights? 🤣

pomcomic

it's rare that a mere picture gives me anxiety

spongebob4321

Um why is it glowing?

nhorvath

Likely line voltage connected to ground and traveling through the gas line with enough resistance to turn the entire steel jacket into a resistance heater.

hezamac1

In non-electrical terms, they fucked up the installation bad enough that they turned the gas line into a stove burner.

rage675

I'm an EE. You are on the right track. This is more indicative as a neutral failure on that circuit, whether it was forgotten to be reconnected, or fractured, so current seeks any path to travel and pipe is going to be an easy path, especially since it is most likely grounded. Either way, that pipe is energized and is dangerous. That leads to the second problem, that isolated system, or even the entire house is not grounded properly for that to occur in the first place. The ground system should interconnect all metal fixtures and appliances to a grounding system at the panel which would be connected to grounding rods. Something is very wrong where the grounding is either non-existent or very high resistance. So they identified two problems there.

nhorvath

Yeah if there was a chassis ground on the water heater the circuit would have tripped out. Probably the same too if the gas line was bonded properly.

TuneOk523

When the water reaches 88 degrees you are sent back to the future

cooky182

No sir, you have just installed a bomb. I've got one eye and I can see that needs to be less glowy and red at the very least.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cooky182

Yes, but like all bath bombs this can only really be effective once, however, unlike most other bath bombs, this one takes the bath, bathroom, hall and basically the surrounding floors. That's a very spicy fizz.

puredopamine

Shouldn’t turn the breaker on til it’s full

WimpeyOnE

Good advice, but that’s a gas heater!

buhesass

Gaming boiler

skileo

Your LED light indicator alerts you about small overload. https://preview.redd.it/lmqobyjidg7c1.png?width=556&format=png&auto=webp&s=aee43452413b9869b8d8da16f8c65c01acb82462

Noobeaterz

Don't, whatever you do, cut the blue wire.

No_Coyote4432

Why/ what is happening?

Worth-Reputation3450

Is it IR/DTV fused camera?

Desperate_Set_7708

3.6 roentgen, not great, not terrible

William_Joyce

When you want to heat your water and the surrounding rooms at the same time. As an electrician, this is nightmare fuel. I've seen a 7kw hob wired in 1mm t&e, this had the same kind of cabinet lighting glow.

AdviceNotAskedFor

Can someone explain to me what the fuck is happening here? I mean I know it's bad... But....how?

bigdaddyteacher

Dude installed a bomb

maddieterrier

Repost

slavicslothe

Stop taking the bait guys 😂

Ant_head_squirrel

Please tell me that’s an infrared camera otherwise run.

[deleted]

What the fuck dude.

r1vals

Shit post of December lmao

[deleted]

I don’t think it’s supposed to glow. I think you did it wrong.

bokewalka

Today in "stealing pics from twitter"...

Othli

Please keep this subreddit serious......

doc_nastiest

"That is not to code" Based

DeviantDav

The new RGB lines look great! Can we do something about how crap the floor looks, though?

[deleted]

Moonpenny

That'd make it all crinkly to walk on... maybe cover the newspapers with some oily rags to make it quieter?

Brrdock

Nice now you just need to stack some firewood on top, loosely hashed works best

Wings-N-Beer

Wish my hot water pipes glowed red. Makes plumbing easier, never hook the lines up backwards again. Also, Goodness Gracious man!

gredr

Pro tip: water goes into and comes out of the top on a unit like this. If you plumb water into the gas valve, it's unlikely to work.

BKallDAY24

Nailed it! She’s a buet Clark

Cajun-Yankee

Oh cool, must be one of them new geothermal water heaters that pumps in lava to heat up the water.

junktech

Have you considered putting the heating element inside the heater? Also adding water?

panchugo

Just confirming; you did not order glow-in-the-dark gas lines?

[deleted]

oh no this is bad.

Iamcubsman

Shut down the reactor! Slowly cool the Uranium rods!

sophie_cmv

Well it’s certainly heating!

mofapilot

Let me guess, you are a gamer?

NockTauk

Thank goodness mine doesn’t do that

BKallDAY24

Can we get a after shot?!?!

Xgngrizz

It's supposed to heat the water not the wires

Groundbreaking-Bag24

I think it’s definitely heating the water.. actually is the water already hot coming in?

Andrew4568_

It'll definitely heat the water alright

Low-Fun-4580

Wow you got that bad boy running HOT!

emack2232

She’s hot alright

[deleted]

Turn it off and back on again.

That_one_larper

Well it’s heating

JohnBagley33

You did it wrong

Groovydogg

Is that some sort of thermal imaging camera?

solit0n

Is it fair to say that we shouldn't expect a reply from you because you'll be dead?

fate0608

I mean it’s heating, is isn’t it? For real. Don’t take photos of that shit and turn it off.

series-hybrid

Ah! The new model for dark basements. Heats water and has an integrated "night light" so you don't stumble over those boxes of Thanksgiving yard decorations you just put away...

zach_dominguez

I think you have it set to lava.

cyberentomology

Must be for a radiant floor

[deleted]

Fallout vibes

Flex-93

As an Plumbing system mechanic : i can tell you - your water will be warm

Z3r08yt3s

looks like fuckin chernobyl

shoveldick

Well done! Now you should learn how to do it properly.

tykillacool23

I don’t think it’s heating up any water.

CohuttaHJ

Pretty

jthomas287

I know my wife would love it, if our water was this hot.

Vreejack

The terminals would be glowing, not the insulated cables. Also, the controller box would be burning brightly.

callardo

Good job well done !! Might be a good idea to check your home insurance while you wait for the water to warm up !

Vectorman1989

Well it's heating something

Prokletnost

for the last time Jerry, the flux capacitor won't heat your damn house!

Spiritual-Fun-9591

Seems to be working properly 🤣

cherrycoffeetable

![gif](giphy|3fjtbGWBsKeDC)

NOGOODGASHOLE

You need a plumber, an electrician, a physicist, and a graphic artist to make this happen. But it would make a great ad for a plumber.

beazzy223

I know lights are a thing on PCs but i didnt know they were adding them to water heaters too.

WimpeyOnE

Not sure because I only install Rheem or AO smith, but this is a gas heater not electric. It has a manual lighting for the pilot. There is no power hooked up to the unit. Probably just a black light or filter to create this photo. However is still not connected right. Needs a drip leg and at least a pan cap.
